Chapter 72: Simply Scandalous
Mu Feng froze. Those words sounded more like sleep-talking.
For an Alpha in his rut, marking was an instinct. He must have been afraid of his own impulses, which is why he even wore the muzzle to sleep as a precaution.
“If only I were a real Omega.” Mu Feng raised his hand, touching the man’s black hair and patting it very gently.
Liang Yuhang tightened his grip on his waist, burying his head deeper into the crook of his neck.
He was more clingy than Mu Feng had imagined during this period.
Mu Feng thought that since Liang Yuhang couldn’t smell anything, he must be very irritable.
If he had known, he would have brought the pseudo-pheromones with him. At least they could have offered a bit of comfort.
“Don’t move,” Liang Yuhang said in a raspy voice.
Mu Feng stayed still, feeling like a large lion was buried in his arms, restless and uneasy.
He gently patted the man’s back, over and over, until they both fell asleep together.
Liang Yuhang woke up early. He felt himself in a very warm embrace. He opened his eyes, his vision blurry, feeling his cheek pressed against soft, delicate skin.
Did I sleep while holding Mu Feng all night?
The rut wouldn’t pass that quickly. He lowered his eyes, his nose twitching slightly. He could smell nothing.
“You’re quite stingy with your pheromones now,” Liang Yuhang said in a low voice. “The bracelet is buckled so tight.”
He held the boy for a while after waking up before getting up to wash in the bathroom. When he came out, Mu Feng was still asleep.
He stepped out of the room first and ran into Zhang Luyan. “Where’s Mu Feng?”
“Not awake yet. Let him sleep a bit longer; he’s been too tired these past two days,” Liang Yuhang said.
Zhang Luyan clicked his tongue. “So you know how to feel bad for him now? Wasn’t it you who worked him to exhaustion? We’re in a war zone and you still can’t behave, even triggering your rut.”
Liang Yuhang: “…………”
He wanted to explain that it was due to the heavy workload, but he had indeed used Mu Feng to resolve his restlessness. He felt a bit guilty.
Zhang Luyan snorted. “I hit the mark. I didn’t expect you to be this kind of person.”
Liang Yuhang changed the subject. “I don’t have surgeries today. I’ll stay with you all.”
“Oh, can’t bear to leave your wife’s side for a second? I didn’t expect you to be this kind of person,” Zhang Luyan mocked mercilessly.
Liang Yuhang frowned. “Teacher, if you keep talking like that, I’ll have to use a needle to sew your mouth shut.”
“Insolent! You’re a disgrace to our sect!” Zhang Luyan reached out to swat him.
The commotion was so loud that Mu Feng was woken up. He crawled out blearily and opened the door. Seeing the two of them, he let out a yawn. “Morning.”
His hair was a mess, and so were his clothes. Because Liang Yuhang had been buried in his neck all night, there was a deep red mark on his collarbone, of which he was completely unaware.
Liang Yuhang reached out and pulled the boy’s collar up. “Morning. Time for work.”
Zhang Luyan practically couldn’t bear to watch. He shook his head as he walked away. “The world is declining, morality is decaying… our sect is finished!”
Mu Feng blinked in confusion. “What is Professor Zhang muttering about? Are you feeling any better?”
Liang Yuhang gave a hum of affirmation. “Just a little better.”
“Then you aren’t fully recovered. You need to be careful today too.” Mu Feng grew nervous. “It’s fine. I’m not very busy today. If you need it, I can…”
He opened his mouth and pointed to himself.
The images from yesterday came rushing back.
Liang Yuhang’s watch began to alert him: [Hormonal imbalance. Please take note.]
How can someone talk about such things as if they were as mundane as washing one’s face or eating a meal? Liang Yuhang’s temples throbbed.
Should he praise the boy for being innocent or call him stupid?
Innocent? He knew everything he should and his technique was actually quite good. But to talk like this with an Alpha—if that wasn’t stupid, what was?
“Hormones are imbalanced. Should we do it now?” Mu Feng asked with a serious face.
“Don’t bring it up again.” Liang Yuhang closed his eyes. “Change your clothes and let’s go.”
He had been perfectly fine, but a single sentence from Mu Feng had thrown him into chaos. His self-control had never been this poor before.
Liang Yuhang stood outside to catch the breeze for a while until he calmed down.
When Mu Feng came out in his fresh clothes, the two of them walked downstairs side-by-side.
“I observed the patients yesterday and noticed that the current wound-bonding agents are still a bit slow. They look like they’re in a lot of pain,” Mu Feng said. “Is there a possibility of combining current bonding agents with growth factors to speed up the process?”
Liang Yuhang said, “That would increase the price significantly. The military has to consider costs.”
“True. Or maybe combining bonding agents with Prism? That’s cheaper. But it would need experimental testing; we can’t just use it on the wounded.” Mu Feng immediately adjusted his thinking.
“You’re truly suited for pharmaceutical research.” Liang Yuhang turned to look at him. “Consider this: after our time at the base is over, apply for a work-study program at the school and enter the company.”
Mu Feng was stunned. “Me? Which company? I don’t think I’d be welcome at either of them.”
He was like a ball being kicked back and forth between the Mu and Liang families. No one likely wanted him.
Liang Yuhang thought for a moment. “I’ll write you a recommendation letter. Go to the research institute first. Develop patents and snatch away part of the Mu and Liang families’ business. I’ll give you resources. When the time is ripe, you can take over the industries of both families.”
It was a bold and arrogant idea, one Mu Feng had never even considered.
But coming from Liang Yuhang’s mouth, it felt strangely full of hope.
Liang Yuhang observed his expression. “Are you afraid? What’s there to fear with me by your side?”
Mu Feng’s lips moved. “I’ll follow your lead.”
He’s obedient at a time like this. Liang Yuhang smiled. “It’s not a short-term project. For now, just focus your mind on research.”
Mu Feng nodded. With someone standing by his side, he felt at peace.
Later that day, Jin Ling arrived. Likely due to the reagents from yesterday, he looked pale despite being fully masked.
Mu Feng lightly touched the back of Liang Yuhang’s hand. “He’s here.”
“Take him to my office,” Liang Yuhang whispered. “I’ll be there in a moment.”
“Xiao Jiang, help me keep an eye on things here. I’m heading out for a bit,” Mu Feng said, turning his head.
Jiang Yu’an’s keen senses detected something was off. “Why have you two been so secretive lately? What kind of conspiracy are you cooking up?”
“What conspiracy? We’re saving lives. Focus,” Mu Feng said, patting him. “Don’t get distracted.”
After speaking, he went back to the room to grab two tubes of slow-release agent before heading to the office.
“The three days aren’t up, yet you’re here so early. It seems the reagents are making you very uncomfortable.” Mu Feng appeared calmer than the other party.
Jin Ling sat on the sofa, leaning against the side. “Give me the slow-release agent.”
“You need to provide useful information. Wait a bit; Professor Liang will be here soon,” Mu Feng said.
Jin Ling was stunned that the two of them trusted each other to this extent.
He had been Liang Jingyi’s bed partner for three years—three years of being called when needed and discarded when not.
Liang Jingyi had used him to seduce Liang Yuhang without a second thought; his heart was as cold as iron.
And yet he still liked him. He liked such a piece of trash.
“Let me ask first: are you and Liang Jingyi bed partners?” Mu Feng went straight to the point. “He’s a contemptible person, but he isn’t stupid. He wouldn’t find someone he didn’t trust for this. You were the best option.”
Having his secret exposed, Jin Ling’s eyelashes fluttered. “And if we are?”
“How piteous.” Mu Feng looked down at him. “You’ve fallen for him, haven’t you? It’s not worth it for someone like that.”
“It’s not your place to judge my private life.” Jin Ling lowered his head, enduring the pain from the reagents. “How much longer will Liang Yuhang be?”
Mu Feng turned toward the door as Liang Yuhang pushed it open. Liang Yuhang smiled and said, “Come then, Judge.”
Yesterday, because of the drugs, Liang Yuhang hadn’t looked very intimidating. Now, with every step he took, the pressure in the room increased.
“I’ve seen you before, in Liang Jingyi’s car.” Liang Yuhang walked closer, looking down at him. “He really went all out, sending his own lover over.”
Jin Ling, unable to bear the pain any longer, spoke up, “In a few days, you have a public lecture. He plans to release the photos then. That’s all I’ve found out. Can I have the slow-release agent now?”
Mu Feng leaned down, lifted the hem of the boy’s shirt, and cleanly administered an injection. His technique was practiced. “This will only last three days. You still need to do something else for me.”
“You said last time that you’d give me the cure if I found out the next step.” Jin Ling frowned, his pretty face looking quite piteous.
Mu Feng’s lips curled. “How can you be so dim-witted, sweetheart? You’ve used such underhanded tactics; do you really think I wouldn’t keep a backup plan?”
Liang Yuhang turned his head toward Mu Feng. This was likely his true personality.
Just like the night of the sneak attack, when he coldly stated he wanted to find and kill the intruder.
Beneath the soft exterior were sharp thorns.
It was quite cute. Liang Yuhang didn’t mind this discrepancy between appearance and reality.
He didn’t offer his own opinion, acting as if the impending scandal had nothing to do with him. He teased, “Then what does Professor Mu think we should do?”
Mu Feng felt his ears burn at that title.
He rubbed his ear before he could speak, then gave Jin Ling a very bold command: “Those photos can’t be retracted now, right? Use technology to swap your face with mine. You should be able to manage that.”
Jin Ling: “…………”
Thinking outside the box, disregarding his own reputation… he is a literal genius.
Liang Yuhang laughed now, his lips curving slightly. “You’re planning to go public with our ‘bedroom photos’? Aren’t you shy?”
