Chapter 140: Parting
“Take these snacks to eat on the road,” Grandpa handed a large bag of snacks through the car window into Cheng Ge’s hands. “Whenever you have time, come back and visit. Grandpa will kill a chicken for you.”
“Okay, Grandpa, take care of your health. Remember to use that health monitor. Once holidays start, Wen-zai and I will come back.”
“Good, good, you guys take care too, don’t stay up late too much…”
The car started. Cheng Ge pulled Wen Ling to wave goodbye to Grandpa. Grandpa waved back, following the car for a few steps before shouting after them, “Come home often!”
“We know!” Cheng Ge kept looking back at Grandpa’s figure until it disappeared from sight, then sat up straight.
Cheng Ge held Wen Ling’s hand, his thumb massaging Wen Ling’s palm, not saying a word.
Wen Ling kept watching Cheng Ge. Suddenly, he threw his arms around him, holding Cheng Ge’s waist tightly, resting his forehead against Cheng Ge’s shoulder, also without speaking.
But Cheng Ge knew what Wen Ling was “saying”.
Saying Cheng Ge looks a bit sad?
Why are you sad?
Let me hug you.
Cheng Ge, don’t be sad anymore.
“I’m fine.” Cheng Ge rested his chin on the top of Wen Ling’s head.
It was just that parting made him feel a bit down.
A week had passed since New Year’s Eve. Going back to the villa was Cheng Ge’s idea.
Grandpa asked why they were in such a hurry. Cheng Ge said they needed to go back and pack, preparing to return to school.
“Isn’t there still over half a month?” Grandpa frowned, definitely not wanting his grandson to leave.
“There’s a lot to do, need to prepare in advance,” Cheng Ge was already packing things up then.
But there wasn’t really much to pack. He only took a couple of outfits, leaving the rest behind to give Grandpa peace of mind.
“We’ll come back as soon as holidays start.”
Wen Ling didn’t ask why. Wherever Cheng Ge wanted to go, he’d go. He could be anywhere, as long as Cheng Ge was there.
The villa was far from Grandpa’s village; it took over four hours by car in total.
Returning to the villa, they briefly cleaned the rooms, changed the bed sheets, and took showers before Cheng Ge hugged Wen Ling to prepare for bed.
Wen Ling didn’t intentionally cause a fuss; he just proactively kissed Cheng Ge and rubbed his back before Cheng Ge fell asleep.
The two slept for a long time. When Wen Ling woke up, Cheng Ge wasn’t by his side, and the blankets were already cold. It gave him a fright.
In a panic, not even putting on his shoes, he ran to the kitchen. Seeing Cheng Ge’s back, he finally breathed a slight sigh of relief.
Actually, Wen Ling no longer felt the sensation of “not being able to hold on” recently.
Cheng Ge hugged him and kissed him every day, saying he liked him, saying he loved him. Wen Ling was soaked in warm love every day.
It was just that Cheng Ge had been acting a little strange yesterday, so he was scared.
Wen Ling would probably always be a startled bird, where the slightest change left him panicked and at a loss.
“Cheng Ge…” Wen Ling ran over and hugged Cheng Ge’s waist, pressing his face against his back.
“Hey, hey, careful with your hands, it’s hot.” Cheng Ge was also startled by Wen Ling. He leaned back a bit and steadied the salt in his hand.
“It won’t be, I’m stuck to you.”
Wen Ling wasn’t just being glib this time. He was hugging him quite tightly, and his tone sounded abnormal.
Cheng Ge froze, put down the salt, turned off the stove, and turned around while staying close to Wen Ling.
Cheng Ge cupped Wen Ling’s face and rubbed it, asking softly, “What’s wrong with our Little Wen?”
“I don’t know,” Wen Ling’s mouth pouted slightly. “I was a little scared.”
Cheng Ge hugged him back. “Scared of what? I’m right here.”
Wen Ling buried his head straight into Cheng Ge’s chest, his voice muffled: “Mhm.”
Cheng Ge sighed internally. He simply picked Wen Ling up, supporting him securely, and nuzzled the crook of his neck. “What are you up to?”
Wen Ling’s arms had instinctively wrapped around Cheng Ge’s neck, but he was surprised, terrified of hurting Cheng Ge’s leg: “Cheng Ge, don’t, your leg will hurt.”
“It’s fine, I have something to lean on behind me, that leg isn’t bearing much weight.”
He smiled, his lips pressing against Wen Ling’s cheek: “Listen to that tone, it’s like you’re the one whose leg hurts.”
Knowing Cheng Ge’s leg was fine, Wen Ling clung to him like a koala, his legs wrapped around Cheng Ge, his head resting on Cheng Ge’s shoulder, tilting his head to look at him.
“If you hurt, then I hurt too.”
“Such a sweet talker,” Cheng Ge nudged him with his nose. One hand slid down to Wen Ling’s ankle—it was cool—and then to his foot—it was completely ice-cold.
“Not wearing socks again, and now not even wearing shoes, right?” Cheng Ge bit Wen Ling playfully. “If you catch a cold like this again, I’m making you drink really bitter medicine.”
Now that Wen Ling felt secure holding onto someone, his mouth became sharp again. He completely ignored Cheng Ge’s empty threat that would never happen. “But I was anxious, are you going to blame me?”
Blame, blame, blame, blame my ass. How could Cheng Ge ever bear to blame him?
Cheng Ge’s teeth itched with frustration. He bit Wen Ling’s earlobe, took off his own fuzzy slippers, placed Wen Ling’s feet on the carpet, and gave Wen Ling’s butt a light smack.
“Alright, get down, go wear my shoes, give them back later.”
“I don’t want to…” Wen Ling brought out his relentless clinging energy again.
“Let me hug you a bit longer, don’t you miss me?”
Cheng Ge’s ears instantly flushed red. “Can… can you watch your phrasing?”
Wen Ling didn’t understand Cheng Ge’s inner turmoil, genuinely thinking Cheng Ge was just picking a fight out of nowhere. He rubbed hard against Cheng Ge. “But I really miss you, you’re not allowed to pick a fight.”
Fuck…
Cheng Ge ignored him. Who was the one picking a fight out of nowhere here…
Cheng Ge’s leg was currently only capable of small movements without support; for longer distances, he still needed crutches or someone to hold onto.
Otherwise, Wen Ling would have been thrown onto the bed to cry by now.
Wen Ling clung to Cheng Ge affectionately for quite a while before getting down, afraid of hurting his leg.
Wearing Cheng Ge’s slippers, he went clomp, clomp, clomp back to the bedroom.
Cheng Ge turned the stove back on. Not long after, Wen Ling clomp, clomp, clomp returned, carrying Cheng Ge’s slippers.
He told Cheng Ge to lift his foot so he could help him put the slippers back on.
Who could possibly stay mad at such a sweet boyfriend?
After stir-frying the rice noodles, Cheng Ge scooped a plateful and placed it on the dining table, telling Wen Ling to “try it.”
Wen Ling took a bite, furrowed his brow, and turned his round eyes toward Cheng Ge. “It’s so salty.”
“Know why?” Cheng Ge had Wen Ling take a sip of warm water.
Wen Ling: “Why?”
Cheng Ge gritted his teeth slightly: “When you bumped into me earlier, I was adding salt.”
“I was hugging you.” Wen Ling corrected.
Cheng Ge couldn’t help but laugh. He flicked Wen Ling’s forehead. “Next time you hug me that hard, give me a heads up.”
Wen Ling’s eyes darted left and right, deliberately avoiding Cheng Ge’s gaze, acting like it wasn’t his fault.
Cheng Ge was dying of laughter from Wen Ling’s antics. He went into the kitchen and brought out a small pot of plain congee.
“But I also made plain congee. You can mix the fried rice noodles with the congee.”
Wen Ling’s face scrunched up. “Ah… that’s weird.”
“The internet says it’s a perfect match. I tasted it earlier, it’s actually pretty good.”
Wen Ling believed whatever Cheng Ge said. He scooped a bowl of congee, mixed in a few chopsticks of rice noodles, and found the taste was indeed acceptable, not the culinary disaster he imagined.
Cheng Ge: “Do you want me to add a tiny bit of sugar for you?”
“Yes.”
Wen Ling liked a bit of sweetness in his food, so Cheng Ge would add a few grains of sugar to what he ate, giving it a subtle sweetness.
Cheng Ge: “Is it good?”
Wen Ling: “It’s good.”
After eating, the two quickly gave the house a simple sweep, leaving the rest to the cleaning robot, and then curled up on the sofa to be affectionate.
Cheng Ge’s phone pinged. He glanced at the screen and said, “Wang Lei and the others invited us out to eat tomorrow.”
“Do you want to go?”
