Chapter 17: From Afar
The scarred Female stared intently at Yan Mo, his face full of malice. Lan Ze quickly noticed his ill intent. He released his S-rank mental power as a silent warning.
The scarred Female clearly didn’t take Lan Ze’s warning seriously, continuing to stare at the Male without any attempt to hide it. He looked at Yan Mo while chatting with the other Females, or perhaps he was intentionally trying to intimidate him.
“If you ask me, those Males should be snatched up and put into research labs for a good study. My whole life was ruined by Males. If Planet 1347 has a black research lab, I’ll be the first to sign up. Once they develop simulated pheromones, I’ll grab a few Males to play with myself.”
The scarred Female licked his lips as he spoke, then pointed toward Yan Mo.
“I’ll grab one just like that one…”
Lan Ze’s face turned ashen. His right hand went to his waist, drawing a laser gun and aiming it at the scarred Female’s head. His eyes were filled with a frost that felt like it wouldn’t thaw for a thousand years.
“You’re looking for death,” he roared, his voice chillingly cold.
The scarred Female laughed nonchalantly, looking at the rank on Lan Ze’s shoulder.
“So it’s a Major General of the Fourth Legion. Is the Major General acting as a dog at a Male’s feet too?”
The chill in Lan Ze’s eyes deepened. His right index finger twitched, nearly pulling the trigger.
Saiensi stepped forward and gripped Lan Ze’s arm, making him lower the gun. He then waved a hand at the soldiers behind them. A tall soldier stepped forward, pulling a device from a spatial button and scanning the scarred Female.
This was the standard identity recognition scanner used by the military during garbage planet inspections. It could quickly look up information on a Zerg by scanning their physical features.
Seeing the soldier bring out the scanner, the scarred Female—who had been leering at Yan Mo—suddenly looked very displeased. A few seconds later, the scanner pulled up his identity information. The soldier sent the details to Saiensi.
Saiensi opened his Light Brain, pulling up the scarred Female’s information and sharing it with Lan Ze.
This scarred Female was named Xi Ming. Originally, he was a noble Female on a certain second-class habitable planet. After his secondary differentiation, he was matched through the Star Net to a B-rank Male, after which he was beaten and abused daily.
Xi Ming couldn’t endure the whip and the torture. Once, when he couldn’t take the beating anymore, his mental power rioted, causing that Male to fall into a coma from his injuries. Within the Zerg race, this was an unpardonable sin.
Xi Ming was originally sentenced to death by the Male Protection Association. Later, after much maneuvering by his family, the death sentence was changed to the stripping of all his assets as compensation to the Male Lord, while he himself was exiled to Planet 1347.
Females like Xi Ming were not uncommon on Planet 1347. Many had been exiled to the garbage planet due to various crimes involving Males—such as “improper protection,” “intentional injury,” or simply being disliked by a Male who then found an excuse to seize their property and exile them.
Yan Mo couldn’t help but sigh. These Females on the garbage planet hated Males to the bone. This place truly was a perfect petri dish for an illegal underground research lab.
“Xi Ming,” Saiensi called out the scarred Female’s name.
“We sympathize with your ordeal,” he said seriously. “But if you continue to intimidate and insult a Male Lord so brazenly, you may never have the chance to leave this garbage planet.”
Xi Ming’s face stiffened. He sneered, “Do I still have a chance to leave this place? Besides, I’m free and easy here. Why would I go back? Life is much better when you don’t have to beg for mercy at a Male’s feet.”
Lan Ze sneered back, “If you dare show any more disrespect to my Male Master, you won’t have a good life even on this garbage planet.”
Yan Mo pulled at Lan Ze. Lan Ze had only followed Saiensi and the others to Planet 1347 for his sake; he shouldn’t cause trouble on his account. It was just a few glares—even if they were uncomfortable, Yan Mo just treated it as being bitten by a mad dog.
Right now, he was more concerned about something else.
“You mentioned a research team came to investigate the Interstellar Rift? Where are they?”
Yan Mo was asking the other two scavengers. They were the ones who had mentioned the rift earlier. Clearly, the two Females hadn’t expected Yan Mo to speak to them; they looked at each other in confusion and didn’t answer.
Understanding their hesitation, Yan Mo pulled a stack of Star Credits from his spatial button and waved them at the scavengers.
“They’re in the area of Blackwater Street,” a weather-beaten Female spoke up first. “That was originally disputed territory between Budi and Chris. Later, military officers from the Fourth Legion saved a Male Lord there. That place has been searched several times now, and Budi’s and Chris’s men don’t dare fight there anymore.”
Yan Mo nodded and handed him a stack of bills. Seeing this, the other scavenger swallowed hard and picked up where the first left off.
“A group of Females arrived a few days ago. They were wearing matching uniforms with characters from the Interstellar Celestial Research Center on them. After they arrived, Blackwater Street was cordoned off. All the street entrances and exits are guarded by security. We can’t get in.”
“The word is that an Interstellar Rift appeared on Blackwater Street, and that group came to study it.”
“There were already Females investigating before they arrived. I know a vendor who has a stall on Blackwater Street; he said some unknown Females have been constantly asking around for information. It seems to be related to that rescued Male Lord.”
“I’ve been on Planet 1347 for decades and have been to Blackwater Street countless times. I never heard of a Male being hidden there. It’s quite strange, really.”
“What’s so strange about it? Blackwater Street is one of the most chaotic places on Planet 1347. If there really was a black research lab, it wouldn’t be surprising if they put their base there.”
As the Female spoke, he shot a cautious glance at Yan Mo. Yan Mo didn’t react. These scavengers frequented every corner of Planet 1347; nothing that happened on the planet could escape their eyes.
Yan Mo had gotten most of the information he wanted. He pulled a few more stacks of credits from his spatial button and gave them to the Females who had provided the information.
“Let’s go,” Yan Mo said to Lan Ze.
Lan Ze didn’t bother with Xi Ming any further and followed Yan Mo.
“Lord, are you curious about the Interstellar Rift?”
“Mm. I’m just asking around, Lan Ze.”
Yan Mo suddenly stopped Lan Ze. He wanted to know how Lan Ze had saved him.
“Based on what they said, was I discovered on Blackwater Street?”
“Yes, Lord.”
Yan Mo asked tentatively, “Then how did you find me? And how did I end up on Blackwater Street? Was I dumped there by someone, or…”
Did I just appear there suddenly?
Lan Ze saw the Male’s somewhat uneasy face and wanted to pull him into his arms and tell him that he would protect him. He wanted to tell him not to worry and that he would never let him be in such a dangerous position again. But he was afraid his actions would offend the Male, and in the end, he didn’t take that step. He only comforted him as softly as he could.
“Lord, when I discovered you, I had the soldiers cordon off and search Blackwater Street. Unfortunately, the place is a melting pot, and we couldn’t find out when you appeared there. We weren’t able to find the culprit who harmed you.”
“I see.” Yan Mo gave a casual reply.
He was now almost certain that he had transmigrated here through the Interstellar Rift.
