Part 4
Wei Xun stared at him intently, unsure if he was thinking about his words or had simply dazed out, until the beer in his hand was lightly clinked by Mu Jia Shu. He seemed to return to reality, smiled, and also finished his drink.
After Mu Jia Shu finished speaking, he couldn’t help but give a small yawn. Wei Xun had slept all afternoon plus half the night, but he was quite tired.
Wei Xun quickly put an arm around his shoulders: “Tired? It’s my fault for talking to you for so long. Go to sleep for a bit; we’ll talk about everything tomorrow.”
He spoke while getting off the bed to pull the curtains completely shut.
Wei Xun didn’t often stay in this small apartment, and there was only this one bed. Anyway, they weren’t outsiders, so the two of them squeezed together to sleep.
The two lay side-by-side on the bed. Mu Jia Shu soon fell asleep, but Wei Xun quietly turned on his side, his eyes watching him without blinking. He was very worried that once he woke up, Mu Jia Shu would be gone again.
Mu Jia Shu lay on the bed, his breathing steady and his expression gentle. Clearly, saying all this was a great release for him mentally.
Wei Xun watched him for a while, cautiously reaching out his hand, wanting to put his arm around his shoulder.
But just as his hand was about to fall, he remembered that Mu Jia Shu had always been a poor sleeper. He had been tired all day, and finally managed to get a peaceful sleep.
The hand that was originally going to be placed on his shoulder lowered instead, grasping a corner of his shirt.
Wei Xun held that piece of clothing firmly, and only after a long time did he slowly close his eyes.
When they went to sleep, it was already the early hours of the morning. Both of them woke up late the next day. Wei Xun opened his eyes and almost immediately remembered the events of last night. With a tense face, he looked to the side; Mu Jia Shu was clutching the quilt with his back to him, sleeping soundly.
The light of day was already up. Although blocked by thick curtains, compared to the faint haze of the night, everything was much clearer. Instead, it made the events of yesterday seem even more like a dream.
Wei Xun sat up and stared fixedly at his back, and for a moment, he actually felt a long-lost fear.
Mu Jia Shu was a light sleeper. At Wei Xun’s movement, he woke up. He rubbed his eyes and turned his head, also taking a moment to react.
“San Ge.” He gave a greeting, rolled over to sit up, and grabbed his phone to take a look. Twenty missed calls.
Mu Jia Shu: “…”
He raised his head, originally intending to say something else to Wei Xun, but found the other still staring at him: “…What’s wrong?”
Wei Xun said cautiously: “So is it really you who came back? Are you… afraid of the light?”
“Hmm?”
Mu Jia Shu remembered Wei Xun’s insistence on not turning on the lights yesterday and suddenly understood what he was saying. He didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. He originally wanted to poke fun at him, but seeing the other’s serious expression, his heart couldn’t help but feel a bit dazed.
He paused, got off the bed, and walked quickly to the window to pull the curtains open. The faint morning light bathed his body, outlining his elegant and jade-like silhouette.
He stood at the brightest point in front of the window and turned around, walking back toward Wei Xun. At this time, the sunlight should clearly be the most intense and beautiful of the day, yet draped in this dawn-colored glow, he seemed even more dazzling than the sunlight.
He bent down and hugged Wei Xun without hesitation: “San Ge, look, I’m back. I’m sorry… I’m sorry, it’s my fault for not telling you sooner.”
Feeling the other’s body temperature and this powerful embrace, Wei Xun finally believed that everything was real. Only now did his heart finally settle, and a smile appeared on his face.
He reached out and hugged him back fiercely: “It’s not your fault! It’s all my fault. I will never let you encounter danger again.”
The two brothers embraced tightly for a while until Mu Jia Shu’s phone, which had just been switched to ring mode, rang again. He pushed Wei Xun away slightly to look at the screen, and a half-smile appeared on his face. He looked at Wei Xun: “Are you serious?”
Wei Xun: “…Why are you smiling so mischievously. I’m telling you, every time you act like this, I have a particularly ominous feeling.”
Mu Jia Shu answered: “I was indeed thinking about how I should take revenge on you.”
Wei Xun: “?”
Mu Jia Shu didn’t explain to him, answering the phone himself. He only said a “Hello” at the start and then didn’t speak for a long while.
Wei Xun leaned toward him out of curiosity and heard a few sentences of the voice coming from the phone. His face changed slightly, and he suddenly snatched the phone directly from Mu Jia Shu’s hand: “Pang Xing, if you have something, just say it to me directly.”
Mu Jia Shu said in a low voice: “Is your phone out of battery?”
After taking Wei Xun away yesterday, Mu Jia Shu had already greeted Liang Pingzhao. But even though they knew he wasn’t in any serious trouble, Wei Xun’s status was ultimately different from others, and no one dared to take it lightly. Neither of them had gone to work on time this morning, and their phones were unreachable, which inevitably caused worry.
Among them, Pang Xing, the head of the security department, especially felt he had lost face. He simply called Mu Jia Shu directly and gave him a harsh scolding, but he didn’t expect Wei Xun to be right there listening clearly.
Mu Jia Shu listened to him being sharp-tongued and severe on the other end, treating it merely as background noise and not taking it seriously at all. Instead, Wei Xun immediately flared up.
Pang Xing’s voice suddenly dropped two octaves. He said something unknown. Wei Xun’s tone was very calm, but exceptionally cold: “Where I want to go and where I don’t want to go is not for you to manage. Even more so, the people by my side are not for others to say half a word about. Pang Xing, I’m putting it plainly today…”
Mu Jia Shu gave a dry cough beside him. Wei Xun paused, and his tone softened slightly: “In any case, pay attention in the future.”
He put down the phone. Mu Jia Shu said: “Why bother arguing with such a person, it’s beneath your status. Instead, blame me for telling you about this too early; your attitude toward him in the future still…”
Wei Xun already knew what Mu Jia Shu was going to advise him. He raised a hand to interrupt him: “Xiao Shu, if it were anything else, I would just put on an act with him, but this time I can’t. I can’t bear it. Anyway, I’ve dug into him for so long and haven’t found anything useful. All roads lead to Rome; I just won’t use him anymore.”
