Part 3
“The illegitimate son Yu Yao raised in luxury was diagnosed with kidney failure at age four. When a match was found, you showed a sliver of hypocritical fatherly love just to get a transplant. Afterward, even when the servants ignored the only surviving child until he died of illness, you never visited him once.”
“The healthy child died on the operating table, and the child with congenital defects died in a foreign land. Did you ever consider that they were only four and five years old when they died?!”
“I thought you were just greedy and power-hungry, but I didn’t expect you to be so… no, you aren’t mad. You’re a cold-blooded beast!”
Lu Xunye watched as Shen Qizhao’s face grew paler with every word Su Zhuo spoke, eventually turning a flushed red down to his neck.
He thought to himself: Shen Qizhao was already superstitious; no wonder he was so afraid when he heard two ‘little ghosts’ were clinging to his back.
It didn’t seem surprising that a scammer posing as a Feng Shui master could trick him out of money to “change his luck.”
By comparison, Yu Yao’s shock seemed more like concern for Shen Qizhao’s mental state. After all, seeing someone suddenly have an episode and start screaming in front of you would be quite startling. Or perhaps there were other secrets no one knew.
Su Zhuo clearly knew about this and had specifically gone to the abandoned Shen mansion to dig up a skull. It couldn’t be that the skull and the blood jade belonged to the one who died on the operating table after knowing the truth, could it?
[Hidden Plot “Where the Butterfly’s Tears Reside” successfully unlocked.]
In the empty underground garage, a crisp, echoing sound rang out as the angry words faded.
The leather envelope hit the ground first, followed by pages filled with dense black text sliding out past Shen Qizhao’s side.
Lu Xunye hadn’t recovered from the shock of the mission being solved so easily. He felt something was still off, but before he could think, a sudden loud noise made his shoulders jump.
Unlike his initial certainty, when some of the seemingly ordinary documents landed by his feet, the disdain Shen Qizhao had buried in his heart was shattered by Su Zhuo’s words.
Now, with a casual glance down, that disdain turned into total horror. It was like a blade of wind cutting into his heart, leaving it bloodied.
This reaction was too extreme; Lu Xunye naturally noticed something was wrong.
If he were standing closer, he would have seen that the documents and photos weren’t evidence of infidelity at all.
Instead, they were evidence of how he had bribed the Shen family driver to conspire with a rival company to murder the Shen couple, as well as evidence of the illegal grey industries he had been involved in over the years.
Every single item was enough to net him decades in prison.
Seeing things were going south, Shen Qizhao struggled wildly. In the chaos, he actually broke free and tried to run for the exit.
Seeing the two bodyguards just standing there, Lu Xunye was about to act when he felt a hand on his arm.
He instinctively looked at Su Zhuo, who was perfectly calm, as if he were just letting the man go.
It was hard to understand the man’s intent after going through so much trouble to bring him here.
But just as he thought Shen Qizhao would escape, the next second, a group of people in police uniforms stepped out from behind the pillars near the exit, walking against the light.
In the blink of an eye, cold handcuffs were snapped onto Shen Qizhao’s wrists. The sirens that had been silent at the exit suddenly wailed, echoing through the cavernous space.
“After investigation, you are suspected of illegal activities. Please come with us.”
“You can’t arrest me! This is a setup!!!”
Ignoring Shen Qizhao’s screams, once he was restrained, the lead detective gave Su Zhuo a salute.
“That’s it then, Mr. Su. Thank you for the evidence you provided. If you have time, would it be convenient for you to come back with us to give a statement?”
Su Zhuo agreed. “Of course. Please wait a moment, I’ll be right there.”
the detective expressed his understanding, exchanged a few pleasantries, and left with the police cars.
Watching the group leave, Lu Xunye stepped forward and picked up the papers.
Seeing the words on them, his eyes filled with surprise. He met Su Zhuo’s gaze with an interrogative look. “You planned this?”
Su Zhuo gave a half-smile.
Lu Xunye: “?”
Before Lu Xunye could ask what that meant, Su Zhuo interrupted him. “Let’s go. I’ll take you to find Shen Yunqian.”
“You know where Shen Yunqian is?!” Lu Xunye said in shock.
“Oh, Si Jinyan took him. You said he was safe, so I thought you knew.”
I didn’t know! The System said that!!!
The drowsy System was jolted awake by the sound of someone tapping on the car. It almost slipped off the car, flailing its limbs to steady itself.
When it looked up, it was met with Lu Xunye’s glaring gaze. “…”
The meaning was clear, but the System truly didn’t know what had happened earlier. Its intuition told it it wasn’t good news.
Suppressing a surge of guilt, it asked stutteringly, “Wh-what’s wrong?”
Lu Xunye knew that both he and the System were “useless” when it came to tracking the plot. After all, they were the main characters—who could control their reunions and separations?
He stared at the System’s upgraded electronic face, which now had more than just emojis. It looked as clueless as an idiot. He gave a snort and forced out a sentence: “Nothing. Go back to sleep.”
After calming down, Lu Xunye realized Su Zhuo had been teasing him earlier.
The System, forced to wake up only to be told to sleep again, was equally speechless.
Aside from that, everyone’s expressions turned strange after seeing Lu Xunye behaving oddly and talking to thin air.
…
On the way back, Lu Xunye finally couldn’t help but ask, “When we were in the garage, what did you throw out of the car?”
After a long silence, he saw Su Zhuo’s pressed lips move in the rearview mirror. “Nothing. Just a piece of trash. Someone will need it.”
Si Family Residence
The two of them entered through the front gates with ease. Everything was completely clear, which naturally made Lu Xunye suspicious.
Such a large mansion, where every plant and pavilion was meticulously maintained… Even if the gate was unlocked, how could there not be a single soul in sight? Perhaps because he’d been through too many kidnappings lately, he couldn’t help but think along those lines.
He stopped before reaching the steps, looking at the tall back of the man who had already reached the second step. “Don’t you think something is wrong?”
Su Zhuo clearly felt the same. Hearing the question, he frowned.
Lu Xunye saw the other man’s body stiffen, and an ill omen immediately surfaced in his mind. He reflexively reached out to grab the man to stop him.
At the same time, Su Zhuo took two steps at a time to the front door.
Just as Lu Xunye’s hand missed, he heard the heavy aluminum door being kicked open by Su Zhuo.
Boom! The loud crash made Lu Xunye’s ears ring. He sheepishly retracted his hand and followed him inside.
The hall was empty, though the chandelier above was lit.
“Si Jinyan! Get the hell out here!” Su Zhuo roared.
He scanned the surroundings but saw no one, then turned and sprinted upstairs.
“Hey?” Lu Xunye had never been here. Feeling disoriented, he could only follow. “Are you sure your information isn’t wrong? I don’t think he’s here.”
Su Zhuo had no time for nonsense and disappeared around the corner of the stairs. Lu Xunye asked the System, “Where exactly is Shen Yunqian? Haven’t you upgraded?”
[I can’t pinpoint him. The signal is weak. I only know he isn’t in any life-threatening danger.] The System was very confused by the result.
[Unless the plot has deviated, or someone outside the plot made a move that went against their settings, affecting the judgment on the target character. But that’s nearly impossible.]
That was what it said, but the System didn’t know if the Host believed it. There was no other explanation right now. It couldn’t help but wonder if there was another bug in its programming.
It was always like this—saying it was impossible for characters to break their settings while simultaneously pushing him to pursue Shen Yunqian. Wasn’t that a contradiction?
Lu Xunye looked at the countdown to leaving the world, which only had twelve minutes left. Since the mission hadn’t been completed, why was this thing appearing?
But what if it was real?
Shen Yunqian…
