Chapter 134: Venting for Big Brother
Xie Qiang stood up. Meeting the interested gazes of the S-class Sentinels, she spoke indifferently. “Father is still waiting for me, so I won’t chat with Imperial Brother any longer. As for these S-class Sentinels, since they haven’t helped you in all these years, they clearly aren’t very capable. Intelligence is contagious; Imperial Brother should stay away from them.”
With those words, it was unclear if she was insulting the S-class Sentinels for being stupid and rubbing off on Xie Kong, or insulting Xie Kong for being stupid and rubbing off on them, causing their lack of achievements.
Xie Qiang picked a few winter flowers at random and left with Wanyan Jin.
Once she was gone, Xie Kong smashed his cup in a rage. “She actually dared to mock me like that!”
“First Prince, you said the Princess was very obedient to you. It doesn’t seem that way now, does it?” The Sentinel closest to the main seat looked at Xie Kong with a cool, mocking smile. “I might have to reconsider which side to stand on.”
“She’s just been away for three years and her heart has grown wild. Besides, you saw her attitude toward Sentinels!” Seeing the expressions of the S-class Sentinels shift, Xie Kong’s heart skipped a beat. He forced himself to stay calm. “She won’t even sit on a chair touched by you. Once she takes the throne, do you think she’ll let you off for being associated with me?”
The Sentinels looked at each other.
Then they smiled. “Naturally, it would be better if the First Prince took the throne.”
Xie Kong let out a sigh of relief, then clenched his fists under the table.
Damn it, if only I were an S-class Sentinel…
After leaving the greenhouse, Xie Qiang couldn’t help but clutch her stomach and let out a series of giggles.
“Hahaha! Brother, did you see his face?” She laughed so hard she was doubled over. The light in her eyes was brighter than the snow reflecting the sun. “As soon as I mentioned he was an A-class, his defense shattered. He looked like he wanted to cover my mouth so I’d stop talking.”
“With that kind of mindset, he really thought he could brainwash me into embarrassing myself at the victory banquet? Hmph, he can only trick a three-year-old!” Xie Qiang pouted and nudged the man beside her with her arm. “Brother, I PUA’d him so much just now. Do you feel better?”
What is PUA?
Wanyan Jin looked down at the girl. Her smile was soft and bright, her face full of pride. She wasn’t even looking where she was going; she just stared at him with stars in her eyes, as if everything she’d done was just to vent for him.
But Wanyan Jin only felt it was unnecessary.
He didn’t need her help.
He retracted his gaze and looked ahead coldly. “Princess, please watch where you’re walking. If you fall, I have my hands full of flowers and won’t be able to catch you.”
Xie Qiang made a face. “I have my own hands; I can get up myself.”
“Then the Princess is truly impressive. Learning to get up on your own at twenty-one,” the man said with half-hearted praise.
Xie Qiang: “…”
This guy’s tongue is truly sharp.
Xie Qiang couldn’t help but get curious. “Brother, you’re a snake Sentinel, right? Do you have venomous fangs when you half-beastify?”
“I am not the Princess’s brother,” Wanyan Jin said expressionlessly. “I do have venomous fangs, so the Princess would do well not to get too close, lest you get hurt.”
“Do snake Sentinels bite Zerg with their fangs? Can the venom kill them?” Xie Qiang continued to be a curious kitten. “What color is your venom? If you put it in water, would it kill other S-class Sentinels?”
“Also, do you shed your skin? Does your snake tail get thicker and longer every time you shed?”
Wanyan Jin’s brow twitched almost imperceptibly. “…”
She is so noisy.
Was she this noisy around Xie Kong when she was little?
Wanyan Jin quickened his pace, trying to get away from her.
He had long legs and soon put distance between them. Xie Qiang hurried to catch up, but in her haste, her boots slipped on the accumulated snow. With a loud thud, she went sprawling onto the ground.
It was a heavy fall. Wanyan Jin stopped and looked back at her.
The girl didn’t make a sound. She climbed up, brushed the snow off her clothes, and looked up to see him waiting. She bared her teeth in a grin. “Brother.”
Wanyan Jin’s heart skipped a beat. Realizing his own reaction, he hardened his gaze and turned to keep walking.
However, as he walked, he didn’t hear her following anymore. He frowned and eventually sighed, rubbing his temples before turning back.
The girl was still standing there. Her right toes were barely touching the ground; she wasn’t putting full weight on that foot. She was scratching her head in frustration, and when she pulled up her pant leg, the swelling on her ankle was clearly visible.
Xie Qiang looked at Wanyan Jin pitifully. “Brother, I sprained it.”
Wanyan Jin strode over. His cold blue snake pupils glanced at her injury before he looked away indifferently. “In that case, the Princess should call for a servant from her palace to pick her up. I will explain things to the Emperor.”
He turned to leave.
In the next second, his sleeve was caught. A soft, expectant voice rang in his ear. “Brother, I want you to carry me.”
Wanyan Jin froze. Then a mocking smile touched his lips as he looked back at her. “Princess, a Sentinel’s back is likely even filthier than a chair touched by one. Aren’t you afraid of getting dirty?”
“Are you angry because I said the chair you touched was dirty back in the greenhouse?” Xie Qiang gripped his sleeve tighter. “I didn’t want Xie Kong bossing you around. If I hadn’t said that, he wouldn’t have moved the chair himself.”
“Then should I thank the Princess?” Wanyan Jin sneered.
“That works too,” Xie Qiang said, accepting the thanks without hesitation. “You enjoyed it too, didn’t you? You even laughed.”
Wanyan Jin’s expression stiffened. Seeing the girl’s cunning, smiling face, he looked away. “As I said, I caught a cold.”
“Mm-hmm, sure.” Xie Qiang didn’t expose his poor excuse. She reached out her arms toward him. “So, Brother, can you carry me back now?”
“Not your brother,” Wanyan Jin corrected again, but he bent his back, offering it to the girl.
Xie Qiang grinned victoriously and hopped onto his back, wrapping her arms around his neck. “Thanks, Brother! You’re the best~”
“…” Wanyan Jin closed his eyes for a moment.
How is she so persistent? When we were little, she’d scream and tell me to get lost whenever I appeared.
Wanyan Jin walked toward the Emperor’s study. The girl on his back was light as a feather, as if a gust of wind could blow her away. He couldn’t help but tighten his hold on her legs to make sure she didn’t fly off.
And Xie Qiang leaned close to his ear, continuing to chatter away. “Brother, what color are the scales on your snake tail?”
