The Straight Heartthrob: Ruthlessly Forced by a Madman Chapter 78-79

Chapter 78: Go Do Your Fucking Daydreaming

Wen Yuhuai looked up as well. Sure enough, the dark shadow was getting closer and closer, and the sound of the rotors was clearly audible.

For some reason, an ominous feeling began to stir in his heart, and his eyelid wouldn’t stop twitching.

The crowd was pushed toward their direction, making it suddenly crowded. Wen Yuhuai glanced at the big screen: 11:58 PM.

“We’ll leave as soon as the countdown is over.”

There were only two minutes left. Leaving now would feel like a waste, and surely nothing could happen in just two minutes.

Lin Shiyu stood tall beside him. “Okay.”

The helicopter finally landed slowly on the ground. It seemed like some personnel went over to meet it. Wen Yuhuai took a cursory glance in that direction before looking back at the countdown.

However, he soon noticed something unusual. A shadow had appeared over his own at some point and had been stationary beside him for a while.

After a few seconds of silence, Wen Yuhuai turned his head with a slight delay. But before he could see who it was, his arm was suddenly grabbed. Lin Shiyu had moved in front of him at some point, staring darkly at the person who absolutely should not have been here.

He greeted the newcomer casually, a smile even playing on his lips. “Xingjian, what brings you to Haishi?”

Fu Xingjian smiled back, his gaze fixed directly behind Lin Shiyu, on the pale profile of the face there. “To spend the New Year with you all.”

Lin Shiyu protected the person behind him, subtly backing away. “Was that helicopter just now yours? Figures. Only you have that kind of privilege. But to go through such trouble… it’s not just to spend the New Year with us, is it?”

As he retreated, Fu Xingjian advanced. His dark eyes narrowed slightly. He remained slow and methodical, but his voice was hoarse and deep. “A-Yu, it’s been so long. Aren’t you going to say hello?”

Wen Yuhuai knew he couldn’t hide. He took a deep breath and stepped out from behind Lin Shiyu with a calm expression. He looked directly into those eyes that were suppressing a storm of emotion. “Fu Xingjian.”

He had anticipated this situation as soon as he made that call this morning. He had just been clinging to a glimmer of hope, thinking that after so much time, their interest in him might have faded. He didn’t think they would personally come to catch him, especially in such a grand manner.

Fu Xingjian smiled again, but it quickly faded. “What, you won’t even call me ‘Brother’ anymore?”

Wen Yuhuai’s lips curled into a mocking smile. He used Fu Xingjian’s own words against him. “Didn’t you say it yourself? You didn’t treat me well all these years just to be my brother. So why should I call you that?”

Fu Xingjian followed his lead and nodded. “You still remember what I said after all this time. Good memory. You deserve praise. So—”

His tone suddenly shifted. “By not calling me brother, does that mean you’re prepared to stay by my side in a different capacity?”

Wen Yuhuai adopted a fearless posture, his hands lazily tucked in his pockets. His somewhat long hair blew in the wind, making his handsome face look even more striking. He let out a cold, contemptuous laugh. “Go do your fucking daydreaming.”

No matter how hard Fu Xingjian tried to stay calm, his expression still changed uncontrollably upon hearing that. He raised a hand to pinch the bridge of his nose and let out a long, heavy breath, his Adam’s apple bobbing with difficulty.

Chapter 79: Breaking into a Fight

Lin Shiyu had anticipated this. He tilted his head to dodge the punch and, with a expressionless face, raised his own fist to strike back. The two men, of similar build, were soon locked in a brawl.

Fists hit flesh with dull, sickening thuds that would make anyone wince, but Wen Yuhuai just stood there silently watching. His face was calm, but a tsunami was raging in his heart. His hands, tucked in his pockets, were clenched into tight fists.

If he were a woman, two men fighting over him might be called a “femme fatale” situation, but what was this?

Fair competition? Competing for what? Him?

Was he some kind of object that they could just fight over and take?

Lin Shiyu… he had thought he was different. Had he also harbored those unspeakable thoughts all along?

The overcoat on his shoulders was still dutifully blocking the biting wind, but he suddenly reached up and, with a cold expression, flung it off. He let the cashmere coat fall into the dust, then turned and walked toward the car without hesitation—toward the driver’s seat.

He didn’t care that he had been drinking. He stepped into the car, not giving the two men another glance. He floored the accelerator and sped away right in front of them.

The two men, still locked in a stalemate, froze for a moment. They both turned to look, but Wen Yuhuai had already driven far away.

The car was extremely fast. In the blink of an eye, only the two dim red points of the taillights remained in their sight.

Taking advantage of the moment of distraction, Fu Xingjian landed a kick on Lin Shiyu’s chest, sending him stumbling back several meters.

However, Lin Shiyu didn’t think about retaliating. He scrambled to find the overcoat that had been thrown on the ground; his phone was in the pocket.

“A-Yu drank some wine tonight. It’s too dangerous for him to drive in that state. Something will happen.”

Fu Xingjian’s expression darkened further. He whipped out his phone and made a call. “Outer ring road. A black Continental. Track its movements and ensure the safety of the person inside. See where he ends up and call me back immediately.”

Lin Shiyu also made a call. The car was his, and he had been in Haishi for a long time; he had more resources here than the newly arrived Fu Xingjian.

“Outer ring road, heading toward the Cross-River Bridge. A pure black Continental, matching license plate. Call me when you see it. The person inside has had some alcohol. It’s best if you can intercept the car, but don’t force it. Just follow him and keep a close eye. Don’t let anything happen to him.”

The calls ended almost simultaneously. Two pairs of eyes, swirling with emotion, met again. The ruthlessness flickering within them suggested they both wanted to tear the other to shreds.

Fu Xingjian was naturally full of hatred. The person he had longed for for so long, whom he had used every means to keep but failed, avoided him like a venomous snake or a wild beast, yet was here entangled with another man.

Lin Shiyu also felt hatred. He hated that he hadn’t made his move sooner despite being close, he hated them for their forceful tactics, and he hated that their dishonorable methods had forced the man to leave everything behind. And now, they actually had the nerve to come here.

The cars coming to pick them up would take a while. It was unclear who threw the first punch, but under the pale streetlights, the two tall figures soon began brawling again.

Wen Yuhuai felt as if a fire was burning in his chest, so hot that his rationality was on the verge of collapsing. A crazy thought even surfaced in his mind: Who gives a damn? Let me just die and be done with it. Maybe I can return to my original world.

He rolled down the window halfway, letting the cold wind howl in. Gradually, his mind began to clear.

He wasn’t the one who had done anything wrong. Being liked wasn’t his fault. Why should he use a method that “hurts the enemy by eight hundred but himself by ten thousand” to torture himself?

The car’s speed gradually slowed down. He finally noticed the little “tails” behind him—several cars, following him at a distance that was neither too close nor too far, as if terrified he would crash.

He didn’t need to guess to know who sent them. Wen Yuhuai just let out a cold sneer and tightened his grip on the steering wheel, continuing to drive at a steady pace.

His driving skills were quite good; he used to race. If he hadn’t been drinking and feeling so emotional, he could have led them on a wild goose chase until they dropped.

It was now after midnight. Even with people staying up for the New Year, there weren’t many people on the streets. Wen Yuhuai didn’t want to go back, so he continued to cruise aimlessly through the streets. He didn’t know how long he had been driving when two cars finally couldn’t hold back anymore; they accelerated, cut him off, and forced him to stop.

Wen Yuhuai indifferently pulled over. He pressed a button on the center console, and the windows rolled up tightly, concealing his cooling expression.

Fu Xingjian and Lin Shiyu stepped out of those two cars. Both of them had bruised faces and staggered slightly; they looked incredibly wretched.

During the fight earlier, the heat of the moment had clouded Lin Shiyu’s mind. Only now did he realize he had said something he shouldn’t have. At the worst possible time, he had failed to hide his feelings and let Wen Yuhuai know about his intentions.

He could imagine that his image in Wen Yuhuai’s heart wouldn’t be much better than those other two now.

Lin Shiyu took a deep breath. Finally, he tapped gently on the car window and leaned down to look at the person inside. “A-Yu, let’s go home and talk. I can explain.”

Wen Yuhuai’s fingers rested carelessly on the steering wheel. He kept his gaze down, not looking out the window once.

Explain? What was there to explain about something like this?

Was he going to say he didn’t like him and that he only said it to provoke Fu Xingjian?

No one would believe that.

Before, Wen Yuhuai always thought about running away, hiding for a few years until their interest faded.

But now he understood. Running was useless.

He was only in his twenties, and he had a long life ahead of him. If they never let go and never gave up, was he supposed to live like a rat in the shadows forever just to avoid them?

He decisively pushed open the car door and stepped out. He leaned against the car body, took a pack of cigarettes and a lighter he had snatched from the car, and with slightly trembling hands, lit one for himself.

The scarlet glow of the ember was very prominent in the dark night. Wen Yuhuai took a deep drag with his eyes narrowed. The smoke curled around his face, blurring his handsome, sharp features.

The other two men couldn’t take their eyes off him. It wasn’t until he finished the cigarette and let out a cold “Are we going or not?” that they finally snapped out of it.

Wen Yuhuai randomly picked one of the cars and sat in the back. The other two were wise enough not to join him; they had the drivers take them while they went to the other car.

The night scenery flashed past the window. Half an hour later, the car stopped steadily in front of Lin Shiyu’s riverside villa.

Ignoring the people getting out of the car behind him, Wen Yuhuai was the first to get out. The facial recognition unlocked the door, and he walked inside smoothly.

The entire villa was brightly lit. Wen Yuhuai sat down on the sofa, his long legs unceremoniously propped up on the coffee table. He shot a side-glance at the two men who followed him in, lit another cigarette, and looked at them with a hazy, detached gaze through the smoke.

“Whatever else you have to say to me, say it all today.”
