Paranoid Boss Always Wants to Possess Me CHAPTER 101

Chapter 101: Zhang Yongmei in Critical Condition

“Why didn’t you tell me you were coming?”

Just as Chen Jiamu sat down, Li Xi leaned in and handed him a glass of hot water.

Taking the water, Chen Jiamu took a small sip. The chill throughout his body dissipated quite a bit. Looking up at Li Xi, Chen Jiamu gave a “hehe” laugh. “Hehe, didn’t I want to give you a surprise?”

“Well? Are you surprised?”

Seeing his playful grin, Li Xi could only give a helpless, doting smile. Fearing the hot water might scald him, he took the glass from his hand and set it on the table.

He reached out to ruffle the hair at the crown of his head, his tone tender. “I’m very happy.”

“As long as it’s you, I’m happy.”

Li Xi’s bluntness made Chen Jiamu’s face burn. He patted his empty stomach and looked up pitifully. “I want to eat. I’m hungry.”

“Okay.”

Without a moment’s hesitation, Li Xi took Chen Jiamu out to eat.

That night, as they lay in bed, Li Xi looked at his injured left hand, hesitating with uncertainty.

“Is it okay?”

“Maybe we should wait until your hand is better…”

Before Li Xi could finish, Chen Jiamu interrupted him. “It’s fine.”

“Just be gentle.”

Chen Jiamu’s face was flushed red. As he stared at the ceiling above, his gaze gradually grew hazy.

Li Xi sighed and gave in helplessly. “Alright.”

The night was exceptionally gentle. Even though the wind and rain raged outside, the two inside were like water, incredibly tender.

Li Xi was unusually gentle tonight, and this consolation of love gave Chen Jiamu an entirely new experience.

Early the next morning, Chen Jiamu woke up. Watching Li Xi put on his clothes piece by piece, he had an indescribable feeling in his heart.

It was full and very comfortable.

“Should I go to your company to take a look?”

“It’s been so long since I’ve seen them. I wonder if they ‘miss’ me too?”

Li Xi had just finished dressing when he heard Chen Jiamu’s murmuring. After a moment of thought, he nodded. “Sure. You’d be bored staying at home anyway.”

“I’ll deal with yesterday’s files and then take you out to play.”

“It’ll only take about an hour.”

“Okay.”

The two were in agreement, and so Chen Jiamu followed Li Xi into the company just like that.

At the company entrance, Chen Jiamu drew many gazes, especially since their CEO was walking right beside him.

Everyone was whispering.

“Hey, isn’t that the Chen Jiamu who was fired before?”

“I don’t think so. He wasn’t fired.”

“I heard he suddenly disappeared…”

“Ah?”

“Then why is he back? And coming in with the boss?”

“A connected person?”

Faced with the mountain of gossip, Chen Jiamu ignored it all, walking with steady steps behind Li Xi.

Once they entered the elevator, Li Xi suddenly spoke. “Do you admit you’re a ‘connected’ person?”

“What’s wrong with having connections? Having connections and not using them is what’s stupid.”

Chen Jiamu didn’t feel much about the concept of connections anymore. Previously, he had hated it when people called him that.

After enduring a year of hard work at Jingyi, he realized his previous thoughts were too naive.

How many people wished they had connections to rely on? He used to turn his nose up at it.

Thinking back, he had been a bit too pretentious back then.

Li Xi let out a chuckle. As his laughter subsided, the elevator doors opened.

Arriving at the familiar Technology Department, Chen Jiamu saw familiar faces everywhere he looked.

Of course, Qian Chengfeng and Zhang Xin were not among them.

Once in the office, Chen Jiamu remembered the results of their situation.

“How did you deal with Qian Chengfeng and Zhang Xin?”

Li Xi sat down and opened his computer. Hearing Chen Jiamu’s question, he replied casually, “I fired them both.”

“I haven’t heard any news about Zhang Xin since she was fired.”

“On the other hand, Qian Chengfeng’s wife came to make a scene once, saying I shouldn’t have fired him…”

“Wow, she’s crazy.” Chen Jiamu frowned as he heard this.

“I thought so too. After I refused her demand, she started smashing up my office.”

“She’s currently sitting in the detention center. As for Qian Chengfeng, I don’t know.” The more Li Xi spoke, the more ridiculous Chen Jiamu found it. He shook his head and couldn’t help but sigh, “No wonder Qian Chengfeng cheated. With his wife’s ferocity, you’d get slapped twice just for showing up.”

“Jiamu, you’re wrong there.”

“Regardless of whether his wife is fierce or gentle, a man who cheats will cheat anyway.”

“You can’t push all the responsibility onto a housewife. Of course, if his wife truly is wicked and cruel, then that’s just Qian Chengfeng’s karma.”

Li Xi didn’t entirely agree with Chen Jiamu’s words. When he was a child, all the men who came to fool around with Zhang Yongmei had families. No matter how gentle and virtuous the wives at home were, those men cheated regardless.

Some people are just rotten to the core; they can never change.

It’s like a dog that can’t stop eating filth.

“Mm, you’re right. I was too hasty with my judgment.”

Chen Jiamu realized there was a flaw in his words. Scratching the back of his head, he found a place to sit down.

His workstation had been moved away. It had been over half a year since he left, and a large sofa had been placed in his original spot.

Scrolling through his phone, Chen Jiamu suddenly remembered Zhang Yongmei. Since that year, he hadn’t heard any news about her.

“But, speaking of which, after all these years, Zhang Yongmei shouldn’t be able to find you anymore, right?”

Chen Jiamu felt he shouldn’t ask too many questions, but for some reason, that bitter face of Zhang Yongmei surfaced in his mind.

At the sudden mention of Zhang Yongmei, Li Xi froze for a second, his gaze subconsciously shifting to his phone.

After a moment of hesitation, he said, “Not exactly.”

“Li Ru sent me a message saying she’s about to pass away and asked me to go see her.”

“But I ignored him and didn’t reply.”

“Ah?”

“Is that true?”

Chen Jiamu was shocked. Zhang Yongmei was dying?

Was it divine retribution?

“I don’t know if it’s true, but I won’t go.”

He didn’t want to see that face of hers; just looking at it made him feel uncomfortable all over.

“It’s better not to go.”

“Even if she has a terminal illness, she deserves it.”

The speaker meant little, but the listener took it to heart. Li Xi let out a slight sigh and went back to work.

Li Xi worked quickly. When he said an hour, it really was an hour.

Seeing Li Xi packing up, Chen Jiamu went out to use the restroom.

On his way, he ran into an old acquaintance.

“Chen Jiamu?”

Chen Jiamu looked up to see a large, fatty face—it was actually Li Kui…

“You’re actually still coming to Jingyi?”

Li Kui was shocked to see Chen Jiamu, thinking he had returned to work.

“If you are here, why shouldn’t I be?”

“So, how does it feel now that your backer has collapsed?”

Seeing Li Kui again, Chen Jiamu wasn’t going to be polite. His words were laced with hidden needles.

Li Kui’s face stiffened. He awkwardly rubbed his nose, his eyes darting around as he quickly changed the subject. “How long do you plan to work here this time?”

“Who told you I was here to work?”

“I’m different from you. You work, but I’m here to play.”

Remembering what the man had done to him before, Chen Jiamu felt a wave of nausea.

But since it was all harmless in the end, Chen Jiamu couldn’t be bothered to argue with him.

He preferred “out of sight, out of mind.”

After finishing up, Chen Jiamu returned to the office. As expected, Li Xi was already standing at the door waiting for him.

Seeing him, he immediately stepped forward. “Let’s go.”

“Okay.”
