Chapter 210
Ning Shan’s expression froze for a split second, but he soon returned to normal. He said, “Did Miss Wen not tell you?”
Shen Shuyu shook his head. Ning Shan said, “Then it’s not convenient for me to say either. If you want to know, you can find time to ask Miss Wen.”
But with that said, Shen Shuyu understood why Ning Shan had invited him to coffee for no reason today.
Shen Shuyu picked up the lemon water, took a sip, and said with a beaming smile, “Suddenly, I don’t want to know that much anymore.”
Ning Shan opened his folded hands in a gesture of helplessness. “Fair enough.”
The idle chat between the two soon ended. Shen Shuyu calculated that Wen Jiafei should be back soon. He finished the last sip of lemon water and said, “I’m off.”
Ning Shan nodded. “Stay safe.”
That “stay safe” sounded a bit like something an elder would say. Shen Shuyu stood up and asked, “Do you have anything you need me to relay?”
Ning Shan was a bit stunned, but he soon reacted. He said gently, “Thank you, but no need.”
Miss Wen likely wouldn’t want to hear anything from him.
Shen Shuyu let out an “oh” and truly left this time. Only Ning Shan remained in his seat. He watched Shen Shuyu head toward the hotel through the floor-to-ceiling window, only withdrawing his gaze once the boy was out of sight.
Shen Shuyu returned to the hotel. As soon as he opened the door, he smelled the rich scent of bitter orange. He quickly looked back outside; the bodyguards weren’t at the door.
Shen Shuyu closed the door again, but he didn’t see Wen Jiafei in the living room. He looked toward the bedroom; the door was half-ajar. It had been closed when he left this morning, and the housekeeping definitely wouldn’t have left it like that. Coupled with the rich bitter orange pheromones in the air, he didn’t even need to think to know who it was.
Shen Shuyu took off his coat and placed it casually on the small sofa. He slowly peered toward the bedroom. Sure enough, Wen Jiafei was lying on the bed, holding… his clothes in his arms?
Although he knew Alphas in their rut had a high demand for their Omega’s company, Shen Shuyu couldn’t help but be shocked upon seeing this scene.
Wen Jiafei seemed to be sleeping with his face buried in the clothes. Hearing the noise of the door opening, he raised his head muddily, only clearing his mind once he saw the person standing at the door.
He said in a raspy voice, “You’re back.”
Then, realizing something, he quickly glanced at the clothes in his arms, stood up, and explained rapidly, “I, I didn’t mean to. Sorry.”
He just missed Shen Shuyu too much. Halfway through the meeting, the discomfort of the rut surged up again. Injecting another inhibitor only barely allowed him to maintain a calm appearance during the meeting.
As soon as the meeting ended, Wen Jiafei hurried back. He wanted to see Shen Shuyu and get his comfort, but Shen Shuyu wasn’t there. He didn’t have anything to contact Shen Shuyu with, so he could only lie in the place where the boy had lain, desperately sniffing the lingering pheromones. It seemed only this could alleviate some of the unease and agitation in his body.
Seeing his crimson ears and the way he was panicking while explaining, Shen Shuyu felt his heart soften. He said, “I didn’t say I was going to blame you.”
Wen Jiafei got off the bed and walked over barefoot, yet he still maintained a distance of a few steps from Shen Shuyu. Just as Shen Shuyu was feeling puzzled, he couldn’t help but look over, only to see Wen Jiafei staring at him expectantly, without saying a word.
But Shen Shuyu understood his meaning in an instant from his gaze. He let out a light cough. “Come here.”
The camellia pheromones slowly merged with the bitter orange pheromones in the room. Wen Jiafei took one step, then two, until he was in front of Shen Shuyu. Shen Shuyu opened his arms, and the boy’s expression brightened slightly. He immediately embraced Shen Shuyu tightly, only unable to resist a small protest after the hug: “Where did you go?”
It felt like he had waited for an eternity.
Shen Shuyu said, “Didn’t I tell you? I had to see my parents off.”
Wen Jiafei remembered; there was such a matter. But the timing was off.
Just as he was thinking this, Shen Shuyu continued, “Then I ran into Ning Shan on the way back.”
Upon hearing the name of another Alpha, Wen Jiafei was visibly displeased. Although he didn’t say it explicitly, Shen Shuyu was almost being hugged to the point of breathlessness.
He said helplessly, “Wen Jiafei, Ning Shan is your uncle.”
An Alpha in their rut couldn’t be bothered with that.
Shen Shuyu couldn’t help but ask, “If you’re this clingy during your rut, does that mean I’ll only be able to stay home and accompany you in the future?”
Wen Jiafei responded in his ear with a muffled voice, “You can do whatever you want to do. I will follow you closely.”
He wouldn’t hinder anything Shen Shuyu wanted to do. He would only follow obediently behind him, as long as Shen Shuyu glanced back at him once in a while.
Shen Shuyu let him hold him for a good while, only patting his shoulder once he sensed his pheromones had stabilized. “Go to the living room. I have something to ask you.”
Only then did Wen Jiafei reluctantly let go. Shen Shuyu touched his face, then took his hand and led him to the living room.
Shen Shuyu first ordered a dinner, then asked, “How did you get back? I saw that your bodyguards weren’t at the door.”
“They’ve been withdrawn.” Wen Jiafei couldn’t control his desire to cling, but seeing Shen Shuyu’s serious look, he could only sneakily pull at the hem of the boy’s clothes. It seemed only after contact would he gain a great sense of peace.
Shen Shuyu naturally saw his little action. After all, it was his own boyfriend; Shen Shuyu was very willing to comfort him. He actively took the hand pulling at his clothes and intertwined their fingers.
He asked, “Do you feel a bit better now?”
Wen Jiafei gave a muffled hum. “Better.”
But that was how people were—once they had a bit, they wanted more. Wen Jiafei felt his gland teeth itching; he really wanted to bite the gland at the back of Shen Shuyu’s neck.
But Shen Shuyu’s attention was on those three words he had just spoken. He asked, “Withdrawn? Why were they withdrawn?”
Wen Jiafei also tried hard to remain reserved. He said, “At the meeting today, Ning Bai transferred half of the equity to me.”
This half of the equity was already enough to allow Wen Jiafei to enter and leave the Ning Group freely. Naturally, the other members of the Ning family wouldn’t dare to engage in petty schemes like before.
Shen Shuyu asked, “You’ve seen Ning Bai?”
“I haven’t seen him.” When Wen Jiafei mentioned Ning Bai, his tone carried a hint of impatience. “Since I’ve returned, I haven’t seen him once.”
Communication between the two relied entirely on Ning Shan relaying messages. Originally, Ning Bai hadn’t intended to give half of the equity to Wen Jiafei so soon, but it was unclear what Ning Shan had said to him. As soon as Ning Bai regained some clarity today, he immediately sent over the equity transfer contract.
While they were in the meeting and the other members of the Ning family were still insisting that Wen Jiafei didn’t have the surname Ning, hadn’t received a unified education in the family, and much less held shares, the contract was delivered.
With shares, the others naturally didn’t dare to say much. Although Ning Bai didn’t state anything specifically, this action was enough to demonstrate his determination.
The next head of the Ning family was Wen Jiafei.
Shen Shuyu patted his back a few times to comfort him.
Wen Jiafei continued, “The bodyguards were originally used by the Ning family to monitor me under the guise of protection. Now that I have more equity than any of them, they naturally have to withdraw.”
In the Ning family, power was paramount. Wen Jiafei had originally wanted his terminal back, but some opportunistic members of the Ning family had already started sucking up to him on the way. If he took back the terminal for communication, it would likely be even more annoying.
Shen Shuyu understood. But with Wen Jiafei saying this, he remembered what he had forgotten just now. He was about to stand up when Wen Jiafei immediately became tense. “Where are you going?”
His grip on their intertwined hands tightened.
