Chapter 105: Why Did You Have to Look?!
Cheng Ge hugged the toilet and vomited everything up, yet that feeling of nausea in his stomach remained intense.
Wen Lingās nightmares always had a trigger, Cheng Ge kept thinking.
His mind was in chaos. The disgust brought by the dream just now kept interfering with his thoughts. He seemed to have been pulled out of the dream this time by his own vomiting reaction.
That kind of dream… so it wasn’t that girl, or rather, it wasn’t just because of that girl.
It was those rumorsāthose overwhelming sexual rumors.
Even though those comments and posts had been deleted, it didn’t mean Wen Ling hadn’t seen them… most importantly, Cheng Ge had seen them all.
Cheng Geās stomach churned again, and he vomited once more. Only then did he stagger to his feet, walk to the sink, turn on the faucet, and use cold water to splash his face and rinse his mouth.
Perhaps these rumors originally wouldn’t have had much impact on Wen Ling; he never cared about that. But as it happened, all those rumors had been seen by Cheng Ge. One or two would have been fine, but because Cheng Ge had to deal with those idiots, he had seen them all.
And as it happened, Wen Ling only cared about Cheng Ge and his opinions. Thus, an impact had been generated indirectly.
Cheng Ge thought that keeping Wen Ling away from those things was the best way to protect him, but he hadn’t expected it to turn out like this.
Those sexual rumors were told as if they were true. Anyone who didn’t know Wen Ling would have believed them.
Cheng Ge thought about it from another perspective. If he were being overwhelmed by rumors that were well-reasoned and seemed truer than gold, and they were all seen by Wen Ling, he wasn’t sure if heād be afraid, but he would definitely be sad and distressed.
Who would be willing? To have the person they like most in the world see those things, especially since Wen Ling had gone through those experiences as a child.
No wonder. No wonder Wen Ling wanted to tell him that his sexual orientation wasn’t toward girls.
At that time, the people spreading rumors didn’t know Wen Lingās sexual orientation. They only knew he had secretly taken photos of a girl, so they used women to spread rumors. Many of those who posted self-proclaimed accounts were even men posing as women, stirring up trouble from both sides.
Every single one of them was insane.
The reason Wen Ling told Cheng Ge these things might be because he felt he needed to let go, or it might be because he was overly worried.
Cheng Ge thought it was likely the latter; otherwise, he wouldn’t have had that kind of nightmare.
Cheng Ge used his cold hands to slap his face hard to make himself calm down. What he should do most now was go and hug Wen Ling, and that was also the only thing he wanted to do.
Cheng Geās head was slightly lowered as he walked out of the bathroom, but his footsteps suddenly jerked to a halt. His gaze was completely pinned to that pair of feet wearing black slippers.
For several seconds, his gaze traveled upward. Cheng Ge looked at Wen Lingāat that expressionless face.
No, there was sadness and… fear hidden in Wen Lingās eyes.
But that shouldn’t be. The perceptions in Wen Lingās dream had clearly all transferred to him; how could Wen Ling still be sad and afraid?
“Xiao Wen,” Cheng Ge called out Wen Lingās name in a soft voice. He walked over to hug Wen Ling. “Why are you awake? Did I wake you? I’m sorry.”
“Cheng Ge…” Wen Ling hugged Cheng Ge back, his voice very muffled and carrying a tremor. “Why are you saying sorry?”
There was a hint of helplessness on Cheng Geās face. “I… I woke you up.”
Wen Ling suddenly took a step back. He raised his hand, wanting to touch the corner of Cheng Geās eye, but in the end, he didn’t. “Cheng Geās eyes are a bit red.”
“I… itās because I’m a bit sleepy. Itās from yawning. Are you sleepy? Letās sleep together.” Cheng Ge wanted to hug Wen Ling again.
At this moment, he felt a sense of unease for no reasonāa strong one.
Wen Ling took another step back, his voice trembling: “Cheng Ge… can you… can you see my… my dreams?”
Cheng Geās heart seemed to stop for a long time. His pupils suddenly dilated, and his throat felt as if it were blocked by a stone; he couldn’t speak.
“I… I…”
How did Wen Ling know? How did things turn out like this?
Cheng Ge had no way to lie to Wen Ling, yet he also understood that no one would be willing to let the person they liked see such a past. It was very, very hard to face.
Especially for Wen Ling.
Cheng Ge understood Wen Ling, but Wen Ling understood him just as well. If Cheng Ge couldn’t answer, then it meant he could see.
Wen Lingās face was terrifyingly pale. His entire being rapidly withered. His already thin legs could no longer bear the weight of his entire body, and he nearly fell to the floor.
Cheng Ge supported Wen Ling, wanting to hold him tight, but Wen Ling kept struggling.
It was a true struggleāa life-and-death struggleānot like their usual minor bickering or pouting.
“So disgusting!”
“Itās so disgusting! Why did you have to look?!”
Wen Ling was practically screaming.
Cheng Ge also panicked. It would have been fine for Wen Ling to notice any other time, but not this time. To have the person you like know these things was simply too devastating.
“No, the disgusting ones are them, not you,” Cheng Ge gripped Wen Lingās hand. “I’m sorry, Wen Ling. I didn’t… didn’t…”
Could he say it wasn’t intentional? What use was it even if it was unintentional? The person had already broken down.
“Didn’t you vomit? Itās so disgusting, so dirty! How could you look?!”
Wen Ling cried until he couldn’t catch his breath. He refused hugs and kisses. Only then did Cheng Ge realize that Wen Lingās strength when struggling could be this great.
“No, Wen Ling, itās not like that!” Cheng Ge completely hadn’t expected Wen Ling to think this way. He vomited only because of that woman and because Wen Lingās feelings had transferred to his body; it wasn’t because of anything else at all. “You are the cleanest baby. You aren’t dirty.”
“You’re lying! You clearly vomited!”
Wen Ling couldn’t take it anymore. Why? Why could those dark and disgusting things have remained buried deep in his heart forever, eventually taken to the grave and kept in the dark? Why did Cheng Ge have to see them?!
Blackness was clearly meant to be kept away from the light.
Wen Ling suddenly pushed Cheng Ge away, ducked into the bathroom, locked the door, and huddled in the corner, trembling.
Bang bang bang!
Cheng Ge hammered on the door with a loud noise. The entire door was shaking as if it were about to fall.
“Wen Ling, open the door! Don’t be like this! Those reactions weren’t because of you! I like you most; Iāve said it!”
“Get away! I hate you! You clearly found it disgustingāso disgusting you wanted to vomit! You liar!” Wen Ling screamed as he cried, his voice carrying extreme sorrow and extreme despair.
“I didn’t lie to you! Don’t think that way! Open the door! Wen Ling!” Cheng Ge truly panicked. In this situation, he absolutely could not let Wen Ling be alone.
Perhaps other peopleās way of calming down was to be alone, but letting the current Wen Ling be alone was no different from letting him commit suicide.
Bang bang bang!
“If you don’t open the door, I’m going to smash it, Wen Ling!”
The bathroom was quiet for several seconds. Cheng Ge suddenly heard Wen Ling say: “Then just smash me to death.”
His tone wasn’t as agitated as before; it was very stubborn and very serious.
Cheng Ge was instantly stunned, his hands not daring to move.
Wen Lingās mind could no longer think. At one moment it was the scenes from the dream, and at another it was the back of Cheng Ge hugging the toilet and vomiting.
Why? Why could Cheng Ge see? Anyone could see, so why did it have to be Cheng Ge?!
Disgusting! It was dirty to death…
Wen Ling was so despairing he couldn’t catch his breath, and his consciousness became chaotic. Amidst his daze, he suddenly heard a cry of pain from Cheng Ge outside, followed by the sound of a person falling to the ground. The door was hit by some object, making a dull thud.
Wen Lingās numb eyes slowly turned toward the bathroom door. His heart was suddenly pierced with pain, as if history were repeating itself. Wen Ling instantly lost his composure.
“Cheng Ge?”
“Cheng Ge?”
“Cheng Ge…”
No one responded to him anymore.
Wen Ling staggered to his feet. He paused for a very brief moment when opening the door, but in the end, he opened it anyway.
Then he saw Cheng Ge lying weakly on the floor with his eyes closed. There was no color in his face, his forehead was covered in sweat, and he was as quiet as if he were dead.
“…Cheng Ge.”
“Cheng Ge?”
Wen Ling was far too afraid of such a scene. He had no idea what had happened. Back then, because of the little bird, he had strangled Cheng Geās neck, and Cheng Ge had been like this tooāsuddenly not moving.
This time, his complexion was even worse, and his expression was also very pained.
“Cheng Ge…” Wen Ling knelt on the floor and shook Cheng Ge, afraid that if he used too little strength he wouldn’t wake him, yet afraid that if he used too much strength he would break him.
“Cheng Ge… Gege, you said… you said you would protect me…”
Before Wen Lingās words had even finished, his waist was suddenly encircled. His body tilted, and he stumbled into a firm embrace. Cheng Ge suddenly flipped over, pinning Wen Ling beneath him.
In an instant, Wen Ling was held by Cheng Ge, held incredibly tight.
Wen Lingās wide-open eyes blinked, and then he began to struggle violently again.
“You lied to me! You lied to me again! How could you do this?! I hate you!” Wen Ling cried, breaking down.
Cheng Ge bit his pale lips, not saying a single word. He just kept holding Wen Ling, using all the strength in his body.
Wen Ling would have gone wild for a long time, originally. That is, if he hadn’t heard the suppressed, pained sobs coming from above his head.
Wen Ling froze and let go with his mouth. He became quiet, but Cheng Geās suppressed sobs couldn’t stop. The crying was very quiet, but it was still clearly audible in such a silent environment.
Cheng Ge had never cried before. At most, his eyes would turn red.
