Part 3
“Because of a mistake.” Ye Qingyu’s voice grew heavy. “During the last mission to raid Walter’s stronghold, the entire team I led was killed by his people. I’m the only one who survived and became a prisoner.”
Just as Jiang Chenyan was about to ask for details of the mission, Ye Qingyu interrupted him: “Don’t speak yet. There’s something I must tell you.” Her voice lowered a bit. “Besides Ye Qingyu, I have another alias: White Night.”
“White Night…” Jiang Chenyan’s brow suddenly tightened. The name flashed through his mind like a bolt of lightning, but for a moment, he couldn’t remember where he had heard it.
Just then, an encrypted file popped up from the system in his mind, and Jiang Chenyan finally remembered.
White Night, a top-tier female Omega assassin. She had long led the Omegas and Betas in the interstellar world to resist the unreasonable regime of the Alpha class, organizing multiple uprisings.
There were descriptions of her in the latter half of the original novel as well. She changed part of the regime at the cost of heavy casualties, but still didn’t succeed in an absolute overthrow.
The system provided a timely explanation: [Host, since this is a fanfic, I pulled up some fanfic data. Uh, it was an unfinished, abandoned ending.]
“Abandoned ending?” Jiang Chenyan raised an eyebrow, questioning in his mind. “What do you mean?”
[It reached the core plot point and then just went straight to the finale.] The system was also speechless. [Specifically, the protagonist shou finally blackened and went on a rampage, killing off several of the main gongs. Then the whole story just ended without even a proper wrap-up, leaving a bunch of holes unfilled.]
Well then, it seemed he could improvise.
Jiang Chenyan asked the Ye Qingyu across from him, “Why tell me this all of a sudden? Whether it’s your true identity or my business, there’s no need to be so honest with a stranger, right?”
The sound of light, barely audible footsteps came through the darkness. She seemed to have moved closer to the bars, her voice becoming clearer. “In this situation, we’ve been grasshoppers on the same string for a long time. Besides, I have inside information. You aren’t some SS+ rank Alpha at all.”
Jiang Chenyan frowned. His secret was no longer a secret.
“What do you mean?”
“The hackers in our resistance organization hacked into the Interstellar Alliance’s core database long ago. Your physiological info shows that you’re actually an Omega, just that your pheromones were artificially masked to disguise you as an Alpha.”
“You’re right.” Jiang Chenyan looked toward the darkness across the bars. “My true identity isn’t actually a secret. Most of the high-ranking officials in the Alliance already know; it’s just that for some special reasons, it hasn’t been announced to the public.”
Ye Qingyu was clearly stunned. She probably hadn’t expected Jiang Chenyan to be so honest.
Jiang Chenyan let out a soft laugh, his tone carrying a hint of laziness. “Miss White Night, what do you think of this basement? I’ve had quite enough of it. It’s a bit too boring.”
“Huh?” Ye Qingyu didn’t follow. “What do you mean?”
“I mean, let’s go out tomorrow. Walter thinks he can control everything just by locking me up.”
“He’s wrong. As long as I want to leave, he can’t trap me.”
Ye Qingyu’s low chuckle came through the darkness. “Interesting. I have no complaints about your plan. Just say the word if you need me to do anything.”
The next day, the iron door of the basement opened with a creak, and blinding light flooded in.
A guard was carrying a metal tray, which he slammed onto the ground outside the bars. Two rock-hard steamed buns lay on the tray, emitting a faint smell of mold.
Jiang Chenyan leaned against the wall. He glanced at the buns, his brow furrowing slightly. He casually grabbed one and tossed it out. The bun hit the ground and rolled quite a distance. “I don’t eat this kind of stuff.”
“You fucking looking for death!” The guard immediately flared up. He reached out to grab Jiang Chenyan’s collar, but the moment he saw his face, his movements jerked to a stop.
He didn’t know if it was an illusion, but Jiang Chenyan looked even better today than yesterday. His skin had a cold, white porcelain-like quality under the light, and the corners of his eyes were tilted up slightly. Even as a prisoner, his beauty was like a carefully painted oil painting that made one instinctively dare not desecrate it.
“What are you? You dare to be picky?” The guard suppressed the strange feeling in his heart. “If I didn’t know better, I’d think you were some pampered Omega!”
Hearing this, a very faint smile curved Jiang Chenyan’s lips. With a ripple in his eyes, a faint, almost imperceptible pheromone began to spread quietly.
It wasn’t the forceful oppression of an Alpha, nor the bland neutrality of a Beta, but an aura with a hint of cold, sweet fragrance.
He leaned forward slightly, looking the guard straight in the eyes. “Oh? And how did you know I was an Omega?”
The guard’s pupils shrank, and his whole body stiffened. That faint pheromone made his heart panic inexplicably and his throat tighten. For a long time, he couldn’t say a single word. “You… you…”
Staring at Jiang Chenyan’s beautiful, almost otherworldly face, with that faint sweet fragrance lingering at the tip of his nose, the guard’s blood instantly boiled. This was clearly an Omega’s pheromone.
He suddenly realized—no wonder this prisoner was so alluring. He was actually an Omega.
His glands heated and swelled uncontrollably. A dizzying sensation of lightheadedness hit him as the restlessness of a rut broke through his reason.
The guard’s eyes were bloodshot and his breathing was heavy as he looked at Jiang Chenyan. “As expected of a delicate Omega. You can’t take even a bit of grievance.”
Jiang Chenyan lowered his eyes, his long lashes hiding the cold light within. He coaxed, “If you get me some decent food, I’ll help you resolve your rut. How about it?”
“Okay! Sure!” The guard was blinded by desire. How could he care about anything else? He immediately pulled out the keys to unlock the iron gate.
He rubbed his hands and moved closer to Jiang Chenyan. His mind was full of getting his rocks off first and reporting later. He reached out, wanting to put his arm around Jiang Chenyan’s waist.
The moment the guard’s fingertips were about to touch him, Jiang Chenyan looked up sharply. A poison needle as fine as a hair shot out from his wrist like a flash of lightning, precisely piercing the guard’s neck.
The guard’s pupils dilated instantly. His body shook stiffly. Without even a groan, he collapsed straight down.
Jiang Chenyan retracted the needle, stood up, and patted the dust off his coat. He picked up the keys the guard had dropped.
Walking to the bars of Ye Qingyu’s cell, he inserted the key into the lock and turned it.
With a clink, the lock opened, and the iron door swung open.
Ye Qingyu leaned against the wall and raised an eyebrow. “Quick work. Seems you didn’t need me after all.”
“Don’t worry. I’ll need you in a moment.”
Jiang Chenyan snatched the gun from the guard’s waist and aimed the muzzle precisely at the guard’s forehead. The system instantly activated the silencer mode. With a soft thump, the bullet pierced the skull, and he died on the spot.
Ye Qingyu was in a state of excitement. She didn’t notice anything wrong with the gun at all. “Ruthless enough.”
“There’s no need to show mercy to enemies. Now, we should head out.”
Just as the two were about to move, a series of hurried footsteps came from the basement entrance, accompanied by an impatient scolding: “How long does it take to deliver a meal? Slacking off? What do you think you’re doing?”
“People are coming!” Ye Qingyu wasn’t afraid. On the contrary, she became even more excited. Her breathing quickened, and she spoke sinisterly.
“I really want to kill someone.”
“Lend me that bracelet of yours to play with.”
Jiang Chenyan: “…”
He wanted to take back what he had just said. How could Ye Qingyu ever show mercy to an enemy? She couldn’t wait to kill them all.
