Chapter 60: Forging the Divine Weapon, Slaying Back to the Sect Gate
“Chairman Ji, Young Master Shen.” Pei Luomian’s voice rang out.
He was the last to arrive.
Menglan Dao was a property of the Pei family. Upon receiving the news, he immediately went to coordinate the maritime search and rescue team and the security guards.
At this moment, he had arrived with his men.
Seeing this, Jiang Ying suddenly approached Pei Luomian. “Director Pei, has the search and rescue team arrived?”
Pei Luomian nodded to him and was about to speak.
“Mr. Pei.” The security supervisor of the scenic area walked over. “We have cordoned off the scene and are currently retrieving the surveillance footage.”
As soon as he finished speaking, a young security guard ran over and whispered a few words into the captain’s ear.
After listening, the captain looked troubled.
“Speak,” Pei Luomian commanded.
“A witness claimed to have seen Mr. Fu and this Mr. Jiang… seemingly having an unpleasant encounter before the incident.”
“Unpleasant?” Shen Junnian let out a cold laugh. “I’d call it attempted murder!”
“We have retrieved the surveillance footage,” the young guard added, “but that spot is a blind zone. We only captured some blurry silhouettes.”
“Lock him up!” Shen Junnian pointed at Jiang Ying. “Until Fu Yue is found, he is the primary suspect!”
Jiang Ying acted as if he hadn’t heard. He bypassed the crowd and walked straight to the search and rescue captain. “I want to participate in the search.”
Just then, a search and rescue member responsible for surveying the terrain ran over, drenched in sweat.
“Captain, the situation is bad!”
He panted heavily, spreading out a simple map.
“The terrain at the bottom of the cliff is complex. It’s a canyon with dense vegetation, full of shrubs and small caves. Communication signals are basically zero. It’s hard to get our large equipment down there; we can only rely on a manual search.”
Everyone’s heart sank.
Ji Hanmo looked up at the sky.
The previously clear sky had turned gloomy at some point.
Thick dark clouds were rapidly gathering from the sea level, and a damp, oppressive atmosphere filled the air.
The search member swallowed. “The weather forecast says there will be a thunderstorm within half an hour.”
A chill went through everyone.
Once it started raining, not only would all traces be washed away, but the canyon would very likely experience landslides and flooding.
When that happened, forget about saving someone—the search and rescue team itself would have to pull out!
For a moment, anxiety enveloped the entire cliff.
Patter, patter…
Bean-sized raindrops fell without warning.
First a few sparse drops, then quickly turning into a curtain of rain.
The sky darkened very quickly.
The rain hit the search members’ helmets and hammered on the tense nerves of everyone present.
“Captain, the thermal imaging is severely interfered with by the vegetation and terrain; it’s basically useless!”
a technician’s voice came over the walkie-talkie, accompanied by crackling static, sounding exceptionally piercing.
The captain wiped the rain from his face and looked down at the bottomless canyon.
“The situation is very grim. Our people aren’t familiar with this area. we can only conduct a grid search by sectors. But it’s getting dark too fast, and the rain is getting heavier. The difficulty and danger of a night search will increase exponentially.”
He paused, looking at the grim expressions of the moguls before him, and added with difficulty, “Please be prepared. Don’t… hold out too much hope.”
“Bullshit!” Shen Junnian could no longer control his emotions. “My people will be here soon! If you can’t find him, I’ll go down and find him myself!”
Almost simultaneously, the sound of a helicopter’s rotors came from the sky.
Ji Hanmo hung up his phone and pointed to the helicopter. “I called a private search and rescue team. I’ll lead one team in from the south.”
“Director Pei, you and the medical support staff stay here for backup.” After Ji Hanmo finished speaking to Pei Luomian, he turned to depart.
Only after Ji Hanmo and Shen Junnian had led their men away did Jiang Ying speak.
“Let me take a group down,” he said decisively. “The year before last, when I was working on the aquarium project, I stayed on this island for six months and surveyed this canyon area on foot. Director Pei should know this.”
He looked at Pei Luomian.
Seeing that Pei Luomian didn’t object, Jiang Ying turned to the search captain, his speech rapid. “I am familiar with the terrain here. I know the shortest path down, I know where there might be caves to shelter from the rain, and I know where there is water. Let me go down; I can save you at least half the search time.”
The captain hesitated.
All these big shots wanted to personally get involved. If another accident happened, he might as well blow himself up on the spot.
“I agree to let him participate in the search,” Pei Luomian declared.
“Mr. Pei?” The captain was surprised.
Pei Luomian stepped in front of Jiang Ying.
The rain had soaked his black hair, and his glasses were covered in droplets.
He stared into Jiang Ying’s eyes and said word by word:
“I can let you go down.”
“But, if you do anything to harm Fu Yue…” Pei Luomian’s voice held a chill, “you won’t be leaving this island.”
Jiang Ying met his gaze.
“Fine.”
He said only one word, but a look that was hard to decipher rippled in his eyes.
At this very moment, a hundred meters below the cliff.
Fu Yue was woken up by the cold.
The biting chill was like fine needles, pricking every pore of his body.
The scent of rain mixed with soil invaded his nose.
He struggled to open his eyes.
All he could see was a bit of faint moonlight filtering through the layers of the tree canopy, casting mottled shadows.
“Hiss—”
Fu Yue tried to move, and a piercing pain immediately surged from his left leg, making him gasp.
The memories before falling off the cliff replayed in his mind frame by frame—the terrified faces of the couple in the phone camera, the weightless feeling of spinning while falling.
Most importantly, that sudden, malicious shove on his waist.
“I was pushed.”
This realization made Fu Yue instantly tense up.
He subconsciously reached for the phone in his pocket.
The result—
The screen was shattered, it was soaked with rain, and the power button gave no response.
It was over. He was completely cut off.
A fear rooted in survival instinct made Fu Yue tremble uncontrollably.
At the bottom of a deserted cliff, in terrible weather, with a broken phone and a severely injured leg.
Fu Yue’s breathing grew rapid.
Of all things, he had to transmigrate into a modern romance novel.
If he had transmigrated into a xianxia novel, falling off a cliff would mean finding a lucky chance, breaking through to the Nascent Soul stage, forging a divine weapon, slaying back to the sect gate, and becoming a grandmaster.
“I don’t want to die!”
Ji Linye and Chen Bai hadn’t even married yet; he hadn’t received the hundred million bonus; he hadn’t had enough of the 9-to-9-to-6 misery… wait, he hadn’t enjoyed the rich life enough!
Beyond that, what Fu Yue was most unwilling to accept was that he was still a virgin.
His new life—especially his new xing (sex) life—hadn’t even begun. How could he just die here like this for no reason?
The desire to survive overrode his fear.
Fu Yue gritted his teeth and forced himself to calm down. He was an adult who had endured plenty of hardships, not a flower in a greenhouse.
The more critical the moment, the less he could afford to panic.
Fu Yue began to calmly assess his current situation.
