Chapter 20: Bizarre Beast
Nan Yu seriously learned everything he needed to know from An Mi, but he soon realized it was all quite simple.
“I’ve memorized it all”.
An Mi nodded. “In that case, I’ll stay here and watch while you perform the operations once. If there are no issues, I’ll head off to my other duties”.
He had managed to squeeze out this bit of time with great difficulty; he couldn’t stay any longer.
Nan Yu naturally understood the reason for his concern. No matter how good his mental power was, he was still only fifteen—but Nan Yu wasn’t truly fifteen…
When Nan Yu performed all the operations before him with extreme proficiency, An Mi finally nodded. “Very good. You’ve familiarized yourself so quickly. It seems you really are gifted. You should just stay in the military in the future”.
“I was thinking the same thing,” Nan Yu replied. “But I have to go back to school after this. Once I graduate, I’ll apply to join the military. Having this experience should make things much easier”.
“Excellent,” An Mi said. “Now, clear their mental pollution in the order I told you. Is that a problem?”
Nan Yu nodded. “That’s what I’m most familiar with. It definitely won’t be a problem, so don’t worry, Captain An. However…”
“I heard the Marshal mention a very peculiar and bizarre Yineng beast here that can exhale red mist. If soldiers inhale it, does the speed of their mental pollution really accelerate?”
“Correct,” An Mi replied. “That’s exactly right. They all wanted to find and kill that beast as quickly as possible, so whenever there was a trace of it, everyone would rush in. The result was…”
“So the people lying here are all here because of their own actions?”
“Well, I understand. Go on to your duties, Captain. I’m going to start here”.
An Mi trusted him, simply because he was the person brought back by the Marshal, so…
Nan Yu watched him leave before turning back to the room. He found the officer whose condition was most severe; according to the screen, he had been comatose for five days—the longest in the room. He had to hurry.
Standing at the head of the bed, he closed his eyes and placed his hands on either side of the man’s temples, then began using his mental power to dispel the mental pollution within his mental sea.
As soon as his mental power entered, he felt a heavy sense of stagnation. His mental power could even “see” layers of pitch-black substance swirling within, looking extremely difficult to deal with.
However, it wasn’t too difficult for him. In truth, he could have completely cleared the officer’s mental pollution, but as An Mi had said, he couldn’t do that.
He was responsible for everyone in this room, so he had to reserve a certain amount of mental power. Otherwise, if a sudden emergency occurred, it would be difficult for him to adapt.
Furthermore, he had to ensure that all the officers here could maintain their sanity, so he only cleared the pollution to a level where it wouldn’t affect the man’s consciousness.
Once everyone was awake, if he still had energy left, he could help some of the weaker ones clear a bit more.
Nan Yu quickly immersed himself in his work. To wake this comatose officer, it only took him about ten minutes.
This was the true strength of a Middle-Level Jingshenli Zhe who could be called a standout even among his peers.
Back on the Capital Star, he had always been very fond of Bai Zhouyun, but as time passed and Bai Zhouyun became increasingly useless, he had done his best to hide a portion of his strength.
However, on certain occasions, he still had to help other elders who were close to his father. This led to those legendary rumors that most people found hard to believe.
But the past was the past, and now was now. He was in the military to help them through a crisis, and this was the time to showcase his abilities—he couldn’t hide them anymore.
Besides, he had no reason to hide his strength anymore, did he?
In this world, the more outstanding one was, the more popular they became. He thought of the Nianshen Cao in his space button; he was someone destined to become a High-Level Jingshenli Zhe. By showing his strength now, people wouldn’t be too shocked when he eventually advanced.
To keep them conscious, it took anywhere from ten to fifteen minutes per person. There were forty-six people in the room, so he continued for several hours.
When he helped the last person and saw him slowly wake up, his legs gave way, and he slumped into a chair, gasping for breath.
“Thank you…”
Nan Yu looked up. Almost everyone in the room was looking at him. He had felt it earlier, but he had to be fully focused when clearing mental pollution, so he had subconsciously ignored those around him. Now, however, he could feel it.
Forty-odd people were all staring at him, making him feel a bit embarrassed.
One of them suddenly sat up and slapped a comrade on the bed next to him with a loud thwack.
“What are you doing?!”
Everyone looked over.
“What am I doing? What do you think? Don’t you know it’s rude to keep staring at someone? Can’t you see he’s a bit embarrassed?”
Only then did everyone realize they had been a bit impolite. They were soldiers, after all; though strictly disciplined, they were used to direct communication, so…
But standing before them was a Jingshenli Zhe they had never seen before, and he looked very young.
“Uh… well… you…”
Nan Yu knew they were all straightforward soldiers and felt quite a bit of goodwill toward them. “I am Nan Yu. I’ve always been on the Capital Star, but this time…”
“Ah! So you’re the precious treasure of the Nan family from the Capital Star? I didn’t expect you to come here… hmph!”
A comrade beside him directly hooked an arm around his neck and covered his mouth to stop him from speaking. “I said, can you speak properly? Can you?!”
Nan Yu suddenly let out a laugh and covered his mouth, but his eyes were curved with mirth, which lightened everyone’s mood.
“Alright, I’ll rest for a bit. After I’ve recovered, I’ll clear your mental pollution once more. The first round was just to ensure you stay conscious and to stop your condition from worsening”.
“You might look fine now, but you can’t head to the front lines yet. For now, just lie back and rest”.
Everyone felt a bit embarrassed, but they knew this was true, so they wouldn’t be stubborn.
Watching these big, burly men lying so obediently in their beds, Nan Yu found it a bit amusing. But… the bizarre Yineng beast they mentioned was indeed strange.
In his previous life, he had never—
Well, just because he hadn’t heard of it in his past life didn’t mean it didn’t exist. In his past life, he had never even met Marshal Yu face-to-face!
But in this life, he had done it.
So anything could happen. He wondered if things would turn out differently this time with his involvement.
And how had the Marshal and the others dealt with that beast in his previous life?
