Chapter 95: Once Marriage is Mentioned, You Chicken Out
Uncle Guo had deliberately looked for a nearby residential complex when renting an apartment for Shou Jiaxun, so the drive between the two places was less than ten minutes.
Thus, while Shou Jiaxun was still in the middle of his shower after making the call, Guo Ran arrived at the door, bringing a box of gland care patches with him.
Shou Jiaxun emerged from the bathroom wrapped in a bathrobe. When he saw what was in the other manâs hand, his swollen eyes and eyebrows squeezed toward the center of his face. “The skin is broken, and I still have to put a patch on?”
Uncle Guo held up the small box for him to see. “These are care patches. You only use them when the skin is broken, to prevent infection.”
“…He really is poisonous.” Shou Jiaxun used one hand to support his neck, complaining while turning his head to glare at Liang Bo.
Uncle Guo gave a self-deprecating laugh, acting as a mediator. “Stop embarrassing him, okay?”
Liang Bo whispered his grievance to his elder, “He also said Iâm a five-step snake in human form.”
“Pffftâ” This time, even Uncle Guo couldn’t hold back his laughter.
Then, he stepped forward to inspect the gland on the back of Shou Jiaxunâs neck. “Oh… itâs swollen. Itâll take a day or two to go down. Letâs get a patch on you first.”
Shou Jiaxun pulled a pair of underwear out of the wardrobe. In front of his uncle and his husband, he turned his back to pull them on, and then immediately lay down on the sofa like a dying man. “Uncle… I want to eat noodles with gravy.”
Uncle Guo asked, “Do you have any groceries in the house?”
“No.”
“Iâll go buy some right now.” Liang Bo immediately volunteered. Before leaving, he took the time to grab a set of T-shirt and shorts and placed them by the bed. “Change into your clothes first. The bathrobe is damp; be careful not to catch a cold if you wear it for too long.”
Shou Jiaxun tilted his head and didn’t say a word, his face the picture of misery.
Once Liang Bo left, Uncle Guo sat on the other end of the sofa with a slight frown. “Did you go into heat yesterday?”
Shou Jiaxun sighed deeply. “Originally I didn’t, but after he teased me a bit, it seemed I did.”
Uncle Guo pursed his lips, his expression a bit surprised. “That means you have a pretty big reaction to him… Since you’re having another child this time, you have to keep it, right?”
Shou Jiaxun continued to sigh. “Iâll keep it.”
“Then when do you plan to talk to him about getting married?”
As Uncle Guo spoke, he couldn’t help but click his tongue in frustration, frowning in complaint. “Tell me, wouldn’t it have been better if youâd just done it last time! Now itâs only a difference of a month or so. If you could have thought a bit more clearly last time, the wedding would be over by now.”
“Who could have known?”
Guo Ran retorted, “What do you mean ‘who could have known’? Both Duoyu and I think heâs good; itâs just you who has so much sh*t to deal with.”
Shou Jiaxun closed his eyes, squeezing his swollen, puffy eyelids hard. “Fine, Iâm being difficult, okay? I really feel terrible right now, like I have food poisoning.”
“Thatâs for sure! If you went and hauled fruit for a night, youâd be like this tooâphysical exhaustion. You might even have a fever for a couple of days.”
Uncle Guo was someone who had been through it, and his perspective was very sharp.
“Sigh!” Shou Jiaxunâs expression was conflicted. “Uncle, I want to move back.”
Guo Ran thought about it and shook his head. “Don’t move back. Let Little Liang take care of you.”
President Shou was mournful. “Why? …Uncle, did you tear down my room, or are you secretly dating someone? Why can’t I even go home?”
Uncle Guo raised his eyebrows with a smile. “If you come home, Iâll be the one taking care of your food and drink; what would be left for him to do?
Since the two of you are going to get married, shouldn’t you be together properly and cultivate your feelings alone?”
“No, thatâs not right. I feel like you’re abandoning me, Uncle…” Shou Jiaxun had a face like a bitter melon.
Uncle Guo had no choice but to compromise. “Fine, fine. You can come back and stay for a couple of days first.”
Then he stood up and called Liang Bo. “Don’t buy groceries; go straight to my place. Iâll go home and boil noodles for you two.”
Liang Bo had just entered the supermarket when he received the new instructions, switching from buying groceries to buying cooked deli meats. By the time he arrived at Guo Ranâs house with several bags of braised goods, Guo Ran was already wearing an apron in the kitchen, simmering the noodle gravy and boiling the noodles.
Although Shou Jiaxunâs body was lying flat on the bed as if resting, his mouth was still working.
Liang Bo sat quietly beside him for two minutes. Hearing him talk about some advertising cooperation, he leaned in and used mouth shapes to ask, “Who is it?”
Shou Jiaxun looked over and covered the microphone to answer his little boyfriend, “Yong Ming. Go help Uncle cook; Iâll be done in a second.”
When President Shou said “in a second” while occupied with work, there was no telling how long it would be. It could be three minutes, or it could be half an hour. When he said “in a second,” he mostly meant for the other person not to bother him.
Anyway, Liang Bo was driven out. He shuffled back to the kitchen and took the initiative to help Guo Ran slice the braised meat and plate it.
Uncle Guo was in a good mood, specifically putting a few cans of beer into the fridge to chill. While stirring the noodle gravy in the pot, he told Liang Bo, “Jiaxun said if he gets pregnant this time, heâll marry you and give birth to the child properly.”
He thought Liang Bo would be ecstatic at this news, but the young man only froze for a moment before lowering his head to continue slicing the meat.
Uncle Guo was puzzled. “Whatâs wrong? Not happy, or just stunned by joy?”
Liang Bo put down the kitchen knife and began arranging the meat slices on the plate, his face sullen as he muttered in a small voice, “He didn’t say it sooner… I thought he didn’t want a child, so I wore a condom toward the end yesterday.”
Guo Ran didn’t know whether to laugh or cry as he reached out and slapped him on the back. “Are you stupid? Is that the point? The point is heâs recognized you and is willing to marry you. If you didn’t conceive yesterday, there’s always tomorrow. If not tomorrow, you’ll definitely get him pregnant the next time he’s in heat.
The key is that heâs already let you mark him. The only thing missing between you two is a marriage certificate.
What I mean is, you should hurry up and prepare to propose again, okay?”
Only then did Liang Bo seem to wake from a dream, his eyebrows raising and his eyes widening. “Oh, right, right, right! Iâll prepare a proposal. I have to prepare properly this time!”
Uncle Guo was happy for them, his face beaming with a smile. He casually talked to Liang Bo about Shou Jiaxunâs living habits, saying he was a typical “low-desire” human who was very easy to raise; if he stayed up late, just a bowl of noodles with some prepared sauce from the pantry would suffice.
But Liang Bo had to put more heart into helping him look after those “battle robes” (suits), because each set was very expensive.
Also, although Shou Jiaxun didn’t love meat, he was very fond of fish, shrimp, crabs, and shellfish. “In the future, when you take him on trips, picking a place by the sea will definitely be the right choice.”
And: “Neither of you eat spicy food, so you’ll definitely get along.”
Liang Bo gradually began to feel lightheaded, as if he and Shou Jiaxun had already entered the marriage hall and started a brand-new life.
Unfortunately, it only took a few minutes for him to be pulled back to earth by a new decision from Shou Jiaxun.
While eating, Shou Jiaxun said directly to Uncle Guo, ” I still feel itâs more comfortable living here. Uncle, help me cancel the lease on that apartment I rented.”
Uncle Guo nodded and said okay, but his eyes darted toward Liang Bo. Liang Bo was completely lost, and he tentatively suggested, “Then Iâll help you move back later… How about you move into that school-district apartment of ours? Itâs also quite close.”
Shou Jiaxun curled his lip. “At your place… parking is a real pain. Itâs better at my uncleâs.”
Liang Boâs expression was both disappointed and confused as he looked pitifully at Uncle Guo.
Guo Ran was also completely baffled. He put down his chopsticks and stared at President Shou. “Wait… you, you… you…”
Shou Jiaxun was amused by his awkward appearance. “What about me?”
Uncle Guo raised his eyebrows and glanced at Liang Bo.
Shou Jiaxun gave two laughs. “Alright, alright, I know. Marriage, children. Once Iâm done with this busy period, Iâll definitely give you both an ‘account’ before the end of the year, okay?”
Uncle Guo frowned and complained, “No, can you speak properly? Is this a matter of giving someone an ‘account’?
Little Liang has been with you for so long. One moment you’re living together, the next you’re marking each other, and you almost even had a child. Why is it that as soon as marriage is mentioned, you chicken out? Are you a snail or a turtle!
What exactly do you mean? Can you just say it clearly once and for all?”
