Chapter 118. Becoming Intimate
Mo Xiao slowly closed his eyes, Shen Ji’s words echoing repeatedly in his mind.
Arcs of electricity still flickered around him, though the intensity had noticeably weakened. The lingering stings served as a constant reminder.
A reminder to consider the truth behind the words Shen Ji had left him with.
After an unknown amount of time, Mo Xiao’s body grew numb. He lifted a hand and wiped the cold sweat from his face. His combat uniform had long been scorched into tatters by the electricity. His exposed forearms and neck were covered in a web of red marks, and the numbness in his right knee was so severe he could barely stand.
The injury to his right leg hadn’t even fully recovered yet. Shen Ji’s “slip of the hand” had certainly found its mark.
Mo Xiao stood up unsteadily. He grabbed a discarded steel plate and sat down on it to rest.
Shen Ji’s words made his heart tighten with anxiety. The White Tower was targeting Su Tang.
The news was like a poisoned needle, pricking at his heart in a thousand places.
He had been careless. He had forgotten that there were no secrets within the White Tower. He had been so immersed in the sweetness of his recent time with Su Tang that he had forgotten to watch the eyes lurking in the shadows.
His thoughts began to wander. Recalling their previous interactions, Mo Xiao felt a wave of softness in his chest, and his body even began to tremble slightly with an uncontrollable reaction.
Mo Xiao adjusted his sitting posture, firmly suppressing the unrealistic thoughts bubbling up within him.
Mo Xiao, oh Mo Xiao, have you really become addicted to being ‘sucked’ by her? How can just thinking about it cause a reaction? He looked down at his chest; it really wasn’t for nothing that it was so broad…
Time ticked by. When the twelve hours were up, the timer emitted a soft beep. The electrical arcs died out, leaving nothing in the Thunder Training Room but the smell of ozone and Mo Xiao’s heavy breathing.
He used the wall for support and slowly stood up, limping toward the door. He looked battered and weak.
Just as he stepped out of the room, a figure suddenly rushed toward him.
“Mo Xiao!”
Yasuo looked at his tattered clothes and staggering footsteps, his brow furrowing as he moved to support him.
Staring at the scorched fabric and bleeding wounds, his anger began to flare.
“That bastard Shen Ji went too far! I’m going to the Second Team right now to settle the score with him.”
“I’m fine.” Mo Xiao’s voice was incredibly hoarse. He tried to pull his lips into a smile, but it tugged at the bloody streak on his face, causing him to hiss in pain. “Don’t be impulsive. It just looks scary.”
Yasuo frowned. He had been standing further away earlier, but now that he was closer, he realized that while the wounds looked bloody and terrifying, they weren’t actually deep.
His heart settled a little. It seemed Shen Ji was a man of his word and hadn’t tried any underhanded tricks.
“Can you walk? Should I carry you?”
Mo Xiao scanned the Sentinels who were glancing their way from time to time. He patted Yasuo’s shoulder with a heavy expression.
“Just help me back to the dormitory. I want to clean up first.”
His current appearance was truly frightening. If he went straight to the Medical Department, he was afraid he would scare Su Tang.
“I’ve got you.”
Yasuo draped one of Mo Xiao’s arms over his own neck and supported him by the shoulder, slowly leading him toward the dorms.
In truth, Mo Xiao was physically capable of walking on his own. However, there were simply too many Sentinels “coincidentally” trying to run into him along the way. He decided to use this to help spread the news that he had indeed been punished.
To get from the Thunder Training Room to his dormitory, they inevitably had to pass the Medical Department. Mo Xiao urged Yasuo to speed up, not wanting to run into Su Tang and cause her unnecessary worry.
But the more he wished for it, the more things went against him.
Just as they reached the entrance of the Medical Department, he saw Su Tang standing in the corridor, looking out. The moment she saw him, her eyes widened, and in the next second, she came rushing over.
“Mo… Mo Xiao.”
Su Tang was panting slightly. Seeing his battered state, her eyes began to sting with tears.
“Are… are you in pain?”
She wanted to touch him but didn’t dare. Her fingertips hovered hesitantly near the red welts on his arm, reaching out and then pulling back.
Mo Xiao’s heart warmed. He wanted to be intimate with her, but then he remembered Shen Ji’s warning. He gave Su Tang a small, subtle shake of his head.
He couldn’t. The White Tower might already be monitoring them.
Right now, he was the Sentinel who had reverse-purified his Guide. Su Tang, meanwhile, was the Guide who had suffered Traumatic Stress Disorder because of him.
At least in public, she could not be seen having overly intimate contact with him.
Mo Xiao forced himself to keep his hands to himself rather than stroking her silky hair.
“Let’s go inside first.”
Su Tang realized what he meant and nodded. She turned and led the way into the Medical Department, not even stopping for a breath until she reached An Se’s office.
“An Se! An Se!”
An Se was at his desk organizing serums. Hearing her voice, he looked up and saw Su Tang rushing toward him in a panic.
“My little ancestor, what is it now? Was the food Yasuo bought too sweet and you want me to deal with it…”
He didn’t finish his sentence as his gaze met the bloody figure standing behind Su Tang.
“How did you end up in this state? Go sit down and let me take a look.”
Supported by Yasuo, Mo Xiao sat down in the treatment chair. His lips pressed into a tight line. Thinking of the intimate way An Se had just spoken to Su Tang, a strange feeling began to take root in his heart.
Just how had the relationship between Su Tang and An Se progressed so quickly during the days he was confined?
And what was that about Yasuo frequently buying snacks for her?
“The snacks I bought for you before… were they too sweet?”
Hearing An Se mention that Su Tang had made him finish the snacks he had bought, Yasuo felt quite displeased.
He had clearly followed the advice of the salesperson at the supply station. They had said Guides usually liked that kind of flavor, which was why he had bought so many. He had thought that if she was bored staying in the Medical Department, eating some snacks would help change her mood. He never expected that all those things had ended up in that old fox’s stomach.
It felt like a little wife using her husband’s money to feed a male model; no matter how he thought about it, it felt wrong.
Su Tang’s mind had been entirely on Mo Xiao’s injuries, but Yasuo’s interruption made her feel a sudden pang of guilt.
“They were a bit sweet, though they tasted fine. It’s just that I’ve been feeling a bit ‘internal heat’ lately and didn’t want anything too heavy. I didn’t want them to go to waste, so I asked Director An Se to help me finish them.”
Heaven as her witness, she hadn’t specifically told An Se to eat them. After all, Sentinels generally preferred light flavors. If she thought they were sweet, An Se would find them even worse.
Her original intention was for An Se to share them with the other Guide staff in the department—the unopened ones, of course. As for the few bags she had already opened, she had pinched her nose and swallowed them with water. She really didn’t want to experience that taste a second time.
