Chapter 107: I Have Absolutely No Interest in the Position of Imperial Husband
This was already the third time.
The purification promises made when the original host was mistreating A-class Sentinels, the years of memories spent with the First Prince, and the words the host had spoken to Wanyan Jin as a child.
Was there a connection between them? And what role did Wanyan Jin play in all of this?
Furthermore, that mysterious person helping the female lead… could it be Wanyan Jin?
Would he be the next person involved in making the female antagonist lose her limbs, or even die?
Xie Qiang blinked her lashes gently and turned to give Emperor Xie a brilliant smile. “Father, Iāll listen to whatever you say.”
Sorry, Finance Minister Wanyan. For the sake of my own limbs, I can only keep you right under my nose.
Xie Qiang smiled and followed Emperor Xie toward the inner palace.
Seeing this, the noble officials standing behind them stepped forward one after another, each offering congratulations on the Princessās return. However, their scrutinizing gazes couldn’t help but fall upon Xie Qiang and the prospective Imperial Husbands following her.
Xie Qiang was very familiar with these kinds of looks.
When her adoptive father used to take her to the company, the people on the board of directors would use those same looks to size her up, judging whether she had the qualifications to inherit the company in the future. Among them, there were many with active minds, intending to curry favor with her privately.
It seemed these noble officials would soon be trying to win her over, just like the Star Lake Group that had sent medical supplies to the battlefield base.
She hoped they would send some interesting things to relieve her boredom~
The girl walked toward the inner palace with anticipation. Behind her, the young man with long, deep blue hair stared at her back with a cold, thin gaze. Behind his gold-rimmed lenses, his damp, snake-like pupils flickered with a hint of irritation.
How could she have agreed?
What kind of trick was she trying to play?
Hong Que passed by him, his gaze falling on his handsome but cold and gloomy features. He immediately let out a small “tsk.” “A few years without seeing you, and youāve grown even more like a girl.”
He remembered when they were children in the palace. Back then, Wanyan Jin, who was only three years older than him, looked like a porcelain doll that would shatter if you barely touched him.
This was also why, back then, even if Xie Qiang hated him, she only dared to insult him rather than treat him like a horse to ride, as she did when bullying Hong Que.
Hong Que had even been driven to tears over that.
Thinking about this porcelain doll now becoming a candidate for Imperial Husband, Hong Que simply couldn’t imagine how the changed Xie Qiang would dote on this “fragile snake.”
No! He had to find a chance to whisper in her ear and get Xie Qiang to eliminate Wanyan Jin as early as possible!
With that in mind, Hong Que quickly pulled Mo Yin to the side and began stealthily discussing how to kick out the other prospective Imperial Husbands.
Cang Jiu walked over, resting the back of his head on his arms. He lazily sized up Wanyan Jin from head to toe, then looked away with a smile. “Heās nothing special.”
Wanyan Jin was just beginning to frown at these people’s hostile attitudes when he saw Sen Ji walk up to him, his forest-green tiger eyes glaring askance.
His voice was deep, carrying a faint hint of hostility: “If you know what’s good for you, withdraw from the Imperial Husband trials yourself.”
Wanyan Jinās brow twitched slightly. His thin, cold gaze swept over Hong Que, Mo Yin, Cang Jiu, and Sen Ji. After a moment, a playful smile suddenly curved his lips. “It seems you all lack confidence in yourselves? But you can rest assuredāI have absolutely no interest in the position of Imperial Husband.”
Falling for a Guide who is naturally vicious and hides a knife behind her smile… don’t they find it disgusting?
He absolutely would not pass the Imperial Husband trials.
The man turned and walked away.
…
Xie Kong escorted Xie Qiang back to the Princess’s Palace. He intended to catch up with her, but the girl wore a weary expression. “Imperial Brother, Iām tired. I want to rest.”
“In that case, you should get some sleep. Iāll come find you again tomorrow.”
Xie Kong rubbed her head with a doting smile. He watched her enter the Princess’s Palace, and as he caught sight of Jiang Qingwan about to follow her in, his smile cooled slightly.
He reached out an arm to block her. “Guide Jiang, where are you going?”
Jiang Qingwanās pace faltered. She turned and offered a gentle smile. “First Highness, do you have business with me?”
“Of course. I wonder if Guide Jiang is willing to come to my palace for a chat?” Xie Kong said flatly.
“This…” Jiang Qingwan hesitated.
“What? Is Guide Jiang afraid that I might kill you?” Xie Kong suddenly smiled. “The tragic death of the Empireās former goddess in the First Prince’s palace… why would I allow such a thing to damage my reputation?”
Seeing she couldn’t refuse, Jiang Qingwan could only lower her gaze and reply, “Since that is the case, after you, Highness.”
Following Xie Kong to the First Princeās Palace and watching him dismiss the maids, Jiang Qingwan stood submissively by the sofa in the reception hall.
“Guide Jiang, don’t you owe me an explanation?” Xie Kong sat on the sofa, squinting at her with displeasure. “I sent you so many messages. Why didn’t you reply?”
Jiang Qingwan lowered her head. “My lightbrain was broken.”
“Broken? Couldn’t you buy another one?” Xie Kongās face darkened. “Aren’t there spare lightbrains in the combat zone shops!”
Jiang Qingwan lowered her head even further. “I had no money.”
“No money? How could youā” Xie Kong paused, surprised. “Wait, no money?”
He looked at Jiang Qingwan suspiciously. “Then what about your monthly salary? Your previous savings?”
Jiang Qingwanās head was almost buried in her collarbone. “I used it to aid Sentinels whose families were in difficulty.”
“You!” Xie Kong was practically laughing from anger. He knew Jiang Qingwan felt sorry for the treatment of low-level Sentinels, but he truly hadn’t expected her to go to such lengths!
“Setting aside the matter of the messages, did you not notice my Imperial Sister pushing for reforms?” Xie Kong questioned coldly. “How were you monitoring her? Such a big matter, and I only found out after Father approved her reform application!”
Jiang Qingwan pursed her lips.
She thought back to that blank purification form she had received from the B-class Sentinel. But the questions on that form were so fragmented, complicated, and strange that she hadn’t associated it with Guide reforms at the time.
Besides, even if she had noticed, what could she have done?
Facts had proven that the Princessās decision was correct.
She stiffened her neck and asked in return, “What exactly is the First Highness angry about? Didn’t the reform method the Princess came up with solve the issue of low-level Sentinels’ treatment quite well? And isn’t that what you sought!”
“But this honor should not have fallen on my Imperial Sisterās head!” Xie Kong couldn’t help but stand up and snap at her.
Jiang Qingwan raised her eyes, looking at Xie Kong with shock and disappointment. “What the First Highness wants… is it honor, or the improvement of Sentinels’ treatment!”
Realizing he had been too blunt, Xie Kong rubbed his brow and then put on a gentle smile. “Guide Jiang, Iāve said it before. My Imperial Sister loathes Sentinels so much; she is not fit to inherit the Empire. Therefore, this honor naturally cannot fall on her head and increase her competitiveness for the throne.”
