Chapter 77: Special Plane
Fu Xingjian had intentionally let Wen Yuhuai leave. Otherwise, without his permission, Wen Yuhuai wouldn’t even have been able to get out of Beijing.
That night on the rooftop had scared him so much his soul nearly took flight. His A-Yu would rather use death to threaten him than stay by his side.
He granted him his wish and gave him freedom. He didn’t even send anyone to follow him or track his location, because he was afraid he wouldn’t be able to control himself. He was afraid he would appear by his side again before he had calmed down and do something irrational.
If the Wen family hadn’t called today, he might not even have thought about looking for him yet.
But today was Chuxi. On such a day for family reunions, he couldn’t help but want to see him. Just one look would be enough, so he had someone check his movements.
And look at what he saw.
He gave him freedom, and Wen Yuhuai used that freedom to nestle beside another man.
A man who harbored the same indecent intentions toward him.
“President Fu, should we continue following them?”
Fu Xingjian’s hand tightened around his phone. The emotions in his heart escalated from ripples to waves, and then to a towering tsunami.
“Follow them. Be careful. Don’t let them find out.”
After hanging up, Fu Xingjian quickly dialed another number. While waiting for the call to connect, he checked the time: 9:20 PM.
Fu Xingjian took a deep breath. The veins on the back of his hand bulged slightly, and his downcast eyes were calm to the point of being bone-chilling.
Two and a half hours. That was enough.
The call connected, and a voice soon came through, sounding somewhat surprised. “Xingjian? Why are you calling me at this time instead of being home for the reunion?”
Fu Xingjian’s tone was neither fast nor slow, like a casual chat. “I’m just calling to give you New Year’s greetings.”
The other side laughed and scolded him. “New Year’s greetings should wait until tomorrow morning. What kind of greetings are these? I know you, kid. You don’t visit the temple unless you have a request. Speak up, what is it?”
Fu Xingjian stopped beating around the bush. His tone became more serious. “Uncle, I have an urgent matter that requires me to go to Haishi.”
The other side seemed to understand his meaning and let out a long “Oh.” However, he was still a bit puzzled. “It’s the New Year. What urgent matter has to be handled today?”
Fu Xingjian gave a very light laugh. “A personal matter. It is indeed quite urgent. Uncle also knows that the situation has been special lately with strict airspace control. Private planes aren’t allowed to take off. Please pull some strings and arrange a special plane for me.”
The other side agreed. “Fine, fine. If you have an urgent matter, I won’t waste your time. I’ll make the arrangements now. Wait for it. In about half an hour, a helicopter will arrive at the rooftop of the Fu Group.”
“Thank you, Uncle.”
Today was New Year’s Eve. Some people stayed home to watch the Spring Festival Gala, while others were at the plazas watching fireworks. There weren’t many cars on the road. Fu Xingjian drove fast all the way to the company. By the time he arrived, he could already see a dark shadow circling overhead, seemingly looking for a spot to descend. The sound of the rotors was close to his ears.
Fu Xingjian’s hand on the steering wheel tightened and then loosened. He calmly drove into the underground parking garage.
The numbers on the elevator changed rapidly. Soon, it stopped steadily at the top floor.
Fu Xingjian stepped out of the elevator, pushed open the fire escape door, and walked up the last flight of stairs to the roof. The helicopter had already landed smoothly.
The cabin door opened, and Fu Xingjian boarded with a normal expression, speaking politely to the pilot. “Sorry for the trouble.”
The pilot’s attitude was very respectful. “Don’t mention it, sir. It’s all part of my duty.”
Fu Xingjian checked his watch again. It was exactly 10:00 PM. Flying from Beijing to Haishi would take about two hours. If the journey was smooth, he could still make it there to spend the New Year with them.
Thinking of what might happen next, a determined, “must-obtain” smile finally appeared on Fu Xingjian’s face, hidden in the shadows.
Winter in Haishi was not as cold as in Beijing, but the night wind was still fierce. Wen Yuhuai had only worn an overcoat. After two hours, he was chilled from head to toe, and his tipsy feeling had completely vanished.
He breathed into his palms, unable to stand the cold. The next second, his hands, which were as cold as ice, were taken into someone else’s hands.
“Why didn’t you say so earlier if you were cold? Let’s go home.”
Wen Yuhuai looked at the time on the plaza’s big screen but remained standing still. He pulled his hands back and rubbed them. “I’m not going. Spending the New Year at home is boring. I’m spending it here today.”
Lin Shiyu took off his own overcoat and draped it over Wen Yuhuai’s shoulders, adopting a tone of indulgence. “Fine, we won’t go home. We’ll spend it here.”
Having taken off his coat, Lin Shiyu was left in only a black turtleneck sweater. Recalling a previous lesson, Wen Yuhuai didn’t hesitate to take off the coat and give it back. He said rather rudely, “Put it on yourself. I don’t want to spend the New Year taking care of a sick person.”
Lin Shiyu raised his eyebrows. “I’m not that fragile, am I?”
Wen Yuhuai gave a disdainful “Tch.” “Who was the one who had a fever in the middle of the night last time? Put it on and stop looking for trouble.”
Lin Shiyu put it back on after all. Then he reached out and pulled the man into his arms, pulling the lapels of his coat open to wrap him inside. “It’s not cold this way.”
The feeling of his back pressing against a chest made Wen Yuhuai’s scalp tingle instantly. Immediately, unpleasant memories flooded back. His reaction was violent; he pushed Lin Shiyu away almost as a reflex and jumped two steps to the side to create distance, his face full of wariness. “What are you doing?”
Lin Shiyu staggered from the push. His gaze darkened slightly, but he still looked at Wen Yuhuai innocently. “Didn’t you say you were cold? If two people hug, it won’t be cold.”
Wen Yuhuai got goosebumps all over. While rubbing his arms, he said, “What kind of bullshit is that? If you want to hug someone, go find a girl. What’s there to hug with a big man like you?”
Lin Shiyu squinted at him for a while. His overcoat was slightly puffed up by the night wind, making him look dashing and unrestrained. He smiled nonchalantly, but his tone carried a strange meaning. “What, do you want to find a girlfriend here?”
Wen Yuhuai looked past him at the electronic screen. The countdown would begin soon. “I don’t have that thought for now, but I probably will in the future.”
The smile on Lin Shiyu’s face deepened, but it didn’t reach his eyes. “That’s good. Your parents would be very relieved to hear that.”
Wen Yuhuai gave another “Tch.” “Why would they care about that? My brother already has Xiao Chi. They have a grandson to hold. It doesn’t matter when I settle down.”
Lin Shiyu’s eyes crinkled. “Right. There’s already Xiao Chi.”
As they were talking, a sudden commotion broke out in a nearby open space on the plaza, as if people were being cleared away.
“Did something happen?”
Lin Shiyu had sharp eyes and saw a dark shadow in the sky nearby. “There’s a helicopter landing over there.”
As he spoke, he even let out a laugh, his tone slow and teasing. “To be able to mobilize a helicopter at this time… I wonder how much privilege was used. To go through such great trouble to come to Haishi… could it be to spend New Year’s Eve with a sweetheart?”
