Chapter 109: Who Is Responsible to This Extent?
After dinner, Ye Zhile lay on the sofa watching TV. There were washed strawberries by his hand, and he popped one into his mouth.
“Zhile.”
“Hm?” Ye Zhile sat up. Seeing Ji Shuohan trying to get out of bed, he hurriedly went over to help him. “Why are you getting out of bed?”
“To use the bathroom.” Ji Shuohan put his arm around Ye Zhile’s shoulder, though he didn’t put his weight on him. Ye Zhile looked up at him, puzzled.
Ji Shuohan found the person in his arms both silly and cute. He couldn’t help but chuckle and leaned down to kiss his forehead.
Ye Zhile’s face heated up. He carefully supported Ji Shuohan into the bathroom. Standing by the toilet, Ye Zhile hadn’t left yet, just standing there blankly. Ji Shuohan teased him, “You want to watch?”
“……” Ye Zhile was shy and angry. “Watch your big head!”
Ye Zhile fled in a panic.
When he heard the sound of the flush, Ye Zhile went back in to help him out.
The environment of the private hospital was quiet; no noise could be heard. Ye Zhile was preparing to cover himself with a small blanket and sleep on the sofa when Ji Shuohan suddenly asked him, “Have you been sleeping on the sofa these past few days?”
“Yeah.” Seeing the shock and heartache in Ji Shuohan’s eyes, Ye Zhile sat up and said, “Sleeping on the sofa is actually okay. It’s quite soft, just a bit narrow.”
“Come here,” Ji Shuohan called him.
Ye Zhile walked over and sat on the bed. “What is it?”
“Sleep on the bed.” As he spoke, Ji Shuohan carefully moved to make space.
“But I’m afraid of hitting your wound,” Ye Zhile hesitated.
“It’s fine; you won’t hit it.” Ji Shuohan pulled him down to lie beside him. Ye Zhile obeyed. Ji Shuohan covered him with the quilt. “Sleep.”
Ye Zhile didn’t dare move much. He lay perfectly straight with his hands folded on his chest. Before Ji Shuohan woke up, he hadn’t slept very well. Now that his heart was completely at ease, he fell asleep shortly after.
In the middle of the night, the pain from the wound began to flare up. Ji Shuohan woke up from the pain and gasped. Ye Zhile heard it and opened his eyes dizzily. “What’s wrong?”
“It’s nothing. Go back to sleep,” Ji Shuohan said softly.
Ye Zhile sat up. He reached out and felt the fine sweat on Ji Shuohan’s forehead. “Is the wound hurting?”
“A little.” Ji Shuohan gripped his hand. “Don’t worry. Sleep.”
Ye Zhile shook his head and released his pheromones. The fresh and sweet scent of freesias immediately surrounded Ji Shuohan, seemingly alleviating his pain.
Ye Zhile leaned beside him. The Omega’s face was flushed from sleep, and his eyes were watery and moist. He stared at Ji Shuohan’s lips. Saliva could also secrete pheromones, and they were even more effective.
With this thought, Ye Zhile leaned down and kissed Ji Shuohan’s lips.
The moment the warm and soft lips covered his, Ji Shuohan froze, seemingly not expecting this. This seemed to be the first time the Omega had initiated a kiss. But what followed shocked Ji Shuohan even more—the moist and soft little tongue cautiously probed inside…
Ji Shuohan took the initiative, his large hand supporting the back of Ye Zhile’s head.
“Mmph!” Ye Zhile couldn’t breathe. He pushed himself up from the bed, his face flushed. “Does it still hurt?”
“It hurts…” Ji Shuohan frowned. Ye Zhile could tell at a glance he was faking and glared at him. “Then just keep hurting!”
Ji Shuohan smiled and pulled the person into his arms. Fearing he might hit the wound, Ye Zhile carefully leaned into the crook of his arm and fell asleep snuggled against him.
Ji Shuohan’s wound healed very quickly, and he was discharged from the hospital a week later. Ye Zhile felt that an Enigma’s constitution was truly something—being able to be discharged so soon after a gunshot wound.
New Year’s had passed; it was another New Year they couldn’t spend together. Last year, Ye Zhile had spent it in the ICU, and this year, he had spent it with Ji Shuohan in a coma.
As the year began, everyone gradually became busy. After returning from the hospital, Ji Shuohan went into the study to handle work for the Shouling-bu. Ye Zhile was downstairs playing with Dudu. Watching Dudu walk like a little penguin made him and the nanny nearby laugh.
“Dinner’s ready.” Ye Zhile knocked on the study door and poked his head in. Seeing this, Ji Shuohan put down his documents and walked out. “Okay.”
Ji Shuohan put his arm around Zhile’s shoulder as they headed downstairs. “Is it boring staying at home?”
“It’s okay,” Ye Zhile said. “I’m starting school in a few days anyway.”
“Sorry I haven’t had time to accompany you.” Ji Shuohan looked at him with guilt.
Ye Zhile pursed his lips. “It’s fine. You’re busy.”
Actually, the youth was a bit unhappy. Previously, Ji Shuohan had been busy all the time and neglected him, occasionally finding a moment to say a few words of concern, which would make him very happy because he felt Daren liked him. After knowing the truth, even though Ji Shuohan liked him now, he still felt sad.
Thinking of this, Ye Zhile’s eyes grew moist. He lowered his head, avoiding Ji Shuohan’s gaze.
“Zhile?” Ji Shuohan leaned down to look at him. Seeing the Omega’s tears fall, he immediately cupped his face and coaxed, “I’m sorry. I was wrong before. You can hit me or scold me, just don’t be sad, okay?”
Ye Zhile looked up. “That day, when I asked if you liked me right now, you said you’d always like Baby. Was that true or were you just placating me?”
“It’s true,” Ji Shuohan said, his thumb wiping away Ye Zhile’s tears. “Are you doubting those words because of how I acted after my memory loss?”
“Yes,” Ye Zhile said. “Ji Shuohan, are you sure you truly like me, and it’s not just responsibility?”
“Who would be responsible to this extent?” Ji Shuohan countered.
“Who knows?” Ye Zhile said righteously. “What if you’re just that capable? Controlling your own heart and speaking sweet words so effortlessly—it’s hard not to be suspicious.”
Ji Shuohan put his hands on his hips. Facing the Omega’s reasoned words, he smiled helplessly. “I’ve really never heard of anyone who can force themselves to like someone. Then tell me, if I’m begging for your forgiveness just out of responsibility, what would be the point?”
To show he was a responsible and capable man? But since his memory loss, he had been a bastard with no responsibility. If it were for the harmony between the Military and the Leader’s Department, he would care even less. Ye Junting had worked diligently for years and contributed greatly to the Empire; while he loved his son, he would also consider the citizens of the Empire.
He simply remembered the bastard things he had done, remembered the beautiful past, and wanted to chase the Omega back to his side. That was all.
“I—how should I know!” Ye Zhile glared at him. Ji Shuohan pinched his cheek. “Then since you can’t argue back, my point stands.”
“???” Ye Zhile’s face said ‘you’re just twisting logic.’ He gave an angry hmph and walked away.
Ji Shuohan was about to go coax him when Dudu suddenly hugged his leg. “Baba!”
Ji Shuohan picked up the little tot, kissed his cheek, and sat him by the dining table. He turned Dudu toward Ye Zhile. “Mama is angry with Papa. Quickly, coax him.”
“Mama!”
