Chapter 29: Father Shen’s Plan (First Update)
Upon waking up, the cub had acquired another planet.
With one hand holding the milk bottle his eldest brother had shipped back from the border star, the cub swiped his other hand in mid-air.
A pink planet, shrunk to the size of a basketball, rotated slowly as the cub flicked it.
This was no insignificant asteroid, but a genuine primitive star inhabited by beastman races.
Planet N79, located at the 90° North Latitude ring of the Pegasus Star System in the Federation, orbited Pegasus Star every 360 days.
Diameter: 22,100 kilometers.
Gravity: 1.3 (Set with the Federation’s main star as the standard).
Two-thirds of the surface was covered by a pink ocean. The remaining third, besides lakes, forests, and deserts, was home to migrated beastman races.
The pink ocean was abundant in a type of flying fish with double wings.
The meat of the flying fish provided mild energy supplementation and was delicious.
Even with its high price, beastmen still bought it; the demand far exceeded the supply.
Planet N79 should be one of Father Shen’s few sources of income.
Father Shen usually lived frugally; all his income went toward helping the families of fallen soldiers and disabled veterans. His pockets were cleaner than his face.
He was the poorest member of the family.
Despite this, he still allocated a portion of his assets to the cub.
First, it was a meeting gift for the cub, and second, it was to provide the cub with life security.
After Father Shen woke up, he immediately looked into the cub’s bloodline. Aside from the special ability he possessed, his bloodline was weak, unable to withstand even a ripple of berserkization.
He lacked high-level strength to protect himself, and his personal ability was unique.
Father Shen was always worried that the cub would be gone if he wasn’t careful, so he had the mechanists add many lethal weapons to the cub’s exclusive armory to serve as his future reliance.
The cub’s three older siblings all had Super S-grade fierce beast bloodlines. They wouldn’t starve to death with their own hard skills; perhaps people would even rush to give them resources.
Therefore, Father Shen was not worried about the future of his top three children, but rather the smallest, the youngest.
It made this old father, who usually practiced “free-range” parenting, feel the bitterness of raising a son for the first time.
The youngest was physically weak, delicate, and clingy.
There was an old saying on Blue Star: “The youngest son and the eldest grandson are the lifeblood of the elderly.”
In the past, he hadn’t taken this saying seriously.
He practiced the philosophy that “spare the rod, spoil the child.”
If a dog-like temper couldn’t be changed, it was because they hadn’t been whipped enough with a belt; a few more sessions would fix it. Throw them into the army for training, and their character could always be straightened out.
The most flighty Shen Number Three had once relied on his high bloodline talent to try and challenge his old man. The result was lying in a nutrient tank for half a month before regaining mobility.
Consequently, Shen Number Three now acted like a mouse seeing a cat in front of his old father, being unbelievably obedient.
But if it were the youngest, Father Shen couldn’t bring himself to do it.
Just seeing the youngest with red eyes made him somewhat unable to bear it, let alone using a rod to teach the boy.
Moreover, Father Shen felt that the look in the youngest’s eyes always carried a faint sadness.
So every time he saw the youngest’s tearful expression, his heart would suddenly throb with pain.
He always wanted to hold his little son and coax him properly.
Besides heartache, there was guilt.
He regretted a little bit, having left the youngest all alone on a waste star back then.
Years ago, the old Chief Executive was about to step down, and the councilors below were fighting for power, nearly beating each other’s brains out.
Every day, either this person was killed or that one died.
The entire Federation was foul and everyone was in a state of panic.
And Marshal Shen, because he sided with Kelisi (the current Chief Executive), faced assassinations every few days. Some people even bribed members of the military; he almost lost his life.
His three children were no exception.
It was either kidnapping or assassination.
Yet, at the critical moment, the youngest was born.
Worried that someone would use the youngest as a bargaining chip, Marshal Shen simply gritted his teeth and hid the youngest directly on a waste star.
Everyone knew the danger level of a waste star; no one knew when it would automatically disintegrate.
At that time, the youngest was equivalent to a semi-abandoned existence.
He had done right by everyone, but he had failed his youngest son.
Added to the fact that his youngest son had pulled him back from the brink of death, the guilt in his heart deepened, and he became even more biased toward his little son.
After careful consideration, Father Shen directly gave his most profitable asset to the youngest.
Shen Lin did not know with what complicated feelings Father Shen had given him such a rich asset.
His eyes were now entirely full of a craving for food.
Eight of his teeth had grown out; he could eat meat!
Although what he ate was beast meat diluted with energy, the Shen family’s chef’s roasting skills were truly too good. It didn’t reduce the deliciousness of the beast meat, which was fragrant the moment it entered the mouth.
Shen Lin indicated that he could have more.
He had a powerful digestive capacity; he could eat even more.
Instead, in his excitement, Shen Lin accidentally overate.
Propping up his slightly bulging little belly, he strolled around the small garden to aid digestion.
Shen Lin sat on a small swing, with colorful flowers blooming beneath his feet.
A few sparkling, translucent butterflies fluttered about, with one or two occasionally stopping in the flower stamens to rest.
Since they looked like transparent glass, one could clearly see the butterflies extending their transparent mouthparts to absorb pollen.
The multicolored pollen turned into nectar and was stored in the butterflies’ sacs, serving as a reserve for spinning cocoons in winter.
“Push~”
The little guy finished watching the butterflies and came back to his senses. Finding that the small swing wasn’t moving, he hurriedly spoke a single word to urge it.
The swing flew up once more, scaring away several butterflies.
The plants and flowers in the small garden came from all over the world, with all sorts of strange habits, so there were many servants taking care of them.
Every time Shen Lin saw a gardener, their appearance was different.
Now that the small garden was his own little world, Shen Lin found that the number of gardeners had increased significantly, and the way they walked was very similar to someone with a military background.
At first, Shen Lin didn’t take it seriously, thinking he was just overthinking.
Until the number of soldiers patrolling near the small castle doubled, and many strange auras were hidden in the darkness.
Shen Lin sent the Ghost Vine out to investigate.
Sharing the Ghost Vine’s perspective, he saw traces of something similar to Rat Beastmen in the sewers.
Rat Beastmen were small in stature, liked the shade and disliked light, and loved living in burrows or underground spaces.
This group of Rat Beastmen was agile, clearly specially trained and completely different from ordinary cowardly and timid Rat Beastmen.
They held small energy guns and stood at a post every step of the way.
The underground space was almost entirely occupied by Rat Beastmen.
Several times the Ghost Vine was almost discovered. Shen Lin only watched for a while before letting it return.
Shen Lin rubbed his chubby chin.
Has something happened?
Why is the house under martial law?
Could it be that something happened to Second Sister and the others?
He remembered when he first came to the small castle, he immediately had the Ghost Vine explore the surroundings.
At that time, there were no traces of Rat Beastmen in the sewers.
Originally, the Ghost Vine’s root system spread from the small castle to the sewers, its system so massive it could almost envelop the entire Shen residence.
Unfortunately, no matter how strong the Ghost Vine’s reproductive capacity was, it was powerless when faced with a berserk Super S-grade fierce beast.
Just helping the little cub subdue the black tiger had almost drained all the Ghost Vine’s strength.
Only the Ghost Vine’s main branch remained and had fallen into a deep sleep. Shen Lin used his healing power to slowly nourish it before it woke up again.
The Ghost Vine hadn’t completely recovered, so it had ignored the situation in the sewers.
If Shen Lin hadn’t been habitually paying attention to his surroundings, he wouldn’t have discovered the abnormality.
The abnormality at home forced Shen Lin to sharpen his spirits.
In the new world, beastmen followed rules and human ethics, but beastmen possessed abundant martial power and were also prone to violent tempers; if they weren’t careful, blood would be shed on the spot.
Even though the Shen residence was enclosed like an iron bucket and was very safe, it still couldn’t guarantee whether there were people who were out of their minds and seeking death.
Shen Lin stood on high alert for several days, and even went to see Papa, Second Sister, and Shen Number Three several times. He originally thought nothing had happened.
But on this day, his heart beat very hard.
His small hand tightly clutched his heart, and his rosy little face turned pale.
A’mei’s sharp eyes discovered that the young master, who was playing with a long-eared star shell in the toy room, didn’t look right. Her heart tightened, and she hurriedly stepped forward to check.
“Young Master, are you feeling unwell? I’ll go call the medical officer right away… Young Master, where are you going? Young Master…”
Shen Lin didn’t know what A’mei was saying; he only saw her mouth opening and closing.
Thump!
Thump-thump!
Thump-thump-thump!
His heart beat violently.
Shen Lin was a bit out of breath.
His gaze bypassed A’mei and looked into the distance.
It was Papa!
It was Papa’s aura!
Why was it getting further and further away?
Shen Lin suddenly remembered someone had said that after three months, Papa would be sent to the Blood Abyss.
Didn’t he clean out all the trash for Papa?
After recovering, Papa showed no signs of berserkization.
What exactly was going on?
He stumbled and ran toward the outside.
He bumped into many servants and attendants on the way.
An attendant looked panicked, wanting to come forward and see if the young master was hurt from the bump.
As a result, the young master crawled directly between his legs.
He ran faster and faster.
From two legs to all fours, he sprinted all the way.
His fluffy big tail acted as a rudder for direction, his hind legs exerting force as he quickly darted through the corridors.
He passed through star gates, passed through walkways, passed through the shadow-moving walls of silhouettes…
Those tall silhouettes that originally rushed toward the battlefield without looking back suddenly turned their heads and silently watched the cub’s fleeing figure.
The tall silhouettes transformed into upright soldiers holding firearms.
Even if their faces couldn’t be seen, one could vaguely capture the gaze of “as long as the war isn’t over, the momentum will not retreat” from their blurred features.
The cub passed through layers of large gates and arrived at the entrance, braking suddenly.
Besides the soldiers on guard duty, there were the tightly closed black gates behind them; nothing was visible in front of him.
Shen Lin took a breath and reached the gate in a few breaths.
The soldier on guard blocked Shen Lin’s way. “Young Master, is there something wrong?”
“Go… out~”
Shen Lin looked up and saw the soldier’s red eyes and the forced smile on his face. The bad premonition in his heart grew stronger, and his tone became urgent.
“Go… out~”
“This…” The soldier was troubled.
While the soldier hesitated, another soldier standing guard nearby suddenly stepped forward and said, “Young Master, I’ll open the door for you.”
The black gates slowly opened.
Shen Lin couldn’t wait; he squeezed directly through the gap.
The first soldier questioned his companion: “Why did you open the door? Didn’t the Second Miss stipulate that the door cannot be opened without permission?”
The companion gave him a look and tapped his helmet’s built-in goggles.
A blue light flashed from the goggles, popping up Shen Zexi’s cold and beautiful face.
The soldier’s expression turned solemn, and he immediately saluted: “Second Miss!”
Shen Zexi nodded, her slender white fingers forming a steeple. Her gaze remained fixed on that lonely little figure at the gate.
The weather today was not good. One moment it was clear for thousands of miles, the next moment dark clouds gathered, turning the sky gloomy.
Plip!
A drop of cool liquid landed on the tip of his nose.
Shen Lin felt nothing; his gaze was fixed tightly on the road in the distance.
He smelled a familiar scent in the air—it was Papa’s scent.
It was just that the scent was getting fainter and fainter.
The red panda cub just stared into the distance, lying on the ground without moving.
