Chapter 190: You Are My Medicine (15)
Another peal of thunder roared.
Chen Yinnian slammed his foot on the accelerator once more.
The tunnel ahead was extremely narrow, essentially requiring a straight path. At high speeds, Chen Yinnian gripped the steering wheel tight to prevent any hydroplaning.
Before entering the tunnel, he instinctively glanced at the rearview mirror.
The green Koenigsegg was long gone. In its place was a black sedan, following closely behind.
Under the current conditions, Chen Yinnian didn’t have time to make out the license plate.
But instinctively, his heart tightened. He knew this was likely the “special circumstance” Li Hao had mentioned.
Chen Yinnian was someone who refused to lose. The owner of the car behind him had presumably laid down a challenge through Li Hao; if he lost today, he wouldn’t be able to face himself.
No one was allowed to challenge him.
Chen Yinnian sneered, his foot pressing the gas almost to the floor.
The tunnel was narrow and oppressive. For once, Chen Yinnian’s concentration was intensely focused.
But Xiao Ji, who followed so closely that his front bumper was almost touching Chen Yinnian’s rear, left him feeling incredibly irritable.
In a moment of distraction, his front bumper scraped against the left wall. He quickly made a micro-adjustment to his steering.
Seeing this, Xiao Ji frowned and slightly increased the distance between them.
Chen Yinnian didn’t know what the person behind him was thinking, but fortunately, luck seemed to be on his side—at least, no further collapses occurred inside the narrow tunnel.
However, no one could have predicted that the moment Chen Yinnian shot out of the tunnel, a massive boulder would fall.
It was on a direct collision course with the roof of Chen Yinnian’s car. At that moment, even Chen Yinnian couldn’t help but panic.
When an accident happens in a split second, it is difficult for a human to stay calm and make an accurate judgment.
One can only instinctively take measures they believe will avoid the risk.
For example, slamming on the brakes.
But according to 037’s calculations, if Chen Yinnian hit the brakes now, the point of impact for the falling rock would be directly above his head.
[Quick! Quick! Quick!]
It hurriedly urged Xiao Ji, its metaphorical heart in its throat, nearly biting its own tongue.
Xiao Ji did not belong to the human realm.
In that critical moment, he made the most rational and rapid choice.
He floored the accelerator, slamming into the rear of Chen Yinnian’s car and forcing it forward a significant distance.
At the same time, the falling rock landed with a heavy thud on the trunk of Xiao Ji’s car.
The massive sound made Chen Yinnian’s scalp tingle.
Just as he prepared to stop and look back, Xiao Ji didn’t linger for a second. He streaked past Chen Yinnian, brushing past his side.
By the time Chen Yinnian reacted, Xiao Ji had already pulled a great distance ahead of him.
Chen Yinnian wasn’t stupid. He knew that if that black car hadn’t rammed him from behind, he would likely be lying in a mangled car right now, bleeding and unconscious.
Whether he would even be alive was another matter.
Chen Yinnian rarely felt fear during his manic phases.
This was the first time.
The sensation of brushing against death and then escaping it left him in a state of extreme agitation following the lingering fear.
He recovered his wits and began to chase the car ahead with everything he had.
His previous dissatisfaction had vanished. Although his competitive streak remained, he had already silently dubbed the unknown driver as his “brother from another mother.”
The rain continued to pour. In the end, Chen Yinnian couldn’t catch the car in front.
Following the mountain road down to the starting point, he saw the black car cross the finish line. Just as Chen Yinnian was about to accelerate again, he saw that car suddenly drift, spinning around on the spot to face him head-on.
Chen Yinnian slammed on his brakes. The moment their bumpers met, the black car used the force of Chen Yinnian’s remaining momentum to reverse.
No collision occurred, but using Chen Yinnian’s force, it was the first to return to the starting line.
Once the car came to a steady halt, Chen Yinnian let out a long breath. Seeing the driver’s door open, he quickly unbuckled his seatbelt and stepped out.
He wanted to greet his savior, but the smile on his face froze before it could fully form.
Xiao Ji, his face cold and expressionless, stood in the rain and said:
“Have you played enough?”
Chen Yinnian’s heart sank to the bottom. Oh, shit, he thought, instinctively looking toward Li Hao, who was holding an umbrella by the roadside.
Li Hao made a gesture of surrender and refused to meet Chen Yinnian’s eyes.
“What are you looking at him for? Chen Yinnian, I’m talking to you.”
Chen Yinnian withdrew his gaze and pursed his lips.
After a long internal struggle, he chose to throw himself into Xiao Ji’s arms, acting spoiled.
“Brother, I was wrong. I’ll never come racing again.”
Xiao Ji didn’t believe a word of it. He pulled out his phone and opened the recording function.
“Say it again.”
Chen Yinnian knew that Xiao Ji must be furious. If he didn’t admit his mistake now, the consequences would be unimaginable.
He hurriedly shouted his promise once more.
Only then did Xiao Ji push him away, walk to the car Chen Yinnian had arrived in, and hold out his hand.
Chen Yinnian knew Xiao Ji definitely wasn’t looking to hold his hand.
He obediently fished out the keys and placed them in Xiao Ji’s palm.
Once Xiao Ji unlocked the car, he climbed submissively into the passenger seat.
Xiao Ji got in and gave Chen Yinnian a look.
Chen Yinnian immediately buckled his seatbelt.
Only then did Xiao Ji step on the gas, simultaneously calling his assistant to arrange for his own car to be towed away.
The atmosphere during the drive back was freezing.
For once, Chen Yinnian didn’t even dare to breathe too loudly.
It wasn’t until they entered the city limits that Chen Yinnian took the initiative to speak, saying to Xiao Ji:
“Brother, did I cause trouble for you? I’m sorry.”
Xiao Ji remained silent for a long time before speaking:
“I know you have endless energy with nowhere to vent. But you aren’t alone anymore. Before you do anything, you must at least consider how I would face things if something happened to you.”
This wasn’t the first time Chen Yinnian had received such a lecture.
Listening to Xiao Ji’s unusually stern tone, he suddenly felt miserable.
“I find it hard to control myself. You should have known that from the start. I’m sorry for my actions, but I can’t promise you that similar things won’t happen again.”
“Actually, wouldn’t it be better if I just died sooner? If I’m dead, everyone gets some peace. No one would have to live in fear for me anymore.”
Hearing this, Xiao Ji stopped the car by the roadside and stared directly at Chen Yinnian.
He wanted to say:
“If you say that one more time, I’ll kill you myself.”
But he couldn’t.
After taking a moment to process his own emotions, he reached out and pulled Chen Yinnian into his arms.
“I’m not blaming you. I’ll allow you to do anything, provided you let me be by your side.”
“That is my bottom line, Chen Yinnian. Can you do that?”
Feeling Xiao Ji’s wet, cold embrace, Chen Yinnian felt his throat tighten and his nose sting.
He hugged Xiao Ji back, his tears falling like rain.
“I’m sorry, Brother. I won’t do it again.”
