Chapter 12: The Meeting (Part I)
One look at his expression and Nan Ming knew his son was truly angry this time. “How could I? Dad will give him a good lesson for you later. Just tell me what kind of trouble he’s caused.”
Nan Yu pondered for a moment before speaking seriously. “Dad, I think you all know what our dynamic was like before.”
The three men fell silent for a moment. They did indeed know. That Middle-Level Yineng Zhe, Bai Zhouyun, was still stuck at the Middle-Level—absolutely pathetic. Yet, because of his engagement to Nan Yu, he treated Nan Yu poorly, as if he weren’t at all afraid of the Nan family breaking the engagement.
Every time Nan Ming saw Bai Zhouyun, he felt a surge of rage. How could such a brat be worthy of his youngest son?
It wasn’t that the Nan family looked down on the Bai family, but almost everyone knew exactly what kind of person Bai Zhouyun was. Most people were already crying out against the injustice for the Nan family.
Of course, how many of those people simply wanted to kick Bai Zhouyun aside and take his place was another story.
Nan Ming asked, “Is it truly beyond endurance this time?”
He didn’t ask directly what happened, fearing Nan Yu might be too embarrassed to say it. After all…
Nan Yu, however, didn’t share his father’s hesitation. He spoke plainly. “The reason I chose to forgive his past actions wasn’t because I didn’t care, but because I felt there was no need to be so petty. But my magnanimity only made him think his behavior was a matter of course.”
“Whenever I’m angry, he says I’m being unreasonable. Whenever I’m dissatisfied, he says I’m hard to please. Is he the only one pampered by the Bai family? Do I, a Jingshenli Zhe, have to be the one to pamper him, an Yineng Zhe?”
It was a total joke!
Of course, he wasn’t saying a Jingshenli Zhe couldn’t dote on an Yineng Zhe, but shouldn’t such affection be mutual?
“This time, he actually had the audacity to hug Yun Feiyu right in front of me! He completely disregarded me! Just you wait—I definitely won’t marry an ability user like him!”
“And he actually thinks I’m the one misunderstanding! He thinks I’m being too petty! If he had just spoken properly and apologized, I wouldn’t be like this. But they all actually believe it’s my fault for being small-minded, that my attitude is wrong. It’s infuriating!”
Nan Yu’s words caused a surge of stifled anger to rise within the three Nan men, threatening to explode.
“That brat really treated you like that? He didn’t even take your side?”
Nan Yu had spoken so drastically this time to ensure they were mentally prepared. That way, even if he truly didn’t end up with Bai Zhouyun later, they wouldn’t be too surprised.
But looking at them, it seemed they had been dissatisfied with Bai Zhouyun for a long time. Seeing his current attitude, were they actually pleased?
Seeing his goal achieved, Nan Yu stopped bad-mouthing Bai Zhouyun. He knew very well how much his father and brothers loved him; if he continued to provoke them, they might go straight to the Bai house to beat the man up.
That wasn’t what he wanted to see.
He softened his tone. “In any case, I won’t be the one to apologize first this time. Besides… forget it. Let’s see what his attitude is first.”
Hearing this, Nan Ming, Nan Yun, and Nan Zhen suppressed their urge to go thrash Bai Zhouyun. It had to be said that Nan Yu had read their thoughts perfectly.
“Then let’s see if that brat has any sincerity,” Nan Ming said.
He didn’t say what would happen if there was no sincerity. Regardless, if Bai Zhouyun truly wasn’t someone to be entrusted with his son’s future, he wouldn’t hesitate—even if it meant offending Old Man Bai.
Besides, the Emperor likely wouldn’t interfere in the Bai family’s private matters, as long as no one actively sought trouble for them.
Everyone was wary of the Bai family, but Nan Ming didn’t care about that. When it concerned his most beloved youngest son, he had to consider things carefully.
Soon, they arrived at Zhenxiu Ge.
The four of them walked toward the entrance chatting and laughing. After Nan Ming showed his identification, a waiter led the family to a private booth inside.
“I already ordered when I made the reservation,” Nan Ming told the waiter. “You can just bring the food out.”
“Certainly, guest. Please wait a moment,” the waiter replied.
The waiter left, but just as he was about to close the door, a man reeking of alcohol suddenly burst in. With his eyes closed, he bellowed, “I’m back!! Come, come, come, beauty, let’s keep kissing…”
Everyone: “…”
Nan Yu and Nan Ming didn’t recognize the man, but Nan Yun and Nan Zhen did. This person was a Middle-Level Yineng Zhe who, like Bai Zhouyun, relied on his family status to stay at the Capital Star Royal Military Academy. He was also a Middle-Level Yineng Zhe, just like Bai Zhouyun.
The academy had six grades. Grades one through three were for Middle-Level Yineng Zhe, meaning one had to reach the Middle-Level just to enroll.
Advancing to the fourth grade actually required reaching the rank of High-Level Yineng Zhe, but there were exceptions—like Bai Zhouyun.
This person was arguably the one Bai Zhouyun got along with best, aside from the two Yun brothers.
Nan Yun’s expression was terrible. “Get him out of here!”
The waiter hurriedly waved for help, and two other similarly dressed waiters arrived quickly. They each grabbed one of the man’s arms and dragged him out of the booth.
Even as he was being dragged away, the man continued to shout, “What are you doing? Do you know who I am?!”
Nan Yu felt this person was quite “impressive” because very few people had the guts to act wildly in Zhenxiu Ge. He was likely being thrown out rather than sent back to his original booth.
And that was indeed the case. After the man was dragged out, a manager arrived with a dark face and ordered him to be tossed out. Zhenxiu Ge was backed by the Emperor; anyone wanting to move against them had to consider who was behind them first.
The manager recognized him too—he was Song Xingyu, the only son of the Song family, a minor family with some status on the Capital Star. Because both his parents were only children and he was their only child, he had been spoiled without limit since birth.
Now, he had truly grown into a piece of trash riddled with all sorts of vices.
Some trash could be sorted and recycled for use, but this particular piece of trash was the kind that even a recycling center wouldn’t want.
A failure through and through.
By the time Song Xingyu came to his senses, he felt pain all over his body. “Who dares hit me!”
He swayed as he pushed himself up from the ground, sitting right there on the street swearing. Although he had regained some awareness, he wasn’t sober yet, and he sat there cursing at the top of his lungs.
Passersby looked at him with strange expressions. Most people coming to Zhenxiu Ge were figures of some status, so it was only natural that some recognized him.
Eventually, someone friendly with the Song family notified them, and members of the Song family came to take Song Xingyu away, sparing him from further public embarrassment.
Once Song Xingyu had been dragged off, the area finally quieted down.
Nan Yu then asked, “By the way, Dad, Second Brother said he was coming here to meet someone. Who is it?”
