Chapter 25: As Expected of You
It was half an hour later when Chen Wei arrived at the hotel with Xiao Wu and the others.
Based on the information provided by Jiang Chuan, Chen Wei quickly found the room.
Disguised as hotel housekeeping staff, Chen Wei knocked on the door.
A moment later, a rejection filled with curses came from inside:
“Not needed, get lost.”
Xiao Wu turned to look at Chen Wei, asking with his eyes what they should do next.
Chen Wei didn’t speak. He just put on a housekeeping accent again and knocked on the door once more.
As expected, a curse came from inside:
“I said I don’t need it. Are you f*cking deaf?”
Chen Wei didn’t respond and knocked on the door for a third time.
Finally, at the fifth knock, accompanied by the impatient swearing from inside, the sound of footsteps gradually approached the door.
Chen Wei gave Xiao Wu a look, and Xiao Wu immediately understood his meaning.
The two stood on either side of the door, poised and ready, just waiting for the person inside to open the door…
Click—
The moment he heard the sound, Chen Wei reacted very quickly and kicked the door hard.
The person inside had no time to react. Struck by Chen Wei’s kick, they lost their footing and fell back onto the floor.
The door swung wide open.
Without even glancing at the person on the floor, Chen Wei and Xiao Wu ran inside almost simultaneously.
Passing through the suite’s living room, the two headed straight for the bedroom inside.
Upon opening the door, the sight that met their eyes was Han Chi—kneeling on the floor, completely naked, his hands bound with rope, and several distinct red whip marks on his back.
Chen Wei was shocked.
He quickly ran to the bed, grabbed a blanket, and then rushed to Han Chi’s side as fast as he could, covering his body with the blanket.
Han Chi looked up in shock.
The moment he saw Chen Wei, an expression of disbelief and wonder instantly surged onto his originally dejected face.
Han Chi blinked, “Xiao Wei, you…”
“Who are you guys!?? You aren’t housekeeping!?”
A questioning and angry voice filled with doubt rang out from behind them at the same time.
Chen Wei turned around, narrowing his eyes as he looked at the Zhang Chen before him.
He was just about to stand up.
Han Chi quickly pulled him back.
“Xiao Wei, don’t…”
By offending Zhang Chen, Chen Wei would likely have a hard time in the company in the future.
After last night, Han Chi finally understood.
The current Zhang Chen and Xu Cheng had already secretly colluded with each other, being of the same “filthy ilk.”
Even if he had rejected Xu Cheng’s proposal, Xu Cheng would have found another way to send him to Zhang Chen before he left the company.
Xu Cheng introduced the company’s artists to Zhang Chen, and then Zhang Chen acted as a middleman to set up situations and introduce the company’s artists to the bosses and directors of other companies.
The artists obtained the resources they wanted with their bodies, and Zhang Chen used the artists’ sacrifices to please his superiors and win more business for himself.
The only blame lay in the fact that he and Chen Wei hadn’t returned to the company much in the past two years and were completely ignorant of what was happening there.
If he had known about these rotten affairs earlier, he definitely wouldn’t have agreed to Xu Cheng’s proposal.
After all, such a well-formed invisible industrial chain was something even the “police uncles” might not be able to handle.
Artists were brainwashed by managers and voluntarily entered into relationships with people for the sake of fame.
Being naive and ignorant of the world, they were photographed and used as leverage to threaten and manipulate. In the end, even if they knew they had suffered a loss, they could only swallow their teeth and keep it to themselves.
But Chen Wei couldn’t stomach this.
He gave Xiao Wu a look.
Xiao Wu sensibly walked to his side and took Han Chi from his hands.
Helping Han Chi to a chair on the side and untying the rope on his hands, he began to look for Han Chi’s clothes.
By now, even if Zhang Chen were a fool, he knew the person in front of him had come with ill intent.
He opened his mouth, wanting to shout for people from the next room.
Chen Wei was quick-eyed and quick-handed, landing a punch on his face before he could.
Zhang Chen clutched his face and let out a cry of pain.
“You’re lookin’ for—”
Before the word “death” could escape his lips, another punch landed squarely on his face.
Chen Wei’s hands didn’t stop, and the room was filled with Zhang Chen’s wailing cries of agony.
With Xiao Wu’s help, Han Chi finished dressing.
Zhang Chen was beaten by Chen Wei until he lay on the floor, unconscious.
It wasn’t until Chen Wei and the others left that Zhang Chen reacted to what had just happened.
Realizing he had been played, Zhang Chen ignored the pain in his body and ran quickly to the bedside to pick up his phone.
After fumbling with it for a moment, he found someone’s number and dialed it.
The three of them left the hotel and headed straight for the hospital.
After the doctor’s examination confirmed that there were no other issues with Han Chi, Chen Wei finally felt at ease.
The more troublesome part was the few red marks on Han Chi’s body left by the whip.
At Chen Wei’s repeated insistence, the doctor gave Han Chi an anti-inflammatory IV drip.
Sitting by the hospital bed, Chen Wei didn’t speak, just kept his eyes on Han Chi.
Han Chi couldn’t bear the gaze any longer and could only take the initiative to recount the stupid things he had done, word for word.
After parting with Chen Wei yesterday, he had called Xu Cheng.
Over the phone, he had agreed to Xu Cheng’s proposal.
But he had only one condition: that after he left the company, the company was not allowed to make things difficult for Chen Wei.
That old fox, Xu Cheng, had agreed readily over the phone, but in reality, it was just to trick him into going to a large gathering that night.
The gathering was hosted by Zhang Chen, and he had seen many of the company’s artists and managers there.
At this point, Chen Wei suddenly spoke up and interrupted his words.
“Jiang Chuan was there too?”
Hearing Jiang Chuan’s name, Han Chi was clearly stunned, “How did you know?”
After a long silence, Chen Wei explained:
“It was Jiang Chuan who called and told me your location. That’s how I was able to get to the hotel in time to save you.”
As Chen Wei finished speaking, the air fell into a strange silence.
After a long time, Han Chi shifted uncomfortably, looking awkward:
“Maybe he finally figured things out, felt he owed me, and wanted to compensate me through this—it’s hard to say.”
Chen Wei looked up, “What do you mean?”
Han Chi said, “Do you remember the time Zhang Chen specifically asked for Jiang Chuan to sleep with him, and I refused?”
Chen Wei nodded.
Of course he remembered. If it weren’t for Jiang Chuan, Han Chi wouldn’t have offended Zhang Chen and ended up in this situation.
Han Chi laughed and poked fun at himself:
“Believe it or not, Jiang Chuan actually held a grudge against me for that. He felt I was obstructing his path to development, and that’s why he defected from me…”
Chen Wei: “…”
He had seen people with a screw loose, but he had never seen someone actively push themselves into a dead end.
Given Jiang Chuan’s development momentum in the entertainment industry at the time, with Han Chi managing things behind the scenes, he didn’t need to trade his body at all.
As long as he was willing to work steadily for two years to hone his acting skills, he would have naturally had a place in the entertainment industry by then.
Han Chi continued:
“After leaving me, Jiang Chuan’s new manager was afraid he would pull another stunt of betraying his former master, so they didn’t pay much attention to him.
Once the fame of the Best Newcomer Award faded, Jiang Chuan felt a sense of disparity. His manager didn’t care about him, so he had no choice but to take the initiative to find Zhang Chen.”
Having said that, Han Chi looked up to see Chen Wei’s reaction.
Chen Wei pieced something together from his strange expression, but he wasn’t sure:
“Could it be that Zhang Chen has some unknown quirk?”
Han Chi’s eyes brightened suddenly, and then he gave him a thumbs up with a look of admiration, not skimping on his praise:
“As expected of you.”
“…”
Was this really something worth bragging about?
Rubbing his nose and meeting Han Chi’s gaze, Chen Wei let out an awkward cough.
Eventually, unable to suppress the curiosity in his heart, he followed up with a question:
“What quirk?”
Han Chi looked at him, laughing with a sly expression: “Double short—does that count as a quirk?”
Chen Wei: “…”
He already regretted asking that question.
“Then you…?” He looked at Han Chi.
Han Chi immediately understood his meaning and waved his hand dismissively to explain:
“It’s just that they’ve been gathering and hosting parties night and day for the past two years without restraint. His body was hollowed out, and ‘double short’ successfully evolved into ‘impotence’.”
Chen Wei raised an eyebrow, “So you…”
Han Chi: “I’m fine. I just took a few extra whip strikes, that’s all.”
After all, for someone like Zhang Chen, he would definitely want to find a way to compensate for his physical deficiencies from somewhere else.
And so, abusing people became his way of venting.
Especially someone like Jiang Chuan who had taken the initiative to find Zhang Chen—without a doubt, he must have suffered plenty of abuse and humiliation at Zhang Chen’s hands in private.
Chen Wei continued to ask: “So Jiang Chuan told you all this personally?”
Han Chi nodded, “When I saw Jiang Chuan at the banquet yesterday, he was being touched all over by several old men.”
