Chapter 26: Interrogation
Mu Jia Shu couldn’t help but laugh and stood up: “Alright, as you wish. Let’s go, we have to go to work first… this is your first time being late, isn’t it, Boss?”
Wei Xun’s expression softened, and he also gave a smile. By the time the two reached the company, it was already close to noon. Huading had been founded for less than a year, and there were originally many things to do. Wei Xun hadn’t been to the company since yesterday afternoon, and as soon as he entered, he was surrounded by a pile of official business.
Mu Jia Shu was originally in the outer room of his office, but seeing people coming and going and his desk piled with documents, to avoid getting in the way, he retreated outside the CEO’s office.
His usual duty was to follow Wei Xun when he went out; once Wei Xun became busy, he became idle. Liang Pingzhao was still busy, and Pang Xing had just touched a raw nerve this morning, so he didn’t even bother to come over. With no one to mind him, Mu Jia Shu found an empty desk to sit at and used his phone to search the web.
After searching for a while, he felt a bit tired. He raised his head to stretch his neck and just happened to catch Wei Xun’s gaze. He froze for a moment.
Wei Xun was clearly very busy, walking hurriedly out of the office with a folder in his hand, standing at the door looking at him.
Mu Jia Shu thought he had something for him and had already stood up, but Wei Xun just gave him a look, waved his hand, and turned back into the office.
Mu Jia Shu was stunned, but Big Sister Zhao at the next desk suddenly burst out laughing.
Mu Jia Shu gave a polite smile: “Big Sister Zhao’s complexion and mood seem quite good today.”
Although he wasn’t a clerical worker, he had gotten along very well with the regular employees in the company during this time. Big Sister Zhao said with a smile: “I’m laughing at you. I just saw the Boss walk out several times, and each time he only gave a glance this way before leaving. I thought it was some serious matter and was so scared I closed my Taobao. It turns out the Boss was looking at you. People say a day apart feels like three years, but for the Boss, he can’t even go ten minutes without seeing you.”
Mu Jia Shu only reacted after her teasing. A different kind of emotion slowly surged in his heart, and this time, a truly sincere smile appeared on his lips.
Big Sister Zhao said: “I’ve heard about it! The Boss got into a car accident yesterday, and you were the one who saved him, right? Our Boss is an especially loyal and righteous person; it seems he treats you like a biological brother now. Hey, Xiao Shen, I’m going to have to ask to cling to your thigh now.”
Her colleague on the other side heard the two talking and also leaned over to join in the fun: “I see the Boss’s gaze is so full of affection. How is that treating you like a brother? It’s practically like looking at a new bride who just married into the family.”
Although everyone in the company knew Wei Xun had a high background and an unusual status, he usually didn’t like to put on airs, so it was common for the employees to joke behind his back. Mu Jia Shu didn’t take offense, smiling as he followed along: “Then if I marry into wealth, won’t I hit the big time?”
The three laughed together until Wei Xun walked over: “What are you laughing at?”
Big Sister Zhao and the other colleague were startled. Mu Jia Shu glanced at his watch: “Work is over.”
Wei Xun laughed: “I know work is over, so I’ve come to find you for lunch. Xiao Zhao, Chengyi, you two go eat quickly too.”
The other two agreed and walked out. While Big Sister Zhao was packing her things, she couldn’t help but take another look at Wei Xun. He was leaning down beside Mu Jia Shu and talking.
In her impression, although the Boss was usually very approachable, he didn’t talk much and didn’t like to smile. Today, however, he seemed like a different person, radiant and full of energy. Every word he spoke and every look he gave was filled with smiles, making that already handsome face seem even more luminous.
The two young men, one delicate and one handsome, looked exceptionally striking as they huddled together and spoke.
Wei Xun indeed felt this way. Now that Mu Jia Shu was back, he practically felt the whole world had become colorful. Although there were still many confusing truths waiting ahead, as long as the person was by his side, his mood while investigating them was completely different.
Previously, he had hesitated to act because he didn’t know what Pang Xing had done. Now that he knew, it would be a violation of heaven’s laws not to deal with him. Wei Xun didn’t want Mu Jia Shu to get involved in such matters, and he was afraid the brat would be too independent and do something without consulting him one day. So, he decided to handle these things himself before Mu Jia Shu could.
Night fell.
Most of the employees had already finished work, and only a few people remained in the company. Pang Xing was sitting in the security office smoking when the door opened and Mu Jia Shu walked in soundlessly.
“Don’t you know how to knock!” Pang Xing choked on a mouthful of smoke and said irritably.
Mu Jia Shu didn’t expect him to be in the office either. This truly was a chance encounter between enemies. Hearing Pang Xing speak so rudely, he looked at him and smiled: “What’s wrong, Brother Pang? Are you in a bad mood lately? Is it because Young Master Wei no longer values you, and you feel a bit lost?”
Pang Xing stared at his “villainous success” face for a few seconds before realizing Mu Jia Shu’s meaning. He was so angry he trembled, the cigarette falling onto his thigh and burning him. He slapped the table and stood up, pointing at Mu Jia Shu: “What are you saying?!”
Mu Jia Shu said with a smile: “Nothing, I was just feeling a bit sentimental. Life truly is unpredictable. Everyone in this world wants to fight for fame and fortune, and the result? Some people have no shame and no conscience, but in the end, they get nothing. What a pity.”
These words not only stung but happened to hit exactly what Pang Xing was currently thinking, causing him to feel a wave of panic. He didn’t know if Mu Jia Shu was just saying it casually or if he knew something. In a fit of rage, he kicked over a stool, stood up, and threw a punch toward Mu Jia Shu: “You brat, are you looking to die today?!”
The office was cramped and piled with junk. Mu Jia Shu had no room to dodge, so he nimbly propped himself on the desk and leaped over, turning to deliver a kick to Pang Xing’s elbow. He kicked him back two steps, then stood firm and dusted off his clothes with a smile: “I am looking for death.”
When he spoke this sentence, his expression and tone were very strange. Only his eyes were exceptionally bright, and for a moment, they overlapped with a face from his memory that he was very unwilling to think about. Pang Xing’s heart tightened, and in that moment of extreme fear, he didn’t even think before swinging a chair at Mu Jia Shu, roaring: “Get away! Get away!”
The chair was blocked halfway and came to a sudden halt. Wei Xun, who had just entered from outside, stood in front of Mu Jia Shu, one hand clutching the back of the chair and the other in his pocket. He barked: “What’s all the noise about!”
Mu Jia Shu didn’t expect him to come. He first called out “Young Master Wei,” then paused before explaining: “Nothing. I admire Brother Pang’s skills and was asking him for some advice.”
At this moment, the word “bullshit” popped into both Wei Xun’s and Pang Xing’s minds simultaneously.
Wei Xun flicked Mu Jia Shu’s forehead: “Are you okay?”
Mu Jia Shu, feeling he had lost a bit of face: “…I’m fine.”
Wei Xun nodded and casually straightened his collar: “Didn’t Grandma tell you to go home early to help your Uncle close the stall? Why haven’t you left yet? Hurry up.”
Mu Jia Shu said: “I’m going now. I just came back to the office to get my jacket.” He hadn’t expected to see Pang Xing here, and he hadn’t suppressed his temper, so the two of them had fought.
Actually, the fight felt quite good. If Mu Jia Shu knew what Wei Xun was going to do next, he definitely wouldn’t have listened to him and gone home so obediently.
Wei Xun watched him leave tenderly. When he turned his head, his gaze had become cold: “Pang Xing, come with me.”
His personality was straightforward and decisive, and he cherished Mu Jia Shu like a precious treasure. Now, regardless of whether there was a possibility of “long-lining to catch a big fish,” and without caring if the timing was right, the moment he thought of Pang Xing harming Mu Jia Shu like that, he didn’t want to endure it for another minute.
Pang Xing didn’t know what Wei Xun wanted with him, but looking at his attitude toward that pretty boy just now, he knew he was probably in for a scolding. He didn’t dare ask more and followed directly behind Wei Xun upstairs, entering an empty office.
He entered the room, and just as he called out “Young Master Wei,” his arms were pinned by two people on his left and right. His phone was fished out and sent out of the room, followed by a heavy kick to the back of his knees. He fell forward involuntarily, his face pressed against the floor.
This series of movements was well-trained; he was subdued almost before he had time to react.
A pair of leather boots appeared in his line of vision. Wei Xun lit a cigarette and took a puff, calming his emotions. In the lingering smoke, he asked slowly: “Do you know why I looked for you?”
Pang Xing’s face was pinned down, which seriously hindered his speech. While struggling with difficulty, he muttered a “No.”
He twisted his body, barely managing to straighten his face, and said: “Young Master Wei, I’ve followed you for almost two years. Even if Young Master Wei is dissatisfied with me, we should part as friends. There’s no need for this, right?”
“Part as friends?”
Wei Xun let out a cold laugh. He threw the cigarette butt on the ground and crushed it with his foot, then stuck another one in his mouth and leaned in to light it with his lighter. Only then did he jerk his chin toward the two people holding Pang Xing.
The two bowed and let go of Pang Xing, then left together, leaving only Liang Pingzhao standing behind Wei Xun. When Wei Xun didn’t need him, he had the ability to completely reduce his presence to zero.
Pang Xing was covered in dust as he scrambled up from the floor. Before he could even stand straight, Wei Xun’s ice-cold voice came over: “Tell me once more exactly how the incident with Young Master Mu happened.”
Pang Xing froze, his body turning rigid instantly.
Wei Xun said: “Speak.”
His tone was very calm, but there was a faint sense of a coming storm. Pang Xing said: “It was a heart attack. I saw that Young Master Mu’s face didn’t look good when he entered the house. He didn’t come downstairs for a long time after going to his room, so I felt uneasy and went up to knock on the door.”
He emphasized once more: “I saw Young Master Mu had fainted at that time and was extremely anxious. I quickly carried him down from upstairs. Sigh, unfortunately, it was too late.”
Wei Xun said: “How rare that you were so concerned about him. The Mu family must have been very good to you, right?”
Pang Xing relaxed a bit: “They were quite good. The salary was high, there wasn’t much work, and they didn’t put on airs…”
Wei Xun’s words seemed to be squeezed through his teeth: “Is that so? In that case, why did you kick his medicine away?”
It was as if a bolt of lightning had suddenly struck his heart. Pang Xing abruptly stopped speaking, looking at Wei Xun with a gaze as if he had seen a ghost. Only then did he realize Wei Xun’s face was ashen, and his expression was gloomy to the extreme.
Pang Xing stammered: “I, I…”
Wei Xun suddenly kicked him fiercely. Pang Xing was kicked into the wall by him, and before he could struggle, Wei Xun had already strode forward, his hand reaching back for his gun. The ice-cold muzzle was already pressed against his forehead.
The denial in Pang Xing’s throat was stifled, and he could say nothing. His reaction had already proven everything.
Wei Xun gripped the gun handle and panted for several breaths, his suppressed hatred churning up. He stared at him fixedly, unable to speak for a moment.
His expression was terrifying, his eyes bloodshot, like a wild beast about to devour someone. In that moment, Pang Xing had no doubt that as long as he said a single wrong word, Wei Xun would kill him without hesitation.
Wei Xun seemed to see through what he was thinking and said slowly: “Don’t worry, I absolutely will not let you die. I will absolutely not… let you die so easily!”
