Chapter 181: You Are My Medicine (6)
After Chen Yinnian asked that question, Xiao Ji did indeed fall into deep thought.
However, what he was pondering wasn’t whether he would continue to play with Chen Yinnian.
After all, for Xiao Ji, a lover was something that, once chosen, could not be changed. No matter what kind of creature the other person was, one was enough.
What he was contemplating were the various “perverted” scenarios Chen Yinnian might come up with and the countermeasures he should prepare.
But in Chen Yinnian’s eyes, his silence turned into hesitation.
Chen Yinnian stared at Xiao Ji for a moment, then squinted and laughed again:
“I was joking. I’m not a pervert; you don’t need to be afraid of me.”
Chen Yinnian couldn’t sleep. Though he said he would let Xiao Ji sleep a bit longer and wouldn’t disturb him, in reality, after leaving Xiao Ji’s room, he caused a non-stop clatter.
He used the banister of the villa’s staircase as a slide, sliding down, running back up, sliding down again, and running back up.
Then, on a whim, he decided he wanted to cook for Xiao Ji. After thinking it over, he threw a few eggs into a pot to boil in plain water and began looking for stir-fry tutorials.
While searching, he saw a short video promoting a small game, clicked on it, and started playing.
Standing in the kitchen to play wasn’t satisfying enough, so he returned to the living room—sitting on the sofa, lying on the rug, leaning against the banister, and standing on the surface of the coffee table.
Because he failed to clear the level seven or eight times in a row, he called customer service, saying he wanted to acquire the game development company.
As a result, the other party hung up on him immediately.
Chen Yinnian stood in the living room cursing for a while, then sniffed the air, seemingly smelling something acrid.
Just as he was looking around the living room for whatever was burning, he heard a loud bang from the kitchen.
Chen Yinnian’s heart jolted; only then did he remember the eggs he had left in the pot.
He sprinted into the kitchen, hurriedly turned off the stove, opened the window, and lifted the lid. He saw that the eggs had exploded in the pot, and the shells were scorched black against the bottom.
Chen Yinnian began to frantically clean up the mess. He looked at the dishwasher, somewhat doubting if it could clean the charred bottom of the pot.
After a moment of hesitation, he decided to wash it by hand.
Chen Yinnian searched the kitchen but couldn’t find anything like a steel wool scrub, so he began rummaging through the kitchen cabinets.
He was happily sticking his rear in the air while crawling on the floor to search the cabinet under the sink when he heard someone cough behind him. A voice asked:
“What are you doing?”
Chen Yinnian was startled again. He jerked his head up, nearly hitting the back of it, then turned around to glare at Xiao Ji:
“You’re not sleeping properly, and here I am making food—why did you come running over to scare me again?”
Xiao Ji looked at the range hood, which was working itself to death trying to suck out the black smoke, then at the charred pot in the sink and the black-and-yellow eggshells still sitting on the clean marble countertop:
“What kind of cooking method is this? Bombardment?”
Chen Yinnian scrambled up from the floor and leaned against the sink, rubbing his nose. He said somewhat guiltily:
“I didn’t mean to. I started the water and then forgot.”
Xiao Ji sighed. That pot was clearly going to be very difficult to clean.
He lifted the pot out of the sink, peeled the remaining eggs onto a plate, tossed the shells into the pot, and walked out of the kitchen with the pot in one hand and the plate in the other.
He went into the yard, placed the plate of eggs on the outdoor windowsill, and then tossed the pot into the trash can.
Chen Yinnian looked at the eggs on the windowsill and asked:
“Is this some kind of ritual?”
Xiao Ji glanced back at him: “Feeding the birds.”
Chen Yinnian was stunned: “You keep birds?”
Xiao Ji hummed: “Free-range.”
Chen Yinnian’s interest was piqued again: “Brother, can you show me your bird?”
Xiao Ji’s brow jumped: “You’ll see it when the fate is right.”
“What does your bird look like? Is it cute? What color? Big or small?” Chen Yinnian continued to ask.
Xiao Ji: “…”
He didn’t intend to continue the conversation about “birds” with Chen Yinnian, only asking: “What do you want to eat?”
Chen Yinnian let out a “yo” and exaggerated: “You can cook too? That’s awesome.”
Xiao Ji glanced at him: “Do you want to observe? Or find something else to do?”
Chen Yinnian immediately said: “I want to learn.”
In less than a day, Xiao Ji had already witnessed how unreliable Chen Yinnian was in this excited state. He truly didn’t believe a word about “learning.”
But being able to attract Chen Yinnian’s attention and keep him wandering under his nose was a good thing.
Thus, Xiao Ji prepared the noisiest meal he had made in several hundred years.
Whether it was washing vegetables, chopping them, or stir-frying, he could hear Chen Yinnian’s continuous stream of “Holy sh*t,” “Badass,” and “Invincible” praises.
Even while eating, Chen Yinnian wouldn’t stop praising.
Only Xiao Ji knew that his cooking had tasted the same for hundreds of years. It seemed only Yinnian would think it was delicious.
After the meal, Chen Yinnian took the initiative to do the dishes.
Xiao Ji said he could use the dishwasher, but Chen Yinnian insisted on washing them by hand, saying it showed more sincerity.
Consequently, amidst a series of clatter-smash sounds, Xiao Ji lost two more plates and a bowl.
Chen Yinnian felt very guilty and apologized. Finally, because of this guilt, he settled down for over half an hour.
It wasn’t until a delivery arrived with two massive cardboard boxes that Chen Yinnian became active again.
Inside those two massive boxes were twelve pots of different colors, styles, and materials, as well as thirty sets of tableware in different styles.
Chen Yinnian arranged them on the floor and asked Xiao Ji if he was satisfied—if not, he’d exchange them.
Xiao Ji fell silent once more. After a long while, he said to Chen Yinnian:
“Every set is very beautiful. Thank you.”
He wanted Chen Yinnian to put the sea of dishes away, but he was afraid the boy would accidentally break two more sets and then have to compensate him with even more. He could only personally pack the dishes and put them into the empty overhead cabinets in the kitchen.
The original host was a self-disciplined person who focused on health. The house had various gym equipment, and there was an open-air pool in the yard. Regardless of whether it was used or not, the pool water was changed every other day.
To burn off Chen Yinnian’s excess energy, he designed a fitness plan for him and spent an hour pumping iron with him.
Just as he was about to tell Chen Yinnian that he could shower in the guest room and change into a pair of unworn pajamas, Chen Yinnian vanished in the blink of an eye.
By the time he followed the afterimage of Chen Yinnian into the yard, he saw the boy strip off his clothes in a few swift motions and, wearing only his underwear, dive headfirst into the pool.
Over the years, Chen Yinnian might not have learned many “proper” things, but he had certainly learned a lot about seeking pleasure.
According to 037’s data, Chen Yinnian had even obtained an AOW diving certification.
Xiao Ji hadn’t initially taken it seriously, but unexpectedly, after diving in, Chen Yinnian didn’t surface for a long time.
