Chapter 141: Good Brothers
Wen Ling: “If Cheng Ge wants to go, then I want to go.”
Cheng Ge laughed softly: “Then we’ll head out tomorrow afternoon at five, alright?”
“Okay.”
The dinner gathering was suggested by Wang Lei and a few other roommates.
Knowing that Cheng Ge and Wen Ling had returned, they felt they had to meet up.
When getting into the car, Wen Ling kept looking at his phone, glancing between his phone and Cheng Ge. It was obvious he had something on his mind.
On the ninth time Wen Ling’s eyes darted toward Cheng Ge, Cheng Ge pinched his chin and asked in a low voice, “What are you doing?”
“Nothing.”
“Who are you chatting with?”
“Ji Ji.”
Cheng Ge raised an eyebrow: “What has he taught you this time?”
Wen Ling’s eyes curved like crescent moons: “He hasn’t taught me anything.”
“Do you think I believe that?”
“Believe it.”
Cheng Ge feigned a fierce expression and pinched the tip of Wen Ling’s nose, feeling helpless.
Wen Ling always managed to completely wrap him around his finger without even realizing it.
The location for the dinner was a farmhouse restaurant. Since there were many people out having fun, the traffic was heavy, causing Cheng Ge and Wen Ling to be about ten minutes late. By the time they arrived, it was already dark.
The restaurant was crowded and noisy, giving it the atmosphere of a bustling food stall.
As soon as they arrived, Wang Lei joked that Cheng Ge had to penalize himself with a drink, and adding his good brother Wen Ling’s share, he had to penalize himself with two drinks.
Normally, Cheng Ge would just ignore the guy, but he was in a good mood today, so he actually grabbed a glass and downed it.
Wang Lei: “Wow, a true man.”
Cheng Ge held back a laugh and rolled his eyes at him, “Tastes terrible.”
“No taste, classic Erguotou.” Wang Lei poured Cheng Ge another full glass, hyping him up excessively, “A true man.”
“You’re crazy.” Cheng Ge laughed and cursed at Wang Lei. He picked up the glass and was just about to drink it when Wen Ling tugged at his sleeve.
Wen Ling frowned: “You can’t drink that much.”
“It’s fine, just this once.”
“The doctor said no.”
Cheng Ge smiled helplessly and actually put the glass down.
The restaurant was a bit noisy, and the two were speaking so softly that their words couldn’t be heard, but every detail of what had just happened had been seen by the other three.
First, Zhang Fan rested his forehead against the back of his hand, laughing both subtly and openly.
Recalling the scene just now, Cheng Ge also felt a bit embarrassed; they acted like an old married couple.
But could he let those little brats laugh at him? Absolutely not.
“What the hell are you laughing at?” Cheng Ge glared at Zhang Fan, which only made Zhang Fan laugh harder, shaking his head continuously.
Seeing Zhang Fan laughing, Wang Lei and Lin Hai naturally had to join in mocking their roommate, although the source of their amusement was different.
Zhang Fan understood everything, laughing at the tsundere Little Cheng being “hen-pecked,” completely subdued.
Lin Hai half-understood and laughed along.
Wang Lei understood nothing and was purely stirring the pot because his skin was itching for a beating.
“Fake man.” Wang Lei tried to provoke Cheng Ge.
Cheng Ge: “Idiot.”
Wang Lei rarely heard Cheng Ge swear, and was a bit surprised: “Damn, why does that feel kinda satisfying?”
Cheng Ge: “…”
When the dishes arrived, everyone changed the topic, inevitably asking about Cheng Ge and Wen Ling’s experiences.
Cheng Ge just spoke simply. The whole matter was both simple and complicated; there were too many interests involved behind the scenes.
A few days ago, Cheng Ge got news from the system that Lin Yuchen was dead, and there was absolutely no mistake.
Lin Yuchen had tried to escape using a bait-and-switch, dealing them a blow before he left, but ultimately, he failed to escape.
There was a plane crash, and rescue efforts were ineffective.
The note provided by 001 read: “Evil people will be tormented by their own kind.”
This meant that there were people who refused to let Lin Yuchen off. This surely involved the entanglements of those family powers and interests, which had nothing to do with Cheng Ge and Wen Ling, and they couldn’t interfere anyway.
In the end, this matter truly ended quietly just like that.
“Eat some food first.” Seeing Wen Ling constantly staring at his phone, occasionally replying to a few messages, and not eating much, Cheng Ge couldn’t help but speak up.
“Oh.” Wen Ling put down his phone and ate all the food Cheng Ge had placed in his bowl.
Wen Ling was always completely defenseless against Cheng Ge. With the phone screen on and placed right in front of Cheng Ge, it was hard for him not to see.
Wen Ling was learning things from his Teacher Ji Ji again.
Only the specific content was unclear, because Teacher Ji Ji had flooded the screen with over a dozen perverted sticker packs.
Cheng Ge: “Do you want to drink this juice? It’s warm (wen-wen de).”
Wen Ling: “Wen-wen de?”
Cheng Ge didn’t understand the confusion and didn’t hear anything wrong: “Yeah?”
“Mine?” Wen Ling asked again.
Cheng Ge didn’t get it at first. Recalling his previous words, he realized Wen Ling had misunderstood, but he still played along with Wen Ling’s words, laughing: “Yeah, it’s Wen-wen’s.”
Wen Ling picked up the cup of warm juice and gulped it down, “It’s good.”
Cheng Ge poured another cup for Wen Ling. Before he even put the pitcher down, he heard ‘that guy’ Zhang say “Aiya,” his tone full of emotion.
He kept shaking his head as he looked at Cheng Ge, the curve of his lips way too obvious.
With Zhang Fan acting like this, Wang Lei and Lin Hai definitely had to copy him. They both looked at Cheng Ge, said “Aiya~,” and shook their heads over and over.
Cheng Ge: “…”
Wen Ling: “?”
Cheng Ge: “If you’re sick, go get treated.”
Zhang Fan: “Sigh~”
Wang Lei, Lin Hai: “Sigh~”
With them acting like this, Cheng Ge actually felt embarrassed. Helpless, he lowered his head and suppressed a laugh.
The meal continued. As it was nearing the end, Wen Ling suddenly tugged at Cheng Ge’s sleeve.
Cheng Ge leaned his head closer to listen, and heard Wen Ling say, “There’s a handsome guy over there.”
Cheng Ge: “?”
When Wen Ling said there was a handsome guy over there, his eyes were completely glued to Cheng Ge, without pointing out which “there” he meant.
So much so that it looked like he was saying Cheng Ge was the handsome guy.
Cheng Ge: “Did you learn cheesy pickup lines from Ji Ji?”
Wen Ling’s brow furrowed slightly: “I’m not saying pickup lines, I’m saying there’s a handsome guy over there, quite handsome.”
“Where?” Cheng Ge was extremely curious. Anyone who could make Wen Ling think they were handsome must be devastatingly attractive.
Wen Ling’s eyes darted around quickly, “I just saw a lot of handsome guys.”
“A lot?” Cheng Ge frowned.
Wen Ling nodded: “Mhm, mhm, mhm.”
Cheng Ge’s expression became curious again: “Where?”
Where did all these handsome guys come from?
Wen Ling was dying of anxiety. How would he know where the handsome guys were? Cheng Ge’s reaction was completely different from what Ji Ji said it would be.
What about being jealous?
What about overflowing possessiveness?
What about giving him a good scolding when they get back?
“How come everyone else is looking at pretty girls, but our Little Wen wants to look at handsome guys?” Before Wen Ling could finish panicking, Wang Lei chimed in to cause trouble.
“Hey? Our Little Wen doesn’t have a girlfriend, huh?” Wang Lei had drunk some alcohol, and his thinking was a bit erratic, “I’ll introduce you to some.”
Cheng Ge slowly drank a cup of alcohol, looking at Wang Lei as if he were an idiot.
Wang Lei “understood,” patting his chest: “I’ll introduce one to you too.”
“I don’t want one.” Wen Ling said.
“Don’t be so quick to refuse. My cousin graduated from a prestigious university, has money and looks, and a great personality. She’s been going on blind dates recently, and it seems she likes your type.”
Wen Ling: “I don’t like anyone else, I…”
“Hey,” Wang Lei turned his face away, holding up a hand to stop Wen Ling’s words, acting all knowing, “No one falls in love right from the start. Feelings have to be cultivated, right? As the saying goes, time reveals a person’s heart…”
Feelings can be cultivated.
Time reveals a person’s heart.
Cheng Ge listened, his eyelashes lowered, and drank another cup of alcohol.
Wen Ling didn’t understand anything about time revealing a person’s heart; he only liked Cheng Ge.
But Wang Lei was looking at him with such a hopeful expression. Not knowing what to say for a moment, he could only turn his head and cast his gaze back toward Cheng Ge.
Wang Lei smiled at Cheng Ge: “Cheng Ge, no need to rush, I’ll introduce you later.”
Cheng Ge: “…”
Cheng Ge: “Bro, you just stop right there.”
Wang Lei: “Ah, okay.”
Cheng Ge pulled Wen Ling closer, took his hand, and held it up in front of Wang Lei: “What are we doing?”
Wang Lei: “Holding hands.”
Cheng Ge: “What’s my relationship with Wen Ling?”
Wang Lei: “Good brothers.”
Cheng Ge: “…”
Cheng Ge changed their grip to interlock their fingers, “What about like this?”
Wang Lei: “Interlocking fingers. You guys are always so affectionate.”
Cheng Ge: “…Then what’s my relationship with Wen Ling?”
Wang Lei was completely baffled. He thought for a moment: “The best of brothers.”
