Paranoid Boss Always Wants to Possess Me CHAPTER 99

Chapter 99: I Like You So Much

Chen Jiamu happily arranged his tickets on his phone. By the time he finished, it was already dark.

Chen Cheng and Bai Jing walked out of the factory chatting and laughing. Bai Jing drove on the way back. He had originally said he would take Chen Cheng home, but she mentioned she still had things to pick up at the office.

Thus, Bai Jing drove her to the company entrance. Just as she got out of the car, Chen Cheng spotted a familiar figure.

Their eyes met, and Chen Cheng saw the sadness in An Yiyi’s gaze.

Sadness?

What is An Yiyi sad about?

An Yiyi didn’t know why she was standing downstairs at Chen Cheng’s company, unable to leave. She had been standing there for an hour until her calves felt sore. Her eyes were dry and parched. She was just about to sluggishly call a driver to pick her up.

But she hadn’t expected that as she turned around, she would see Chen Cheng getting out of a car. And sitting in that car was the boy she had seen at the cinema last time…

Didn’t the people at the office say she went to inspect a factory? Why was she with that boy?

“Sister…”

Before An Yiyi could finish her sentence, Chen Cheng walked toward her. The man in the car followed her out. “Yiyi, what are you doing here?”

An Yiyi bit her lip, refusing to let a single shred of emotion show. She forced a smile onto her face. “I just happened to be passing by while shopping. I thought Sister would be off work soon, so we could go buy clothes or something together.”

The late autumn wind carried a bone-chilling cold. An Yiyi’s hands had been exposed the whole time, and they were somewhat frozen. She stubbornly stuffed them into her pockets.

An Yiyi’s smile was extremely forced, and with the tears clinging to the corners of her eyes, she looked quite pitiful. The wind was a frigid chill, but no matter how cold it was, it couldn’t compare to her heart. If the temperature in Bei Cheng was ten degrees, then her heart was negative five…

The winter in Bei Cheng this year seemed exceptionally cold—so cold that her tears wouldn’t stop falling.

“It’s so cold today, even crying from the freeze.”

An Yiyi rarely engaged in self-mockery. The way she tried to lift the corners of her mouth made anyone who saw her feel a twinge of heartache.

“What’s wrong?”

“Did you have another fight with your family?”

Chen Cheng was as gentle as ever, her warm hand wiping the tears from the girl’s face. Her brows were knit with worry, but An Yiyi couldn’t see a single trace of the emotion she actually wanted in those eyes.

She didn’t want this kind of compassionate, elder-like gaze. She wanted the look of a lover pained for their beloved…

But no matter how she stared or how many tears fell, Chen Cheng’s gaze remained strictly that of an elder’s concern for a junior…

She had worked so hard for so long, months of effort, only to end up as the “distressed younger sister.”

“Mm…”

An Yiyi broke down. She threw herself into Chen Cheng’s embrace and began to wail uncontrollably, like a child who had suffered a great grievance. She buried herself in Chen Cheng’s arms and sobbed loudly. Chen Cheng’s brows furrowed tightly as she gently patted the girl’s back. “It’s normal to argue with parents. Just clear up the misunderstanding; don’t take it to heart.”

An Yiyi didn’t speak; she just clung to Chen Cheng and cried.

Bai Jing stood behind the two of them, remaining silent. Looking at An Yiyi, he felt a strange, indefinable sensation. Every time they met, her gaze toward him was filled with hostility.

Take the time at the cinema entrance, for example. That look was as if he had stolen something of hers.

It made him very uncomfortable.

When An Yiyi finished crying, her eyes were incredibly red, making her look quite pitiful.

“It’s better now that you’ve cried it out.”

“Don’t take it too much to heart.”

Chen Cheng patiently patted her back. She looked back and was surprised to see Bai Jing still standing there.

Checking the time, Chen Cheng sighed. She pressed down on An Yiyi’s shoulders and said softly, “Wait for me here. I’m going up to grab a laptop.”

“I’ll drive you back in a bit.”

“Sister, can I… not go back?”

An Yiyi stared straight at Chen Cheng, tears beginning to well up in her eyes again.

Being stared at like that, Chen Cheng seemed to sniff out an indescribable emotion. Dropping her gaze, Chen Cheng let go of her hands, her face still wearing a faint smile. “Be good.”

After Chen Cheng spoke, she turned and walked into the building, leaving An Yiyi and Bai Jing to stare at each other.

An Yiyi bit her lip, her eyes fixed on Bai Jing as if she were determined to stare a hole through him.

“Hello, I—”

Being stared at for so long, Bai Jing was about to introduce himself out of politeness, but An Yiyi turned her head away, completely unwilling to look at him.

Bai Jing was left utterly bewildered by her behavior. He didn’t understand why she harbored such great hostility toward him.

Did he look that ugly?

Bai Jing had originally wanted to see Chen Cheng home, but now that a “Cheng Yaojin” had intercepted them halfway, it would be a bit awkward if he stayed. He sent Chen Cheng a message and then got into his car and drove away.

By the time Chen Cheng came down, Bai Jing was gone. Only An Yiyi remained at the wide company entrance.

Looking at her stubborn posture, Chen Cheng sighed helplessly. She walked to her car, tossed the laptop inside, and called out to An Yiyi.

“Come on, get in. I’ll take you home.”

Chen Cheng urged her, but An Yiyi was a bit reluctant. She didn’t want to go back, but looking into Chen Cheng’s eyes, she could only compromise and sit in the passenger seat.

After getting in the car, An Yiyi wanted to say she wasn’t going back several times, but looking at Chen Cheng, she couldn’t bring herself to say it.

Chen Cheng had noticed An Yiyi’s hesitation from the moment she got in, but she didn’t call her out on it.

Instead, she continued to drive calmly. The car moved along the road, and the interior was deathly quiet.

Chen Cheng showed no reaction to this abnormal atmosphere. It wasn’t until they were almost at the An family’s front gate that An Yiyi finally gritted her teeth and called out, “Sister, I…”

Chen Cheng parked the car and turned to look at An Yiyi. “I know what you want to say.”

Chen Cheng’s words made An Yiyi’s heart skip a beat, and her palms began to sweat.

What does she know?

Does she know I like her?

“Not going back isn’t a solution. Your parents might be a bit strict, but they love you. No one in this world except your parents will dote on you unconditionally.”

“Perhaps the things they said these past few days made you very unhappy, but they did it for your own good.”

“Since Mom and Dad feel there is no future between you and the person you like, then listen to them and give him up. Don’t gamble on things that have no future.”

“The end for gamblers is never very good.”

Chen Cheng spoke earnestly, and An Yiyi’s heart sank to the bottom of an abyss.

Don’t gamble on things with no future…

Is there no future between her and me?

“Sister, I…”

An Yiyi subconsciously wanted to argue, but her mouth opened and closed without being able to voice a reason.

She could only sit in the car and stare blankly at Chen Cheng…

“Hmm?”

“What is it?”

Seeing that An Yiyi remained silent, Chen Cheng leaned in with concern. She stared closely at the girl’s face. An Yiyi seemed to reach some kind of resolution; she tilted her head up and quickly pressed a kiss onto Chen Cheng’s cheek.

“Sister, you’re so good.”

“I like you so much.”

Tears hung in An Yiyi’s eyes, making them appear sparkling bright. Chen Cheng was frozen in place by the gesture, her hand covering her cheek. Her gaze wavered for a fraction of a second, then she shrugged helplessly. “Alright, hurry up and go back.”

“It’s too late.”

Chen Cheng didn’t respond to her words; she only urged her to go back quickly. An Yiyi gave a bitter smile and finally got out of the car, looking back three times with every step.

After watching her walk inside, Chen Cheng stepped on the gas and drove away from the An gate with a vroom.

Her face revealed a trace of helpless and complex emotion…
