Zerg: Gloomy Major General, Stop Acting Obedient, My Head Hurts! Chapter 19

Chapter 19: Back to the Jiang House

He ate slowly, bite by bite, until the food was completely gone.

He cherished it.

It was unclear whether he was treasuring the sentiment behind the meal or the food itself.

Jiang Xu lay in bed, and for once, he didn’t fall asleep the moment his head hit the pillow.

His thoughts drifted uncontrollably toward the Cichong downstairs.

“No, this won’t do. Go to sleep early.” He remembered the message he had received that afternoon; tomorrow, there were even more troublesome matters to deal with.

Yet, despite commanding himself to sleep, he remained wide awake.

The sound of a door closing came from the next room; he knew the Cichong had returned to his own bedroom.

“Sigh—” For the first time in half a month, Jiang Xu let out an audible sigh. It wasn’t for his own predicament, nor was it about whether he could ever return home.

This sigh was purely for the Cichong next door.

The next day.

Standing before the gates of the Jiang family mansion, Jiang Xu felt a wave of complex emotions.

In the past half-month, that text message from yesterday afternoon was the first time this “home” had contacted him.

After avoiding it for two weeks, he finally had to face it.

After parking the flyer, Fei walked up to stand slightly behind Jiang Xu. “Xiongzhu.”

This was also his first time coming to the Jiang house and his first time meeting other members of the family.

Both bugs were lost in their own thoughts, though neither knew what the other was thinking.

“Mm. Let’s go in.”

Jiang Xu started walking toward the Jiang villa, with Fei following a step behind him.

The mystery of the Jiang family was finally unveiled before Jiang Xu’s eyes: it was a massive estate.

Massive!

If the Jiang family home back on Earth was an apartment, then the Zerg Jiang family was an entire skyscraper.

In the Zerg capital, there was actually an estate this large.

Perhaps the only thing comparable would be the Imperial Palace.

The decor of the estate wasn’t the opulence he had imagined; instead, it carried a faint sense of decadence and mystery.

An European-style manor, with deep grey and cream-colored walls reflecting each other, dotted with various plants.

However, Jiang Xu noticed the rose vines climbing the iron trellises were growing half-dead, as if complaining.

“……..” Hadn’t they said the Jiang family was incredibly wealthy? Why did he feel this place looked like the Old Summer Palace after being looted?

How should he put it? It lacked vitality.

“Dilapidated” might be a more fitting description.

“Young Master, you’re back.” The butler spotted Jiang Xu in front of the villa and walked straight toward him, completely ignoring Fei following behind.

“Mm,” Jiang Xu replied.

“The Master has been waiting for you inside for a long time.” The butler led Jiang Xu toward the inner house.

After walking a short distance, he finally realized there was someone else behind Jiang Xu.

Upon closer inspection, he realized it was that Cichong.

“Are you… Master Fei?”

Fei was used to being ignored, but he hadn’t expected the other to suddenly address him.

“Hello.” Fei found it strange.

Since the marriage, he hadn’t met a single member of the Jiang family. Clearly, they viewed the marriage as dispensable.

Yet, the butler’s tone didn’t sound like that was the case.

“I only just noticed you. You’ve returned today as well.” The butler’s face broke into a wider smile.

“Mm.” Fei noticed the butler seemed a bit overly enthusiastic.

“The Master is just inside. I will leave the two of you here.” The butler bowed to both of them and then turned to go about his business.

Jiang Xu looked at the closed door, pushed it open, and walked in.

The entrance of Jiang Xu and Fei interrupted the conversation inside.

The three bugs sitting there all looked over at them.

Sitting in the center seat was a Cichong with slightly greying hair. Upon seeing them, he walked over with a kind smile.

“Cizu.” Jiang Xu greeted.

“Cizu.” Fei followed suit.

The Cizu opened his arms as he approached, appearing as if he wanted to give them a hug.

Jiang Xu thought awkwardly: I remember Zoe mentioned the old man was quite strict with him? He’s suddenly changed his temperament.

“You must be little Fei.” Zolan placed his hands on Fei’s shoulders and patted them kindly. “I didn’t expect you to have grown so much.”

This moment left both Jiang Xu and Fei stunned.

Noticing the look Jiang Xu was giving him, Zolan’s expression turned significantly more serious. “Go talk to your Xiongfu and Cifu for a while.”

Turning back to Fei, he continued, “Come, follow Grandfather. Let’s have a good chat about your affairs.”

“Mm.” Fei felt the other’s hands were warm, soft, and comfortable.

He couldn’t break away from this gentleness.

Jiang Xu had no idea what was happening and could only follow his Cizu’s request, walking over to the two bugs sitting on the sofa.

“Xiongfu, Cifu.”

“Mm.” Jiang Cheng gave a brief acknowledgment and said nothing more.

“You child, why are you so stubborn? Staying away for so long just to spite your Cizu.” Joe stood up and patted Jiang Xu’s shoulder.

“This matter was decided many years ago. We couldn’t change it either. Haven’t we already secured the best rights for you?”

Initially, Zolan had ordered Jiang Xu to marry Fei as his Cijun, but Jiang Xu’s reaction had been so extreme that it was eventually downgraded to Cishi.

This way, the position was minor and wouldn’t affect much.

If he truly didn’t like it, he could completely ignore the other’s existence.

At this point, Jiang Cheng suddenly spoke: “I heard you’ve been living with that Cichong for the past half-month.”

It sounded like a question, but he had already confirmed it.

“Mm.” Jiang Xu hesitated for a moment, knowing the other must have known before asking.

“Weren’t you very repulsed by this marriage?” Joe tapped Jiang Xu’s head with his finger. At the time, his son had been the one making the biggest fuss. “Why did you suddenly go over there?”

“……..” Jiang Xu really wanted to give him an answer, but he was afraid he’d be beaten to death if he said it aloud.

The family of three glanced at the two Cichong who were some distance away. After confirming they couldn’t hear, Joe continued:

“You didn’t do anything reckless, did you?”

They understood their son’s personality; if he didn’t want to do something, no one could force him.

Only this marriage had gone against his wishes.

“I don’t think so,” Jiang Xu responded after a moment’s hesitation.

“What do you mean ‘you don’t think so’? Either you did or you didn’t.” If he had truly messed up, Joe feared he wouldn’t be able to stop the Cizu.

Joe stole another glance at the two Cichong in the distance. They seemed to be talking fine.

There was no sign of a “settling of scores” atmosphere.

“Then, no.” Jiang Xu thought to himself that he wasn’t going to take responsibility for what the original owner had done.

Besides, from beginning to end, he had only kicked the other once due to a misunderstanding, and he had reduced the force of that kick by seventy or eighty percent once he saw the wounds on the other’s body.

“That’s good then. Otherwise, neither I nor your Xiongfu would be able to protect you. You know your Xiongzu’s status in this house.”

Although Jiang Mian had passed away long ago, his shadow still lingered everywhere in this home.

Zolan seemed to be perpetually wrapped in memories, unwilling to leave.

This was why a marriage that could have been avoided was now…

Joe looked at Jiang Xu. “Your Cizu and Xiongzu both love you dearly. Just consider it doing it for them.”

He checked Jiang Xu’s reaction after speaking and found that the other no longer reacted as strongly as before.

“Have you… fallen for that Cichong?”

“……..” Jiang Xu was stunned by the question and instinctively retorted, “No.”
