Chapter 6: Kill That Gold-Digging Scammer 6
After Boss Wang had someone show the two of them around the “company,” Zhou Geng and Shen Wu finally headed back.
On the way back, Zhou Geng was worried Shen Wu might take the bus in the wrong direction,
So he specifically gave him careful instructions again.
It was still the 131 bus. After getting on, the two found seats in the back row.
Zhou Geng looked at Shen Wu. “Sales might look easy, but the waters are actually quite deep. Once you memorize all those materials, you also need to know how to talk. Grow a thick skin and don’t be afraid of rejection…”
Back in college, Zhou Geng had done a part-time job promoting kitchenware. Although it wasn’t building materials, since it was sales, the basics were roughly the same.
Shen Wu nodded. “I understand, Zhou-ge.”
Watching Shen Wu’s well-behaved expression, Zhou Geng couldn’t help but sigh in his heart.
He’s so well-behaved. If he keeps getting rejected, he won’t cry, will he?
With a slight frown, he added, “I’ll keep an eye out for a more relaxed job with good benefits. Just make do with this one for now.”
When Shen Wu first arrived, Zhou Geng had originally planned to wash his hands of him once he started working. After all, he wasn’t his mother, and helping him find a job was already doing him a huge favor.
However, after seeing Shen Wu yesterday, he changed his mind. Since they were from the same hometown, he should help him out as much as possible.
“Thank you, Zhou-ge. This job is already great, please don’t trouble yourself anymore.” Shen Wu looked at Zhou Geng with deep gratitude.
“Alright then. But if you can’t get used to it, tell me, and I’ll find you a new job.”
Zhou Geng paused for a couple of seconds before continuing, “Just stay with me for now. Don’t worry, as long as I have a bite to eat, you won’t go hungry.”
“Thank you, Zhou-ge.”
“You’re already calling me ‘ge,’ so stop being so polite.” Zhou Geng smiled warmly at Shen Wu.
…
After the two reached the residential complex, Zhou Geng took him to a small restaurant nearby for lunch.
They ordered one meat dish and one vegetable dish.
After eating, he took Shen Wu to the nearby wet market to buy groceries, planning to show off his cooking skills for Shen Wu that evening.
“What do you like to eat?”
Shen Wu scanned the area. “Anything is fine, I’m not a picky eater.”
Zhou Geng let out a low chuckle. “You’re pretty easy to feed, then.”
Shen Wu scratched the back of his head and laughed sheepishly. “I think so too.”
After all, before his death, he had always just thrown something simple together for himself every day. Most of the time, he only ate two meals a day.
Zhou Geng glanced at him, said no more, but the smile on his face deepened.
They strolled around the market and came out with Zhou Geng carrying several bags of groceries.
He had bought two pounds of ribs, a few potatoes, some tomatoes, and a bunch of baby bok choy.
Zhou Geng was planning to make braised ribs with potatoes, a tomato and egg stir-fry, and some greens.
Since it was just the two of them, cooking too much would just go to waste.
When they got back home, it was already past two in the afternoon.
After exchanging a quick greeting, Shen Wu grabbed his pajamas and slipped into the bathroom.
Zhou Geng put the groceries away and then went into his room.
By the time Shen Wu finished his shower and came out, Zhou Geng had already unpacked and organized his clothes for him.
“Wuwu, I unpacked your clothes and put them on the left side of the wardrobe.”
“Zhou-ge, I’m really causing you too much trouble. Once I get my salary, I’ll go look for an apartment.”
Zhou Geng’s hands paused. “There’s no rush. You can stay here as long as you want. I live alone anyway, as long as you don’t mind squeezing into the same bed with me.”
“That won’t do. What if you get a girlfriend? It would be so inconvenient,” Shen Wu teased.
As Zhou Geng picked up his pajamas, he replied, “Me? I definitely won’t be dating anytime soon. At the very least, I need to buy a house and have some savings before I even consider it. I can’t let a girl suffer through hard times with me, right?”
In Zhou Geng’s view, dating without the intention of getting married was just being a scoundrel.
If they were going to be together, he had to take responsibility for the girl.
“That’s true…”
They exchanged a few more words before Zhou Geng went into the bathroom.
When he came out, Shen Wu was sitting on the sofa watching TV.
His pale and tender legs resting on the chair made Zhou Geng steal a second glance.
“Wuwu, entertain yourself for a bit. If you want to watch a movie, you can use the computer in the room. I’m going to take a nap!”
Zhou Geng had slept late yesterday and woken up early this morning. After taking a shower, the fatigue had caught up with him.
“Okay.” Shen Wu nodded, and Zhou Geng walked straight into the bedroom.
He lay on the bed and quickly fell asleep.
He slept until almost five o’clock.
When he opened his eyes and turned his head, he saw Shen Wu sleeping soundly right next to him.
His closed eyelashes looked like two little fans, and his cheeks were slightly flushed, making him look like a soft, sweet little cake.
Zhou Geng couldn’t help but let his eyes curve into a smile.
How did this kid end up looking so sweet? I don’t remember him being like this in the past.
Indeed, boys change completely when they grow up.
He quietly got out of bed, turned the air conditioning temperature up a bit, and then walked out.
He prepared the ingredients for dinner. When he went back into the room, he noticed Shen Wu had already woken up and was leaning against the headboard, staring into space.
“You’re awake?”
Shen Wu gave a small “Mm.”
He was quite bored.
This old brick phone of his had absolutely nothing fun on it. He couldn’t watch videos, and he couldn’t play games.
“Why do you look so listless?”
“I just woke up, feeling a bit bored.”
“Do you want to watch a movie? I can find one for you.”
Shen Wu blinked. “Zhou-ge, do you play games?”
Zhou Geng was momentarily stunned. “I used to. I haven’t had time to play since I started working these past two years.”
Shen Wu let out an “Oh.”
“Do you play games?” Zhou Geng asked him in return.
“I do, but I can’t play on my phone,” Shen Wu explained. “I used to borrow my classmate’s phone to play.”
Zhou Geng didn’t doubt his explanation. He glanced at the old brick phone sitting next to Shen Wu, stood up, and handed him his own phone. “If you want to play games, use mine. The passcode is six zeros.”
“No need, Zhou-ge. I was just asking.”
“It’s no big deal. I’ll buy you a smartphone tomorrow. If you want to play games, you can download them yourself.”
Shen Wu shouted a silent “Holy crap” in his heart. He completely hadn’t expected Zhou Geng to be such a Living Lei Feng, being so generous to a guy from his hometown.
“No need, Ge. Phones are really expensive, and I don’t have the money…”
“I’m not asking you to pay me back. Though I can’t bear to buy you the latest model, getting a standard one is fine, right?” Zhou Geng said with a smile.
He did have money saved, but that was his “wife fund.” He needed to save it to buy a house and get married.
In order to earn more money, he was constantly taking on side gigs, sleeping later than a dog and waking up earlier than a chicken, working himself to the bone.
“Zhou-ge, you really don’t need to buy me one. Don’t waste your money.”
Zhou Geng smiled at Shen Wu. “Now that you’re out working, even if it’s not for entertainment, you still need a smartphone. Most things run on WeChat nowadays.”
He tossed the phone onto the bed next to Shen Wu. “If you want to play games, just download them. I’m going to cook.”
Even after Zhou Geng left, Shen Wu sat leaning against the bed, still feeling a bit stunned.
He was entirely too generous toward him.
Once he returned to the real world, he would make sure to write him a perfect ending.
Of course, if Zhou Geng really did buy him a phone, he would definitely pay him back once he made money.
He couldn’t just take advantage of him for nothing.
Thinking this,
Shen Wu picked up Zhou Geng’s phone, unlocked it, and downloaded Honor of Kings for himself.
He felt incredibly thankful right now that he had written this game into the novel; otherwise, he wouldn’t have been able to play it even if he wanted to.
