Chapter 24: Emergency News
Ever since Yan Mo had become able to freely control his pheromones, he could acutely sense the condition of Lan Ze’s mental domain.
Lan Ze’s mental domain was in a terrible state. Had his mental power rank not been remarkably high, he would have suffered a complete mental riot long ago.
During his first period of mental power instability, Yan Mo had given almost all of his pheromones to Lan Ze.
His mental domain had undergone a single purification by Yan Mo’s pheromones.
However, Yan Mo’s current pheromones were not yet strong enough to completely cleanse Lan Ze’s mental domain; for Lan Ze, it was merely a drop in the bucket.
To Yan Mo’s senses, Lan Ze’s mental domain still remained severely polluted.
Yan Mo suddenly thought of the information regarding Lan Ze he had read on the Star Net.
“I remember that you are an S-rank Female. If I fail to differentiate into a high-level Male of B-rank or above, does that mean I won’t be able to treat you?”
Lan Ze blinked but said nothing.
In truth, the initial reason Admiral Lan Hechen had insisted Lan Ze apply for Yan Mo’s guardianship was twofold. First, Lan Ze’s hostile attitude toward Males had resulted in him being blacklisted by nearly every high-level Male on the Capital Star.
Second, Admiral Lan Hechen himself had married the A-rank Male Lu Min. Lu Min hailed from Capital Star nobility, and Admiral Lan Hechen had suffered immensely throughout their marriage. If possible, he desperately did not want his own cub to repeat his tragic mistakes.
An ordinary Male with no background and a handsome face, who had not yet undergone his secondary differentiation and owed Lan Ze a life debt—such a Male, regardless of whether he could eventually differentiate into a high-level Male, would undoubtedly be far easier for the Lan Clan to control than your average Male.
This was a gamble on Admiral Lan Hechen’s part.
Based on Lan Ze’s understanding of his Female Father, if Yan Mo failed to differentiate into a high-level Male, Lan Hechen would certainly offer Yan Mo a vast sum of wealth, bribing him to sever the guardianship with Lan Ze.
Yan Mo found his answer in Lan Ze’s silence.
It seemed he needed to work hard. Yan Mo could not personally empathize with the agony of mental power pollution, but judging by the Female he had seen insectify right in front of him, it was undoubtedly excruciating.
He didn’t want Lan Ze to remain trapped in such constant pain.
According to the Star Net, pheromones could be trained. The stronger one’s control over their pheromones before secondary differentiation, the higher their pheromone rank would climb after the differentiation was complete.
But how exactly did one train their pheromones?
Yan Mo began browsing through the data on the Star Net.
Seeing that Lan Ze had remained quiet, Yan Mo suddenly paused, his thoughts turning to Admiral Lan Hechen. He asked anxiously, “If I can’t differentiate into a high-level Male, will Admiral Lan Hechen force you to leave me?”
Just as before, Admiral Lan Hechen had applied for Yan Mo’s guardianship on Lan Ze’s behalf specifically to treat his own cub’s mental pollution. If Yan Mo couldn’t heal Lan Ze’s mental domain, the Admiral would undoubtedly find a way to replace him with a more suitable Male.
Lan Ze nodded, confirming Yan Mo’s suspicions.
“My Female Father… he does it all for my own good.”
Yan Mo felt his heart turn to ice. He tightly grasped Lan Ze’s hand, securely locking the Female in place.
“What about you? If I don’t differentiate into a high-level Male, are you going to leave me?”
Lan Ze suppressed the slight upward curve of his lips. He raised his head, his azure eyes gazing tenderly at Yan Mo.
“But, My Lord, didn’t you promise that once your secondary differentiation was complete, you would grant me my freedom?”
Yan Mo froze. He racked his brain for a moment before finally dragging up the memory from a dusty corner of his mind—it was their conversation from the very first time he had met Lan Ze.
He had personally said that after his secondary differentiation, he would return Lan Ze’s freedom.
But back then, he had assumed Lan Ze was being forced into the guardianship by Admiral Lan, and Yan Mo himself simply needed a temporary identity to survive in the Zerg society. That was why they had established that verbal agreement.
Now, Yan Mo regretted it to death.
He had secured such a gorgeous and perfect wife; he couldn’t just let him slip away!
He pressed Lan Ze against the corner of the wall, his handsome face slowly closing in as he ground his teeth together. “None of that counts anymore!”
“Oh?” Lan Ze arched an eyebrow, his gaze sweeping lazily over him. “So it turns out Lord Yan Mo is a Male who goes back on his word.”
“No… I’m not…”
Yan Mo gently embraced Lan Ze, burying his fluffy head into Lan Ze’s shoulder and rubbing affectionately against him. He brought his lips close to Lan Ze’s ear, his pitiful voice melting Lan Ze’s resolve.
“Lan Ze… you can’t do this to me. That agreement is void. You can only be my Female Monarch. The moment my secondary differentiation is finished, we’re going straight to the Male Protection Association to register!”
Lan Ze’s heart softened entirely, yet he didn’t immediately agree. Instead, he maintained a cool tone, “But becoming my Xiongzhu isn’t going to be that easy.”
Yan Mo fell silent for a long moment before saying, “I will work hard to train my pheromones. I will become a high-level Male.”
“No, that’s not what I’m talking about.” Lan Ze gently pushed Yan Mo back and looked him dead in the eyes. “I have never cared about your pheromone rank.”
If it were merely about pheromone rank, Lan Ze would never have rejected all the high-level Males on the Capital Star who had previously shown him favor. With his status as an S-rank Female, the youngest Major General in the military, and the heir to the Lan Clan, he had more than enough leverage to ally himself in marriage with the most elite Males on the Capital Star.
But that was never what he wanted.
What he truly desired was simply a partner who would love him, respect him, and have eyes only for him.
Yet in the Zerg empire, such a wish was practically a delusional fantasy.
Lan Ze closed his eyes briefly. “If you are to marry me, you cannot take any Female Attendants or Female Slaves. You can only have me, your single Female Monarch.”
Yan Mo was stunned. He hadn’t expected Lan Ze’s demand to be this simple.
From the very beginning, he had never even considered taking any Female Attendants or Slaves; all he ever wanted was Lan Ze.
At his core, Yan Mo was deeply traditional when it came to romance. He firmly believed that a relationship was strictly between two people, and he would only ever devote himself wholeheartedly to his partner.
This was precisely why he had never been in a relationship in his past life on Earth before the car accident. He simply hadn’t met the right person, and he preferred to wait.
He just hadn’t expected that the partner he would choose for the rest of his life wouldn’t be human, but rather a Zerg Female.
Lan Ze didn’t dare open his eyes to gauge Yan Mo’s reaction. He had roughly deduced that Yan Mo wasn’t a Male born on the Capital Star, but he also hadn’t realized that Yan Mo’s entire species was completely different from the Zerg.
To any other Male, such a demand would sound completely unreasonable and demanding, wouldn’t it?
Yan Mo watched Lan Ze’s closed eyes, his long, delicate eyelashes trembling faintly like the wings of a butterfly preparing to take flight.
Yan Mo let out a soft chuckle and pressed a gentle kiss to Lan Ze’s eyelid.
The eyelashes fluttered even more erratically. Yan Mo slowly trailed his kisses downward until they landed softly at the corner of Lan Ze’s lips. He murmured, “You idiot, of course I only want you. You will be my one and only Female Monarch.”
Lan Ze’s eyes flew open in utter disbelief, his gaze crashing straight into the pitch-black depths of the Male’s eyes. He trembled, trying to formulate a sentence, but in the next second, his lips were fiercely claimed by Yan Mo.
As their breaths intertwined, the temperature in the room soared.
A long while passed before the two entangled figures finally, reluctantly, parted.
Lan Ze spoke, as if desperately trying to confirm something, “Everything you just said… is it true?”
Yan Mo laughed softly, pressing quick, affectionate pecks against the corner of his mouth. “Of course it’s true.”
Having received the answer he yearned for, Lan Ze could barely suppress the smile tugging at his lips, but he forced his tone to remain stern. “I don’t believe you. You just proved yourself to be a Xiongzhu who goes back on his word!”
Yan Mo: “…”
If he had actually kept his word regarding that old agreement, he wouldn’t have a wife right now!
Yan Mo fully experienced what it meant to shoot himself in the foot.
He asked pitifully, “Then what do I have to do to make you believe me?”
Lan Ze also started to feel a bit embarrassed.
What was he doing? Throwing a tantrum and acting utterly unreasonable with Lord Yan Mo like some immature little cub.
The moment the thought crossed his mind, the heat rising in his cheeks became absolutely unstoppable.
Lan Ze mumbled awkwardly, “Well, alright then. I will trust you one more time.”
Yan Mo was entirely captivated by Lan Ze’s blushing face. His Cijun was simply too adorable!
He couldn’t resist leaning in for another kiss.
Suddenly, the relentless flashing of an incoming Light Brain message ruined the moment.
Lan Ze gave Yan Mo’s hand a reassuring squeeze, silently comforting the extremely displeased Male who hated being interrupted.
He opened his Light Brain to check the emergency message, and his expression changed drastically in an instant.
“What’s wrong?”
Seeing Lan Ze’s face turn grim, Yan Mo couldn’t help but ask.
Lan Ze stared at the urgent notification on his Light Brain, his gaze sharpening. “Something has happened.”
