Chapter 97: See Him, One Little Red Flower for Every Step
In the vast, silent underground parking lot of the Fanrong headquarters, the sound of measured footsteps suddenly echoed.
During working hours in an office building, the garage was naturally deserted, so even the light footsteps of a single person seemed somewhat abrupt.
The person emerged from the executive elevator lobby and headed straight for the VIP parking area, soon coming to a halt in front of a large black SUV. He raised a hand and knocked on the window: Knock, knock.
The window rolled down, revealing a face marked by a hint of nervousness. He called out softly to the man outside, “Dad.”
Then he asked, “Is the signing finished?”
The older man outside the car frowned. “I thought you would have gone up just now.”
The young Alpha inside the car shook his head. “Wait a little longer. Itās not the time yet.”
The older man outside sighed deeply, scolding him in a low voice, “You keep hiding and hiding… Iām telling you, you can hide for a while, but you canāt hide for a lifetime. Do you really plan to be Liang Bo forever?”
Liang Taotao ducked his head and stammered, “We agreed that once he finishes signing the contract, weāll go out and travel for a while to relax; then weāll come back and get our certificate before the end of the year.”
His father knit his brows and scoffed, “Then youād better be careful. Donāt let the cat out of the bag these next two months. It would be best if you could get him pregnant quickly to tie him down.”
Liang Bo nodded, looking toward the future as if murmuring to himself, “He likes looking at the sea and eating seafood, so I plan to pick a place in Bohai Bay with good scenery to buy him a beachfront villa. Itās only a two-hour drive from the capital…”
“Regardless, just accompany him well.” Ye Zun interrupted his son before he could finish. “Donāt let him get so upset that he goes and jumps into the sea.”
Liang Bo shook his head repeatedly. “He won’t, that’s impossible. He lived too exhaustingly before, smothered by work every day, so busy he lost himself.
He needs a chance to restructure his life, you understand?”
His father raised a hand to pinch the bridge of his nose. “Iām not him; I don’t know how much he loves you… maybe you’re right. Sigh!“
The older Omega let out a heavy sigh. “Anyway, good luck to you. Youāre my own flesh and blood, after all.
I hope Iāll be holding a grandson next year, rather than drinking with you while listening to how you got dumped.”
His son nodded solemnly. “Don’t worry, I can definitely handle this. You should go back; theyāll be coming down soon.”
On the third floor of the Fanrong headquarters, inside the office of the Group COO, Shou Jiaxun wordlessly put down Liang Taotaoās family portrait. He looked up at Liang Yu, who was sitting opposite him and Uncle Guo, brewing tea for them. “Your family seems exceptionally harmonious at a glance.”
Liang Yu nodded. “Our family is quite traditional; we place great value on harmony and unity.”
Shou Jiaxun gave a faint smile and murmured in agreement, “Thatās nice.” As he spoke, he slowly stood up.
Guo Ran thought he was leaving and began to stand as well, but before he could straighten up, Shou Jiaxun pressed down on his shoulder. “Iām going to the restroom. Uncle, wait for me a moment.”
Liang Yu put down his teacup and stood to see him to the door. “Walk straight for twenty meters to the left; the restroom is on your right.”
Shou Jiaxun nodded and walked quickly in that direction.
The greatest advantage of a large company with its own standalone office building was that everything could be made a bit larger. The restroom was spacious with a reasonable layout, and queues or congestion were rare.
Shou Jiaxun was uncomfortable, mainly because he had been triggered by Liang Yuās family portrait. His heart rate had spiked, making him want to use the restroom, and a fire in his throat made him feel nauseous.
Now his stomach hurt and his abdomen cramped; it felt very much like acute gastroenteritis.
He ran the last few steps, pushed open the door, and rushed into a stall.
The restroom was originally empty, but after Shou Jiaxun locked the stall, two other male Omegas entered. After relieving themselves, they chatted while washing their hands.
One said, “That new Manager Yu-heng is really going to be the death of me. Five days of work a week, and at least three days of overtime. Heās like heās on chicken blood every day. Iām going to apply for a transfer; I seriously canāt keep up with that ‘great god’s’ pace.”
The other said, “Are you talking about that Creative Director poached from ‘Guoran Loves You Very Much’? Youāre working under him now?”
The first one scoffed. “Exactly! My luck is just the worst.”
“Heh…” His companion gave a contemptuous snort. “Doesn’t he know our company poached them just to facilitate the acquisition of ‘Guoran’? If I were him, Iād just honestly enjoy the benefits and retire early. Why bother struggling… Tsk!”
The two discussed the gossip casually and quickly left the restroom after rinsing their hands. However, as they left, their eyes instinctively glanced toward Shou Jiaxunās stall.
Shou Jiaxun had one hand braced against the stall wall while his other hand clutched the fabric at his abdomen. He broke into a cold sweat, but nothing came out; he only ended up wrinkling the front of his high-end suit into a mess.
Uncle Guo was waiting in Liang Yuās office with a face full of gloom. Liang Yu diligently poured tea for him, but how could he drink it?
Seeing that Shou Jiaxun hadn’t returned for a while, he picked up the photo again to examine it and asked Liang Yu in a low voice, “When I came here before, why did I never see this photo?”
Liang Yu raised his eyebrows with a look of surprise. “Itās always been on the bookshelf; perhaps you didn’t notice it.”
Then he speculated, “The cleaners probably forgot to put it back in its place today.”
Uncle Guoās brows furrowed as he grew angrier the more he thought about it. He simply put down the photo and questioned, “Your nephew, Liang Taotao… is he really still studying abroad?”
Liang Yu nodded. “Of course. Have you seen him?”
Uncle Guo let out an indignant, low growl. “He came to work at our company in early June! He said his name was Liang Bo. He started as President Shouās special assistant, and then he made his rounds through the advertising and branding departments! What exactly is he trying to do?”
“No, no, don’t get excited.” Liang Yu raised both hands in a calming gesture. “Calm down. Perhaps he just wanted to find a place for an internship; I don’t think he had any bad intentions.”
Uncle Guo was filled with righteous indignation as he struck at the heart of the matter. “He was there to write that acquisition agreement that plays both sides!”
Liang Yu gave an awkward, smiling shrug. “Thatās not necessarily bad! Don’t you think we have a win-win situation now? Perhaps Taotao was trying to help you? Other investors might not have offered better acquisition terms than Fanrong, right?”
…
When Shou Jiaxun emerged from the restroom, he was no longer able to stand straight. His footsteps were heavy and dragging; one hand clutched his stomach while the other braced against the wall as he slowly shuffled back.
When he was still a dozen meters from Liang Yuās office, he truly couldn’t walk any further. Trembling, he pulled out his phone and called Guo Ran for help. “Uncle… my stomach hurts. Come out and get me.”
At that moment, several Fanrong employees came toward him. Upon seeing Shou Jiaxun, they suddenly cried out in alarm, screaming and jumping to the other side of the corridor as if Shou Jiaxun were a monster.
Someone shouted, “My God… why is he bleeding so much?”
Someone was already dialing a number on their phone. “Is this the emergency center? Iām at the Fanrong headquarters. Someone is bleeding a lot and needs rescue!”
Shou Jiaxun could no longer stand. From the restroom door to his feet, a long trail of bloody footprints had been dragged out, and the flow seemed to be increasing.
He clutched his stomach and slowly crouched down. Then, his ankle gave way, and his body curled up like a shrimp as he collapsed onto the floor.
Translator’s Note: The most painful journey is the one paved with someone else’s schemes. “One little red flower for every step” (äøę„äøęµå°ē“ č±) is a tragic metaphor for the drops of blood Shou Jiaxun leaves behind. Also, “Chicken blood” (ęéč”) is a Chinese slang term for being hyper-energetic or overly enthusiastic, often used for obsessive workers. The betrayal here is multilayeredānot just emotional, but professional.
