Mr. Popular Is Being Targeted Yet Again Chapter 55

Chapter 55: Ge… Something’s Wrong with Me

Jiang Qing didn’t hesitate any longer. He firmly supported Su Lin’s waist with one hand and hooked his other arm under Su Lin’s knees. With a bit of strength, he lifted the man into a steady princess carry.

Su Lin’s body was suddenly suspended in the air, and his arms instinctively circled Jiang Qing’s neck.

Jiang Qing wrapped his coat tightly around him. Just as he was about to turn and leave the equipment room, the phone in his pocket vibrated urgently again.

It wasn’t a call, but a continuous stream of message notifications from Jiang Limu.

Jiang Qing’s brows knit tightly. Holding Su Lin with one arm, he struggled to pull out his phone with the other and swiped the screen open.

A series of incoherent messages filled with typos and garbled symbols flooded in:

[Ge, my head is so dizzy @¥; so hot…] [There are so many people in the restroom ¥(:/… can’t leave…] [Ge, where are / you “(¥ something’s wrong with me…]

The last message was accompanied by a blurry photo, seemingly taken covertly from a tilted angle. The image showed a restroom sign in some part of the hotel and several swaying, malicious-looking silhouettes.

Jiang Qing’s heart sank.

Damn it!

Su Lin, in his arms, seemed to sense Jiang Qing’s stiffness and the sudden drop in the surrounding air pressure. “Gege… what happened?”

Jiang Qing took a deep breath.

Both younger brothers were in trouble at the same time, both in danger.

He suddenly remembered that the top floor of this hotel had several special suites that were never open to the public—even people within the hotel rarely knew about them. Jiang Yu had specially reserved and renovated them a few years ago, nominally as emergency backup locations for Jiang Group executives.

Jiang Yu had given him sole permanent usage rights and maximum authorization for one of the suites.

At the time, Jiang Yu had only said: “If you ever need an absolutely quiet place where no one will disturb you, use this.”

He never expected the first time he used it would be under these circumstances.

Carrying Su Lin, Jiang Qing relied on his memory to walk quickly toward an inconspicuous corridor at the deepest part of the hotel that connected to the internal area. There was an elevator there that required special commands to call.

He walked to the antique vase at the end of the corridor and turned a hidden knob on the base of the vase. After a faint click, the wall beside him slid open silently, revealing a miniature elevator that could only fit two or three people.

Jiang Qing slipped inside with Su Lin. There were no buttons inside the elevator, only a fingerprint recognition area. He pressed his thumb against it, the screen lit up green, and the elevator started automatically, rising smoothly.

In the cramped space, there was only the sound of Su Lin’s breathing and the faint hum of the elevator. Su Lin seemed to have cleared his head slightly due to the movement and the change in environment. He struggled to open his eyes, looking mistily at Jiang Qing’s jawline so close to him.

“…Ge… where are we going?” His voice was hoarse and weak.

“A safe place,” Jiang Qing looked down at him. “A place only I know about. Don’t be afraid.”

The elevator stopped silently, and the doors slid open.

In front of him was a short corridor covered in thick carpet, with only a single dark solid wood door at the end.

Jiang Qing carried Su Lin to the door. The lock used iris recognition. He leaned down slightly, aligning the scanner with his eyes.

With a beep, the lock disengaged.

Jiang Qing pushed the door open and entered.

The scene inside the room was completely different from the “backup safe house” he had envisioned. It didn’t have the cold, stiff feel of a business suite; instead, it looked more like a meticulously decorated private residence. There was a comfortable, large sofa, and outside the floor-to-ceiling windows on one wall was a dazzling city night view. The air was filled with the faint scent of his usual sleep-aiding incense—clearly, Jiang Yu had specially decorated this according to his preferences.

Jiang Qing didn’t have time to overthink whether there were other meanings behind his big brother’s overly thoughtful arrangement. He carried Su Lin quickly into the master bedroom, placed him on the bed, and pulled a thin duvet over him.

Coming into contact with the soft bed and the familiar peaceful atmosphere, Su Lin’s tense nerves seemed to relax slightly, but the heat and discomfort in his body remained obvious. He curled up uncomfortably, and fine beads of sweat broke out on his forehead again.

“Su Lin,” Jiang Qing knelt by the bed, looking at his flushed face and tightly closed eyes. “Listen, I have to go find Jiang Limu right now. Stay in this room and don’t open the door for anyone who knocks. Understand?”

Su Lin struggled to open his eyes, which were filled with moisture. “…Okay.”

“Wait for me to come back.”

With that, he didn’t stay any longer. He stood up and walked quickly out of the bedroom, locking the door from the outside and activating the additional electronic lock. After ensuring Su Lin was temporarily safe, he immediately ran toward the elevator.

Time was of the essence. Jiang Limu’s situation was unclear, and every second could mean more danger.

As he hurried toward the elevator, he pulled out his phone to check the chaotic messages Jiang Limu had just sent. The restroom sign in the photo… was located in the VIP lounge area on the other side of the hotel.

Jiang Qing pressed the elevator button. It would take time for the elevator to descend from the top floor. He couldn’t wait; his gaze swept toward the nearby emergency exit, and he pushed the door open without hesitation, racing down the stairs.

The party had moved against Su Lin and Jiang Limu simultaneously; it was clearly a meticulously planned attempt to create maximum chaos and scandal. Xu Xunsen was a pawn on the surface, but there was bound to be a mastermind behind him.

Don’t let me find out who you really are.

When he arrived near the VIP lounge area, he could hear the noise coming from the direction of the men’s restroom from a distance. There seemed to be pushing and arguing, along with Jiang Limu’s muffled, slurred curses.

Jiang Qing kicked the restroom door open.

The scene inside made his pupils shrink.

Jiang Limu was leaning against the wall, his face flushed and his gaze hazy. He was being surrounded by three thuggish-looking men. One was trying to pull at his tie, while another was holding a phone, seemingly trying to take a photo.

“Get lost! Don’t touch me!”

“What if I touch you? Little Young Master Jiang, if I take a photo of you like this, it’ll definitely be exciting…” the man with the phone said with a lewd laugh.

Before he could finish, a massive force struck from the side!

Jiang Qing landed a heavy punch on the phone-holding man’s face; the sound of his nasal bone breaking was clearly audible as the phone flew out. Simultaneously, he delivered a side kick to another man’s knee, sending him kneeling to the floor screaming. The third man hadn’t even reacted before Jiang Qing twisted his arm and slammed his head hard against the marble sink. With a muffled groan, the man slid down limply.

Seeing Jiang Qing, the will Jiang Limu had been clinging to instantly collapsed, and tears poured out. “Ge…”

“Don’t be afraid, I’m here.” Jiang Qing stepped forward to support him and quickly checked his state. He had also been drugged, but likely due to his constitution or the dosage, he was in slightly better shape than Su Lin. He was still conscious, but his body was equally burning and weak.

“Can you walk?” Jiang Qing asked.

Jiang Limu nodded, gritting his teeth as he tried to stand steady, but his steps were unsteady.

Supporting the wobbly, burning Jiang Limu, Jiang Qing headed toward the secret private elevator again.

Time was tight; he had to ensure both younger brothers were in an absolutely safe environment. The suite on the top floor was the best choice for now.

He pressed the elevator button while keeping an alert eye on his surroundings. Jiang Limu leaned against him, his consciousness fading in and out, muttering “Ge,” “uncomfortable,” and “hot.”

“It’s okay, we’ll be in a safe place soon,” Jiang Qing reassured him in a low voice.

The elevator doors opened again, and Jiang Qing quickly led Jiang Limu inside, heading straight for the top floor.

He opened the door and helped Jiang Limu into the dimly lit room. The indoor temperature seemed a bit low; a wave of coolness brushed against his face, but it failed to dispel the heat brought by himself and the person beside him.
