The Little Fool Saves the Masochistic Novel Protagonist CHAPTER 18

Chapter 18
In the taxi, Chi Abei stared intently at the car in front: “Uncle driver, follow closely. Don’t lose him.”
The car in front drove into a residential building and stopped. The taxi driver looked back at him: “Your brother got out of the car. Do you want to get out?”
Chi Abei crouched down, hiding behind the seat: “Keep driving. I’ll get out when we pass.”
The taxi drove to the back of another building. Chi Abei carried Lin Xiu’s schoolbag and the uneaten baozi.
Twenty minutes ago, he was sent off in the car by Lin Xiu. However, Lin Xiu didn’t get in with him, saying he had something to do and asking him to go to school first.
Chi Abei felt Lin Xiu might have some misunderstanding about him. Did he look so obedient?
Well, he did look quite well-behaved, but who said that well-behaved people would always listen?
This was an old residential area. The entire group of buildings had faded, and wherever there was space, various small advertisements were plastered: real estate sales, rentals, missing persons, even missing dogs…
Lin Xiu stood in front of a building. Chi Abei hid himself and secretly observed, but strangely, Lin Xiu also hid himself.
Chi Abei curiously peeked out and saw Lin Weimin, who had been driven away by Lin Xiu half an hour ago, shambling into the building next door.
Just as Chi Abei was wondering what this place was, he suddenly heard a voice behind him: “What are you doing here?”
Chi Abei turned around sharply and saw Lin Xiu standing behind him. His face clearly said, “How did you get here from behind?”
Chi Abei silently turned his body towards the wall: “…Uh, the driver got lost.”
Lin Xiu: “Do you think I’ll believe that?”
Chi Abei didn’t speak; he pretended to be busy studying the small advertisements on the wall.
Lin Xiu glanced at the advertisement he was looking at: “Infertility treatment. Do you have that kind of problem?”
Chi Abei: “???” What the heck?
Upon closer inspection, he found that the advertisement in front of him clearly stated “Specialized in infertility treatment”!
Chi Abei shook his head: “I don’t.”
Lin Xiu’s schoolbag straps were a bit long, and Chi Abei looked comical carrying it like a stolen sack.
Lin Xiu: “I told you to take a taxi to school. What are you doing here?”
Chi Abei weighed the heavy schoolbag and looked behind Lin Xiu: “How did you come out from behind?”
Lin Xiu laughed angrily: “Were you following me?”
Chi Abei realized he couldn’t hide it anymore, so he admitted: “Yeah, you caught me.”
The sound of sirens grew closer. Chi Abei looked curiously and saw two police cars stopping in front of the building where Lin Weimin had just entered. Several policemen in peaked caps got out of the cars and went inside.
Old residential areas were never short of elderly people. In the blink of an eye, the downstairs was surrounded by people.
When the police brought Lin Weimin and five or six others out of the building, several elderly women were whispering together—
“They must have been reported.”
“Isn’t that Old Wang’s son?”
“I knew it! He’s always gambling. Now he’s been busted.”
Chi Abei was pulled over by Lin Xiu to join the crowd. Hearing the women’s words, he suddenly looked at Lin Xiu: “Brother, could it be that you…”
The schoolbag on his shoulder suddenly lightened. Lin Xiu took it and hung it on his own shoulder: “Let’s go.”
Chi Abei was stunned: “Where to?”
Lin Xiu: “To school. Where else would we go?”
On the way, Chi Abei still wanted to confirm: “Brother, was it you?”
Chi Abei discovered Lin Xiu had a bad habit: he often didn’t answer questions properly. Others might at least give a perfunctory response to avoid a topic, but he didn’t even bother with that; he just skipped it.
Just as Chi Abei thought he wouldn’t answer this time either, he heard a faint “Mm.”
If murder wasn’t illegal, Lin Xiu would probably want to kill Lin Weimin. Unfortunately, he couldn’t do that. Even for his grandmother, he wouldn’t trade his life for Lin Weimin’s.
If Lin Weimin hadn’t come today, he wouldn’t have thought of him so soon. Since he came, as his nephew, Lin Xiu felt he should give him a gift. After all, Lin Weimin himself said that he didn’t throw him away to feed the dogs when he was a child. As a repayment for escaping the dog’s mouth, he should also send him to spend some “peaceful” days.
Chi Abei had guessed, so he wasn’t particularly surprised, although the novel hadn’t mentioned Lin Xiu doing such a thing before.
But what he worried about was that although Lin Weimin was arrested, judging from how he had angered his grandmother to death, he probably wouldn’t be imprisoned for long, especially since he had no money and small-scale gambling wouldn’t constitute a gambling crime.
Lin Xiu looked at him: “What are you thinking about?”
Chi Abei was unusually quiet when thinking. This unusual calmness made Lin Xiu feel uncomfortable.
Chi Abei shook his head: “Nothing.”
He was just thinking about how to make Lin Weimin stay longer, preferably for the rest of his life, so that he wouldn’t cause trouble for Lin Xiu, and his grandmother wouldn’t be angered to death.
At school, Chi Abei went to the dorm to get his schoolbag while Lin Xiu waited for him downstairs.
When Chi Abei came down, he not only had a schoolbag on his shoulder but also a trash bag in his hand.
Lin Xiu put away his phone and watched Chi Abei, carrying a baozi in one hand and a trash bag in the other, run towards the trash can. He opened the lid and threw the baozi in…
Lin Xiu: “…”
The moment the lid closed, Chi Abei froze for a moment, realizing he’d thrown the wrong thing, and instinctively reached for the trash can lid.
Lin Xiu quickly shouted: “Chi Abei, don’t pick it up!”
Chi Abei: “…”
He didn’t want to pick it up; he just wanted to see if his brain was also in the trash can.
He looked at Lin Xiu aggrievedly: “My baozi.”
Lin Xiu’s heart was in his throat. He was afraid the little fool would fish the baozi out of the trash can.
He walked over, took the trash bag from Chi Abei’s hand, and threw it in: “It’s okay. It’s normal for a newly corrected brain to not be used to it yet.”
Chi Abei hung his head dejectedly: “Brother, you’re so funny.”
Funny wasn’t a word associated with Lin Xiu. He said: “I’m not usually funny, unless it’s to little fools.”
Chi Abei raised his head: “Brother, I’m really not stupid.”
Lin Xiu glanced at the trash can: “Are you sure?”
Chi Abei: “…”
I’m not so sure either.
Before the third-period class, Lin Xiu and Chi Abei finally entered the classroom. As Chi Abei passed Jiang Yu’s seat, he greeted him enthusiastically: “Good morning, Jiang Yu brother.”
Jiang Yu glared at him: “Good morning? Look what time it is.”
Chi Abei didn’t feel the slightest bit guilty about being late, leisurely sitting down behind Jiang Yu: “I accidentally overslept.”
Jiang Yu glanced at Lin Xiu: “Why are you so late too?”
Lin Xiu took out the textbook for the next class: “Same as him, overslept.”
“You overslept too?” Jiang Yu was stunned, looking at Chi Abei: “You two wouldn’t…”
Chi Abei: “I slept at Lin Xiu gege’s house last night.”
Jiang Yu: “…”
So you’re the reason he’s late?
He knew it! Lin Xiu was never late. It’s bad enough that the little fool is late, but he also drags Lin Xiu down with him. He’s truly a drag.
Seeing Jiang Yu keep looking at him, Chi Abei raised his eyebrows, giving him an “Are you envious of me?” look.
Jiang Yu’s eyes widened: “…”
What is he showing off about?
