Chapter 69: Let Me Help You
Mu Feng understood what he meant by “helping.”
For common AO partners, the gentlest way at this time was to provide comfort through pheromone release or deeper intimacy.
But he couldn’t do the former as an Alpha, and Liang Yuhang would refuse the latter.
Mu Feng’s lips moved. “Our compatibility is very low; it might be useless.”
Liang Yuhang hummed and looked at him. “Aren’t you going to ask why my susceptibility period came early?”
Mu Feng was blank. “Yeah, 0717 said it shouldn’t be now.”
“Because a certain someone was being provocative in their sleep last night, mistaking me for someone else again.” Liang Yuhang said this while still standing outside the meeting room. Although the other doctors had dispersed, it was still a public place.
His bluntness made Mu Feng flush.
Memories of last night’s dream suddenly flooded back. So Liang Yuhang was right there at the time?
Heavens, could there be anything more soul-crushing than this? Just let me die.
“I didn’t mistake you for someone else,” Mu Feng whispered in defense.
Liang Yuhang raised an eyebrow. “A pure dream with no specific object?”
“No, maybe it was because the pressure has been too high lately, so my hormones got out of balance. I couldn’t even see the face clearly.” Mu Feng denied it flatly.
Liang Yuhang grudgingly accepted this answer. “I’m very busy today, so stay with Professor Zhang and be good.”
He had even put on such a device, so it must be more serious than last time. Since he still had to work, Mu Feng was a bit worried. “Is it really no problem?”
“Not for now.” Seeing his nervous face, Liang Yuhang’s voice softened a bit. “I was just scaring you earlier. Don’t blame yourself. My hormones go out of balance easily; it has nothing to do with you.”
Mu Feng felt even more guilty.
If he said that, it definitely was related to him.
“Mu Feng, where are you? We’re assembling!” Zhang Luyan shouted over the communicator.
“I have to go down now, Professor Liang. Don’t push yourself too hard.” Mu Feng said.
Liang Yuhang gave a hum of acknowledgment and reached up to tighten the buckle of his mask. His thin lips were hidden behind it, making him look cold and restrained.
Mu Feng turned and ran downstairs. During the assembly, he bumped into a rather pretty boy. He glanced at him sideways and then quickly returned to the ranks.
“Who’s that? He doesn’t look like a student who came with us,” Mu Feng asked in a low voice.
Jiang Yu’an looked up and scanned him a few times. “He looks a bit ‘stereotypical.’ I hope I’m just overthinking it.”
“What kind of stereotype?” Mu Feng asked casually.
“Like a ‘consolation Omega.'” Jiang Yu’an often hung out in nightclubs and had seen many like him. “The kind specifically for Alphas to play with. But who would dare bring one to the war zone? Who plays that wild?”
Mu Feng’s expression grew more serious. “Who brought him?”
“I don’t know. I didn’t see him yesterday.” Jiang Yu’an smiled. “Since when did you care about this kind of gossip, little straight-A student? I heard you performed a great service yesterday.”
Mu Feng was distracted. Could he be there for Liang Yuhang?
If anyone would do such a thing, he couldn’t think of a second option besides Liang Jingyi.
“Tiantian, has your mentor arrived?” he turned and asked.
“He said he’d be two days late. He should be on his way.” Zhou Tiantian said, “He’s really determined. He just got a bit better and he’s already rushing to the war zone.”
The faint sense of unease in Mu Feng’s heart expanded.
But even if he was, Liang Yuhang would refuse. He thought no one could force him.
“The students will be divided into two groups today. One group will be responsible for transferring the wounded, and the other for hospital observation. The list is here. We depart in five minutes.” Zhang Luyan said, “Mu Feng and He Shuang will be the leaders of the two groups respectively.”
Mu Feng and Zhou Tiantian were in the same group and needed to go on field duty.
“I’m so excited. I gave myself two shots of stimulant this morning. I’m going to show off my skills today.” Zhou Tiantian seemed over-excited.
Mu Feng smiled. “You should go replace 0717. You’re a natural-born worker.”
“If Liang Yuhang could let me be his assistant, I’d wake up laughing from my sleep. That AI gets seventy thousand a month.” Zhou Tiantian clicked his tongue. “I could work myself to death.”
Mu Feng: “…………”
Is this what high-energy people are like? Simply untouchable.
“Leader, let’s go,” someone called him.
Mu Feng thought to himself, I’ve never even been a group monitor since I was a kid, and now I’ve been promoted.
He shook off the messy thoughts in his mind and threw himself into the transfer work.
By the time it ended, it was already late. He didn’t even have time to eat before running upstairs to find Liang Yuhang.
He bumped into Lu Zhuo on the way. He stopped and asked, “Where is Professor Liang?”
“His office, probably. His reaction was a bit severe this afternoon, so he took time off.” Lu Zhuo looked at his dust-covered appearance. “Looks like today’s task was heavy. Go wash your face first.”
Mu Feng wiped his face and found his hand covered in dust.
He rushed to the restroom to wash his face and then strode toward Liang Yuhang’s office.
The door was locked, and a muffled sound came from inside.
He turned the door handle but couldn’t open it. Liang Yuhang never had the habit of locking his office; this was extremely abnormal.
Mu Feng thought of the boy he met this morning again. Feeling a bit anxious, he kicked the door open.
“Why did you come in?” The person inside was clearly flustered.
Mu Feng looked up and saw Liang Yuhang lying in his swivel chair with his eyes tightly shut. The pretty boy was naked and was reaching out to unbuckle the mask on the other’s face.
“Who sent you?” Mu Feng approached step-by-step, his face very dark. “Liang Jingyi?”
“What nonsense are you talking about?” The boy frowned. Liang Yuhang was hard to deal with and very alert; he had used three different methods just to manage to knock him out.
Before he could do anything, Mu Feng arrived.
Mu Feng threw the clothes nearby at him, walked over, leaned down, and grabbed his throat. “I’ll ask one more time. Who sent you?”
“No… one…” The boy was an Omega after all, and their physical strength was completely disparate. He coughed from the choking. “Let go.”
Mu Feng stared straight at him. “Besides knocking him out, what else did you do?”
The boy shook his head frantically. “Nothing.”
Based on the materials he received earlier, Mu Feng was a pure Omega, but at this moment, he completely displayed the oppressive aura of an Alpha, which was terrifying.
“Did you take photos?” Mu Feng narrowed his eyes slightly. “He sent you here, so he must want to leave some evidence.”
Even if he hadn’t managed to do anything yet, he must have taken some ambiguous photos—a honey trap.
The boy hadn’t expected Mu Feng to be so smart and refused to admit it. “No, I just like Liang Yuhang and wanted to help him, that’s all.”
“Oh, you really do like him. You showed up at just the right time.” Mu Feng’s fingers tightened. “Hand over the photos.”
“There are no photos.” The boy stubbornly refused to admit it.
“Then let’s call the police and see how the court rules on knocking someone out.” Mu Feng’s expression was very calm. “How much did he pay you? Give me the photos, and I’ll give you double.”
“Go ahead and call the police.” The boy was very stubborn. “Colonel Liang just got engaged and then this kind of scandal breaks out. Let’s see which side public opinion takes.”
Mu Feng fell silent. What he feared most was Liang Yuhang being involved in controversy. Even if it were because of himself, he would not hesitate to draw a clear line.
How should he solve this?
The boy grew smug. “You still care about him a lot, but unfortunately, you’ve chosen the wrong side.”
“What exactly do you want?” Mu Feng asked.
“Nothing special. You’re smart and you know I’m acting under orders, so you should also be very clear about the desired result. Naturally, it’s for Liang Yuhang to be ruined and lose everything.”
Mu Feng sneered. “Is it necessary to go this far between brothers?”
“It might not just be his brother.” The boy smiled slightly. “That’s all the hint I’m giving. It seems today’s task didn’t go smoothly. See you another day.”
Mu Feng reached out and dragged him back. “Be clear. Who else? Mu Shan? Mu Shui?”
The boy just remained silent. Silence was the best answer.
The thing that gave Mu Feng the biggest headache had happened; his enemies and Liang Yuhang’s enemies had banded together and did not intend to let anyone have an easy time.
“If you don’t hand over the photos, you aren’t leaving this room today.” Mu Feng dragged the person back heavily, threw him on the floor, and leaned down. “I don’t have much of a bottom line. If I need to kill you, I will.”
The boy felt his breathing grow thin and looked up, gasping for air. “Cloud storage.”
Mu Feng found the phone in his clothes and unlocked it with the other’s fingerprint. “Where else besides the cloud?”
There were various staged photos in the album, all with the boy proactively approaching while Liang Yuhang’s eyes were closed. It was clumsy, but enough to damage Liang Yuhang’s reputation.
“It’s useless. It’s already been synchronized and uploaded.” A few tears leaked from the boy’s eyes. “It won’t matter even if you kill me.”
Mu Feng’s eyes grew even colder. “If you don’t defect to my side, I can kill you right now.”
The boy felt Mu Feng’s blunt killing intent and started trembling. “I’m just doing the work. I don’t know what they want to do with the photos yet.”
“Be my undercover agent.” Mu Feng took out the reagent he carried with him and suddenly stabbed it into his waist. “A special reagent. Come find me in three days for the slow-release agent, or you will truly die. Go find out what they want to do. If the photos are to be made public, there will surely be a channel and a reason. Find out.”
The boy nodded, as quiet as a cicada in winter.
“What’s your name?”
“Jin Ling.”
Mu Feng irritably picked the person up. “Put your clothes on and get lost.”
Jin Ling scrambled to get up, buttoned his clothes, and bolted out the door.
Mu Feng stood up, walked to Liang Yuhang’s side, and placed his fingers lightly between the other’s brows, wiping away layers of cold sweat. “No one can hurt you.”
The other party let out a low, muffled breath, clearly in great discomfort.
Mu Feng leaned down. Through the metal mask, he could feel a cold touch on his lips.
He half-squatted down and spoke in a low voice, “Professor Liang, it’s very hard, isn’t it? Let me help you.”
