Chapter 188: You Are My Medicine (13)
Xiao Ji’s gaze drifted toward Chen Yinnian’s bare, pale legs.
“My boyfriend.”
After that brief introduction, he turned to Chen Yinnian. “Be good. Put some pants on before you come back out.”
Chen Yinnian gave a distracted “Oh.” He retreated behind the glass partition, pulled on his trousers, grabbed a mop from the washroom, and returned to the room, feigning a sudden urge to clean.
He mopped the small patch of floor beneath Wen Jie’s feet no fewer than thirty times.
The atmosphere in the room was stiflingly quiet.
The only sound was the rhythmic squelch of Chen Yinnian’s mop as he paced back and forth.
After a long silence, Xiao Ji finally spoke.
“I don’t have any suitable positions for you here. I can lend you a sum of money, provided you sign an IOU and eventually repay it into my boyfriend’s account.”
He paused, then added to Chen Yinnian, “Please add his contact information.”
Xiao Ji’s overt drawing of boundaries, coupled with the blatant way he provided Chen Yinnian with a sense of security, left a bitter taste in Wen Jie’s mouth.
Wen Jie looked at Xiao Ji, his expression stubborn. “I didn’t come here to borrow money. I’m sorry for disturbing you. I’ll take my leave.”
With that, he pushed open the door to the lounge and walked out with heavy steps, never looking back.
Chen Yinnian let out a sharp “Yo,” crossing his arms as he looked at Xiao Ji.
“Your old flame seems pretty upset.”
Xiao Ji patted his lap, gesturing for Chen Yinnian to come over.
“Just an old classmate. We haven’t been in touch for years. I let you see him and let you hear everything I said—so why the sarcasm?”
Chen Yinnian sat unceremoniously on Xiao Ji’s lap.
“What boyfriend? Who’s your boyfriend? Did you court me? Did you send me gifts? Did you even confess?”
Xiao Ji spoke bluntly. “We’ve kissed, embraced, and slept together. Time is tight; I’ll make up the rest to you later.”
Chen Yinnian snorted.
“You’re so ‘traditional’—kissing, hugging, and bedding me before the relationship is even official.”
“Yet you’re so ‘untraditional’ that after only two nights in bed, you have the nerve to call me your boyfriend.”
“Brother, what exactly is your deal?”
As he spoke, he started getting restless again, shifting and twisting on Xiao Ji’s lap.
Xiao Ji wrapped an arm around Chen Yinnian’s waist while listening to 037’s nagging in his mind:
[Now that you’ve put the Little Phoenix on display, Wen Jie will either back off or look for another chance to test you when he isn’t around.]
[If he catches the Phoenix away and tries something, and the Phoenix finds out, it’s going to be a total shit-show.]
[But if he just backs off now, how are you going to finish your mission?]
Xiao Ji replied mentally: [No need to worry. Calculate exactly how much Wen Jie owes, including his casino debts. Transfer the total to him from an anonymous account.]
He thought for a moment. [Add an extra million on top.]
037 was baffled: [Are we running a charity now?]
Xiao Ji said: [He has tasted the bitterness of poverty. In a place like Jinsha, if your luck is good, making a fortune isn’t a problem.]
037 sort of understood: [You mean… you want him to gamble?]
Xiao Ji replied: [There’s no need for deliberate guidance. It all depends on his own character. If he chooses to step onto the path of no return, no one can stop him.]
037 said it understood and silenced itself to handle the task.
Meanwhile, Xiao Ji remained in his chair and began to unfasten Chen Yinnian’s trousers…
That night, after Xiao Ji had thoroughly exhausted Chen Yinnian’s energy and finally coaxed him to sleep, he found himself wide awake.
He took a shower, drank half a glass of red wine, and handled some business affairs. During this time, he received a message from Chen Ni, asking if Chen Yinnian was in Jinsha.
After receiving Xiao Ji’s confirmation, Chen Ni agreed to the demands Xiao Ji had proposed earlier.
He also cautioned Xiao Ji: if he reached his limit, not to hurt Chen Yinnian. He only asked that the boy be “returned safe and sound,” and that subsequent matters could be discussed later.
Xiao Ji didn’t reply. Listening to Chen Yinnian’s steady breathing, drowsiness finally began to wash over him.
However, he had slept for less than two hours when he heard a rustling sound beside him.
A moment later, he heard Chen Yinnian whispering into a phone.
The voice was very soft—he was likely wearing earphones. Xiao Ji couldn’t hear the other side, only Chen Yinnian’s secretive murmurs:
“What time?”
“It’ll take me about an hour to get there. Is that enough time?”
“What kind of race?”
“Are the stakes worth it?”
“I didn’t drive that one. This car won’t do.”
“Doubting me? I’ve never f*cking lost!”
With that, he hung up in a hurry and crept out of the lounge.
Xiao Ji sighed, opened his eyes, and got out of bed. He said to 037: [Track his location.]
As he spoke, he changed his clothes with practiced efficiency and followed Chen Yinnian out.
There were only a few things that could trigger Chen Yinnian’s adrenaline.
Based on those few sentences, Xiao Ji could guess the general idea—it was almost certainly some form of racing.
Xiao Ji hadn’t seen the car Chen Yinnian arrived in today, only the keys; it wasn’t a motorcycle.
He dismissed his driver and took his own expensive black sedan, following 037’s navigation toward the city outskirts.
Fifty minutes later, Xiao Ji reached his destination.
It was an abandoned mountain road.
Years ago, the road had been plagued by accidents due to its steepness. Later, heavy rains and landslides caused a tunnel collapse, leading to the road being completely shut down.
Xiao Ji parked his car on the roadside about a hundred meters away from Chen Yinnian. Up ahead, he saw over a dozen cars with their headlights beaming, illuminating a crowd of young men and women.
Among the vehicles were an emergency medical van, a bus, and a business van.
There were also three or four off-roaders.
The rest were all gaudily modified racing cars.
Following a burst of wild laughter, a sports car roared past Xiao Ji, the engine’s thunder vibrating through the air.
Xiao Ji dialed Chen Yinnian’s number. He watched as Chen Yinnian, who was laughing and chatting with two young boys, pulled his phone from his pocket.
The moment he saw the screen, Chen Yinnian’s face visibly stiffened. He seemed to hesitate, unsure whether to answer.
Then, amidst the teasing of the two beside him, he hung up and stuffed the phone back into his pocket.
Xiao Ji let out a cold sneer. He said to 037:
[Call the kid he’s talking to.]
037 obeyed, and a string of numbers was automatically dialed on Xiao Ji’s phone.
Very quickly, the boy who had been teasing Chen Yinnian answered:
“Who is this?”
Xiao Ji spoke bluntly: “Are you the one hosting the event tonight?”
The boy froze. He signaled to Chen Yinnian and the other boy before stepping aside. “What event? You’ve got the wrong number.”
Xiao Ji said: “Don’t be afraid. I’m here to compete. Route 603—I can already see you.”
The boy frowned. “Compete?”
Xiao Ji gave a hum. “How do I place a bet?”
The boy was cautious. “I don’t have your ID info. I won’t let you race. If something happens, my brothers and I will all take the fall.”
Xiao Ji said calmly:
“Turn around. Walk straight for a hundred meters. I’m by the roadside.”
The boy turned around and narrowed his eyes. Sure enough, he saw an ordinary black sedan parked a hundred meters away.
He strode over to Xiao Ji, stopped by the driver’s window, and knocked.
Xiao Ji lowered the window and looked at the boy.
Jinsha wasn’t that large.
There were only so many wealthy people at the top of the pyramid.
The Xiao family was one of them.
The moment the boy saw Xiao Ji’s face, he gasped.
“…Xiao… CEO Xiao…”
Xiao Ji raised a hand to cut him off.
“Get it arranged. Go tell Chen Yinnian that tonight, he’s going to lose for sure.”
