Paranoid Boss Always Wants to Possess Me CHAPTER 24
Chapter 24: Drunkenness
“Xiao Chen, come, come, sit here.”
“It’s rare for you to come to a gathering. Have fun and eat your fill tonight.”
The fat man from lunchtime was called Li Kui. He was plump, with round head and ears – not a pleasant sight.
Chen Jiamu didn’t bother arguing, forcing a smile.
He found a seat and looked around, not seeing anyone else. “Where’s everyone? Haven’t they arrived yet?”
Checking the time, Chen Jiamu frowned. The new boss was hosting; how dare they be late?
“Hah, probably getting all dolled up. We’re just roughnecks, not so fussy.”
“I heard the new boss is quite young. You know how girls are.”
Li Kui winked, looking incredibly sleazy. Chen Jiamu twitched his mouth.
Since everyone hadn’t arrived, he didn’t bother asking and played on his phone.
“Xiao Chen, come, let’s have a few drinks.”
“They’ll probably be a while. Let’s have a few drinks first; it’s no big deal.”
Li Kui and the manager across from him exchanged glances and raised their glasses to Chen Jiamu. Chen Jiamu was bewildered. When did this guy become so friendly? “Shouldn’t we wait for the boss?”
“What’s to be afraid of? Besides, the new boss might not even come.”
“It’s just a dinner; he might not even show up. The company just closed a big deal; the boss is probably busy schmoozing with the clients.”
Li Kui acted as if he knew everything, his tone nonchalant.
He shoved the glass into Chen Jiamu’s hand and drank his own in one gulp, looking expectantly at Chen Jiamu.
Chen Jiamu held the glass, frowning thoughtfully. Really…? Just like that?
Seeing Chen Jiamu hesitate, Qian Chengfeng, the manager opposite him, couldn’t wait any longer and raised his glass.
“Since you two are drinking, I can’t be left out.”
“Xiao Chen, I have high hopes for you.”
Qian Chengfeng raised his glass and drank it down. Seeing this, Chen Jiamu dropped his guard.
Since Qian Chengfeng was drinking, it must be fine.
After all, if the new boss was coming, the manager wouldn’t drink first.
“Thank you, Manager, for your kind words.”
He wasn’t giving him a raise; he was just feeding him empty promises!
What a nerve!
Chen Jiamu forced a smile, drank his glass, flattering words on his lips while cursing inwardly.
Because of his stubbornness to come to Su City, Chen Cheng had cut his allowance in half. He’d spent a lot of money trying to impress Zhang Xin, often running short of cash.
The only good thing was that he now understood the difficulties of being broke and an employee…
Seeing him drink, Li Kui became even more enthusiastic, urging him to drink glass after glass.
The liquor was strong, and Chen Jiamu’s tolerance was low; after so many drinks, he felt tipsy.
Chen Jiamu usually drank moderately, but he started to refuse Li Kui’s offers.
“I can’t anymore, I’m not drinking anymore.”
More colleagues arrived. Li Kui, seeing this, placed the bottle in front of Chen Jiamu, saying, “Moderation, I understand.”
“The boss isn’t coming anyway. You can take a nap; I’ll wake you up when the food comes.”
Chen Jiamu felt dizzy; he couldn’t hear him anymore, only wanting to rest his head.
The later arrivals saw the open bottle in front of Chen Jiamu and asked Li Kui what happened.
“Hah, young people, wanted to have a few drinks first.”
“Turns out he couldn’t handle his liquor, feels terrible now.”
Zhang Xin, who had gone home to change, frowned at this.
When did Chen Jiamu start drinking?
“Oh, Zhang Xin is here! Look at this beauty; she’s stunning!”
Suddenly hearing Zhang Xin’s name, Chen Jiamu looked up and saw her sitting happily next to Qian Chengfeng…
Perhaps sensing his gaze, Zhang Xin nervously looked away, pretending not to see him.
Chen Jiamu tried to stand, but the alcohol made him weak. His head felt heavy; he lifted it and then slumped back down.
Damn, I shouldn’t have drunk.
Chen Jiamu lay slumped, and the other colleagues whispered.
“He’s too bold.”
“The new boss isn’t even here yet, and he’s already drunk?”
“Yeah, and he’s completely wasted.”
“If the boss sees this, will he still be able to stay at Jingyi?”
“I don’t know, hard to say.”
Their whispers were low, but Chen Jiamu heard them, feeling annoyed.
Ignoring the dizziness, he stood up, swaying, glanced at Zhang Xin, and stumbled out of the room.
Outside, he messaged Zhang Xin, asking why she was sitting next to Qian Chengfeng.
After a long time, she didn’t reply. Chen Jiamu was about to call when he felt the urge to urinate.
Forgetting to call, he rushed towards the restroom.
Finding the restroom felt like finding a savior. While relieving himself, a man’s profile caught his eye.
Though only a profile, the man’s sharp nose, long eyelashes, and slightly pursed lips were undeniably handsome.
Chen Jiamu focused on the man’s jawline, a familiar feeling surging.
The figure slowly emerged from his memory, filling his mind.
“I really shouldn’t drink so much.”
“Everyone looks like Li Qi…”
Shaking his head, Chen Jiamu chuckled self-deprecatingly, zipped up, and went to wash his hands.
He also splashed water on his face to stay alert…
After he left, the man in the restroom emerged, standing at the door, silently staring at Chen Jiamu’s back…
“You’re still resentful, aren’t you?”
The man’s voice was soft, filled with guilt…
Chen Jiamu was completely unaware of this. After using the restroom, he felt a little clearer. He checked his phone; Zhang Xin still hadn’t replied.
He stood outside the private room, watching Zhang Xin sit next to Qian Chengfeng, laughing heartily.
She looked completely different from when she was with him…
At that moment, Chen Jiamu realized Zhang Xin had been using him as a backup…
Damn it, Chen Jiamu, the young master of the Chen family, had become someone’s backup?
At this thought, Chen Jiamu felt a wave of nausea…
It wasn’t entirely Zhang Xin’s fault; he’d used a false background when he met her.
A broken family, a sick mother, and debt…
He thought he could find a woman who didn’t care about money, but now he realized how naive he had been…
