Chapter 37: That is “Mommy”… (Second Update)
When Shen Zejue left, his receding back exuded a huffing, indignant vibe.
Shen Lin returned to the small castle and, with a press of his space button, a pile of items stacked like a small mountain appeared.
Today was another day of returning with a full load, heh~
Since obtaining the space button, Shen Lin had abandoned his previous treasure-hiding spots. No place was more convenient than carrying it with him.
It was clearly a space button meant for high-grade weapons, yet the cub had cleared out space specifically for his collection.
As for the weapons, they had all been tossed into a corner by the cub to gather dust.
Inside the little cub’s space button were many high-grade weapons: small-scale, large-scale, holographic mechanical controls, manual controls, and even a spaceship.
Except for starships and military combat ships, his space almost encompassed every weapon that should exist in the interstellar era.
After the cub was tested to have a weak bloodline, Big Brother Shen began investing massive resources into mechanists to create lethal weapons, utilizing merchant fleets to ship common weaponry from the border star to the main star.
Originally, the protective weapons Big Brother Shen gave the cub were already enough for him to blast through a planet.
When Second Sister Shen saw the list, she felt it was insufficient and added more to it.
Out of gratitude for the cub saving his life and deep-seated guilt, Father Shen looked at the list his two children had prepared and found a long list of extremely lethal weapons at the end.
After some thought, he took half of the collection from his own armory and stuffed it in for the cub.
This one added a bit, that one stuffed a bit, and over time, the accumulated combat supplies grew more and more.
The mechanical master took one look.
Heh~
Fine then. He worked through the night to expand the original space button by twofold, barely managing to fit the high-grade weapons the others had added.
Shen Lin wasn’t interested in weapons; his heart was only set on food.
He didn’t feel that those weapons would bring him much of a sense of security; he always only believed in his own abilities.
However, if he encountered an enemy he disliked but didn’t necessarily want to kill, he could take them out to play with.
Shen Lin began his daily activity of counting his collection.
Tarriel, who was not short on money, accompanied him, buying everything the cub took a fancy to.
In just a few days, the cub’s small private vault filled up rapidly.
Some items he previously thought were decent were moved out; as long as it wasn’t food, it was all tossed aside.
While Shen Lin tossed, A’mei picked them up.
Flowers, plants, trees, inconspicuous weeds, or even a discarded screw—all were carefully collected by A’mei and made into various interesting ornaments.
These were all produced under the little cub’s guidance.
Now, a specific wall in the cub’s room was used to build a cabinet for these ornaments.
At first glance, it looked like entering a junkyard.
But upon closer inspection, the shape of every ornament was different.
Rough styles, exquisite styles, wild and unconstrained styles, desert survival styles… they were diverse. Passing by each piece, you would see a different stylistic design.
In particular, a miniature steel forest made of discarded screws caught Shen Zejue’s eye the first time he entered the cub’s room, and he shamelessly wanted one of the same.
Shen Lin grew impatient from the pestering and had A’mei guide the head maid at Shen Zejue’s side, letting her try to make one.
Once the matter was thrown off his hands, Shen Lin ignored it.
The reason Shen Zejue was pestering the cub this time was to see if any new exhibits had appeared in the cub’s room; he wanted to replicate them one by one.
He was the little chubby cub’s brother; they were naturally meant to “wear the same pair of pants.”
What was wrong with just making an identical ornament cabinet to match the cub?
Shen Lin counted his collection one by one. Looking at the piles of supplies, he nodded in satisfaction.
If he were to roam the planet, these resources would be sufficient.
Tarriel was truly good to him, giving him whatever he wanted.
He had previously made a point to sense Tarriel’s emotions and found that the other party had no ill intent; he simply wanted to spend money on him.
It was the first time Shen Lin had seen a stranger sincerely spend money on him. Beyond being moved, he was not soft-handed in taking things.
He planned to ask Tarriel if he had any wishes he wanted to fulfill immediately.
For example, helping his mother “get treated,” or killing his Papa…
As long as it was within his power, he would definitely help.
If it exceeded his ability, then he was sorry—Tarriel would just have to wait a bit longer.
Once he grew up and had the capability, he would repay him.
Don’t ask why the cub spoke of killing as simply as drinking water.
After living for three years in the apocalypse where everyone was a villain, and being raised by monsters, Shen Lin could not be judged like an ordinary cub.
Shen Zexi’s work had reached a stopping point. She rubbed her stiff neck and glanced at the time on the pre-ancient pendulum clock on the wall.
She planned to go see the cub.
She hadn’t seen this little cub for a few days and missed him quite a bit.
Shen Zexi put on her coat and walked toward the small castle.
Just as she reached the door of the cub’s room, she startled A’mei, who was sleeping on a small couch in the outer room.
Because the young master liked to play around, and had previously slipped out during his nap when no one was looking only to return with red eyes, A’mei decided to set up a small bed in the outer room to check on the young master’s situation at all times.
Though it was useless—the young master would still go missing when he should—it at least gave A’mei a sliver of psychological self-comfort.
A’mei saluted and was about to speak when Shen Zexi waved her hand to interrupt.
A’mei withdrew.
Shen Zexi lightened her steps and pushed open the door gently.
Originally, she intended to just take a look at the cub and leave.
Resulting in the door opening and meeting a pair of energetic big eyes.
Snack wrappers were scattered outside the nest, and the nest itself was piled high with various unopened snack bags.
Hearing the commotion, the cub turned his head to look. The corners of his mouth were still stained with snack crumbs.
The moment the cub saw Second Sister Shen, he guiltily hid the snack bags behind his back and grinned, revealing a sweet smile.
Second Sister Shen: “…”
Ten minutes later.
The trash in the room was swept clean.
The room became bright once again.
Shen Zexi’s slender fingers held a bag of milk cheese sticks, tossing them into the large box held by the servant behind her.
“Confiscated.”
Shen Lin stood honestly against the base of the wall. Hearing that his snacks were confiscated, he looked up at his second sister with pleading eyes, hoping she would change her mind.
Shen Zexi remained unmoved. She took the wet towel handed over by a servant to wipe the cub’s face and hands.
Shen Lin’s gaze followed the large box in the servant’s hands closely until the servant’s figure completely disappeared at the door.
He retracted his gaze in disappointment, his small face looking dejected.
Once the “dirty cub” was clean, Shen Zexi finally pinched his meat-filled cheek.
“You can’t eat too many snacks; it’s easy to get indigestion.”
“Not at all~”
Shen Lin pouted, thinking to himself: I have a stomach of iron; I won’t get indigestion no matter what I eat.
Shen Zexi acted as if she hadn’t heard.
Discovering there were still stains on the cub’s feet, she simply squatted down, holding the cub’s tender white feet and wiping them gently.
Once she was sure the cub was completely clean, she carried him toward the nest.
The nest had previously been made a mess by the cub, so Shen Zexi simply had the energy stones beneath the nest replaced.
She pulled up the small blanket and lay down beside the cub.
“Bingbing, it’s not that I won’t let you eat snacks, but there must be a limit. If you develop this habit, and in the future you have no bottom line in anything you do, won’t things become a mess?”
Using the gentlest words to discuss the most serious problem.
She was both like a sister and even more like a strict mother, giving the cub earnest guidance.
The cub’s small face was nestled in the blanket, showing a pitiful little look that caused Shen Zexi’s words to pause for a second, but she still insisted on finishing the rest of what she had to say.
She found that ever since the other three in the house had been boundlessly indulgent toward the cub and he had no restraints, his behavior had become quite willful.
When the cub was smaller, Shen Zexi had turned a blind eye.
Now that the cub was older and more aware, she didn’t plan to continue letting the child run wild.
Regardless of whether the future cub became a successful person or a profligate playboy, at the very least, his character shouldn’t be crooked.
If his character was raised crooked, it would not only harm the cub but also their family.
Shen Lin stared blankly at Shen Zexi, who was criticizing him like a “strict mother,” as if seeing the shadow of “02.”
In a daze, he blurted out: “Sec… Second Sis… Sister…”
Shen Zexi was also stunned. The smile in her eyes deepened as she touched the cub’s translucent and rosy small face and gave an mm.
She wasn’t relieved like Father Shen when he heard the cub call him “Ba-ba,” nor was she excited like Third Brother Shen.
She only gave a faint smile.
Likely accustomed to dealing with politicians and councilors, her facial expressions had to be managed perfectly; she couldn’t let others see even a hint of emotional change.
Even if she was happy inside, no extra expression would appear on her face.
“Go to sleep.”
Shen Lin snapped out of it and found that Second Sister Shen had misunderstood. He opened his mouth wanting to explain something, but in the end, said nothing.
Even if Shen Zexi was reserved, the cub was sensitive to emotions and naturally felt that she was happy for that moment.
Happy because of a title he used.
He suddenly felt a bit embarrassed.
He remembered the last time he called his third brother, his second sister was right beside him, looking at him with expectant eyes.
But at that time, his heart was entirely on the food, and he had subconsciously ignored her.
So much so that he only now called her “Second Sister.”
Because of the cub’s call of “Second Sister,” Shen Zexi felt the burden on her shoulders grew a bit heavier.
The cub’s small snoring sounded much like a lullaby.
Shen Zexi’s eyelids closed uncontrollably, and her breathing grew heavy.
Shen Lin opened his eyes. His eyes were clear; where was there even a hint of him being asleep?
Shen Zexi had rested beside the cub for a long time. She was used to his scent and had no defenses against him, so she didn’t notice he was faking sleep.
Shen Lin lay on his stomach in front of Shen Zexi, carefully studying her face.
Even after falling asleep, Shen Zexi’s brows were still habitually furrowed. Her stunningly beautiful face was as charming and dangerous as a siren from the deep sea.
Shen Lin’s fingertip emitted a segment of power, triggering the bloodline surge within Shen Zexi’s body. A layer of faint beast patterns appeared on her cheeks.
Patch after patch of black scales spread from her cheeks to her neck.
A massive snake tail emerged from behind her, occupying more than half of the nest.
The snake tail lacked the cruelty of the previous riot; it sought out the power and moved slowly, resting submissively on the cub’s shoulder.
The tip of the tail gently hooked the cub’s pink hair.
It seemed to be seeing a pink-haired cub for the first time, looking “curiously” and poking at it.
Shen Zexi’s human parts gradually faded: black scales, a black snake tail, and a massive body. A golden gem was inlaid on the black snake’s head; looking closely, it wasn’t a gem but a different-colored scale.
The next second, the golden scales flashed, and the snake head turned into a face covered in snake scales.
Without looking closely, one would think she was wearing a face mask.
Her black, shiny, and smooth long hair made a rustling sound.
Those were individual black snakes as thin as strands of hair, densely wriggling and twisting.
An unwatchable, indescribable creature that looked like a monster appeared before Shen Lin.
Not only did he not feel afraid, but his eyes turned red.
He cautiously reached out his hand to touch the slightly sluggish scales, and tears fell silently like pearls from a broken string.
He wondered why Second Sister’s snake tail looked so familiar; it turned out she was his kin.
Monster Sister “02.”
She was also the “Mommy” he had defaultly accepted in his heart.
