Little Monster Cub Chapter 47

Chapter 47

Yu An held a disposable bowl, taking small bites. Originally, he could spare some attention for Zhou Xia’s side, but as the food began to disappear at a visible rate, Yu An had to participate in this battle for food.

Xu Yening had prepared the food according to Yu An’s appetite, but Fu Yunshu and the other two were in the “half-grown boys eat their fathers out of house and home” age group. These dishes were simply too few in their eyes.

Especially with several Xenogenics clamoring to eat, these already small portions had to be divided further, leaving even less for each person.

Except for the bowl left untouched for Zhou Xia, the food in the thermos lunch boxes was eaten completely clean.

Yu An had a small appetite and was full after a few bites, but he had several little guys to feed. The rest of his time was entirely spent feeding Monday and the others.

Towards the end of the meal, Yu An had one last meatball left in his bowl.

Monday still wasn’t full. It wagged its tail anxiously at Yu An’s feet, barking repeatedly: [Hungry, hungry, An-an, want to eat yummy food~]

Its gaze was glued to the meatball; it wanted it.

But this sole remaining meatball wasn’t only desired by this little Xenogenic. Klold, standing on Yu An’s shoulder, was also eyeing it covetously. It was just that He, mindful of His status as an elder, was unwilling to say it out loud, though He had already confirmed a million times in His heart that this meatball would definitely be His.

What a joke. He was the parent of this little cub. How could His status even be compared to Monday, a potential emergency food reserve?

“Then I’ll give it to you.” Yu An fed the meatball to Monday, smiling as he watched it feast. However, a suppressed “hmph” of resentment reached his ears.

Yu An met Klold’s face, which looked as if the whole world had let Him down, and asked, bewildered, “Why are you unhappy?”

Klold didn’t answer, shooting Yu An a fleeting glance, as if saying, “You actually have the nerve to ask?”

Unfortunately, Yu An failed to catch this underlying meaning. He just stared blankly back at Him, waiting for Him to explain the reason for His unhappiness.

Klold couldn’t very well just say He was unhappy because the meatball wasn’t given to Him. He wouldn’t voice such a childish and ridiculous reason. He glanced at the tail-wagging Monday, [It’s nothing. I just think this dog of yours is getting too fat? It’s time to put it on a diet.]

Monday’s happily wagging tail instantly froze. Its head chased its tail in a circle, looking left and right, but it didn’t feel fat anywhere. It complained aggrievedly: [I am not fat at all.]

Yu An looked at the soft, cute, and adorable little local dog cub. “…Monday isn’t fat, right? Besides, it’s just a baby.”

“Monday is very fat?” Gu Yixing, who was closest to Yu An, heard Yu An’s muttering. He put down his bowl and chopsticks, scrutinizing Monday, and nodded slowly. “It is a bit fat, round like a ball. Hey, looking at it now, Monday has been this small, never-growing-up size for so many years. Is it because of its breed?”

Ever since Monday was infected and became a Xenogenic, its appearance hadn’t changed, still maintaining its puppy size. The first time Gu Yixing saw Monday, it was this little puppy look.

This touched upon Yu An’s blind spot. He answered vaguely, “Probably.”

Gu Yixing was just asking in passing. He smiled and lifted Monday up, holding it in his arms for a round of kisses and snuggles. “Fat baby, fat baby.”

Monday pressed a paw pad against Gu Yixing’s face, stopping him from getting closer, plunging into a deep self-doubt due to this heavy blow. Was it really a fat baby?

Klold coldly delivered the final blow: [A seven-year-old old baby.]

Monday became even sadder. It wasn’t even a baby anymore. What a heart-breaking thing for a little dog!

Even as slow as Yu An was, he could feel Klold targeting Monday. He vaguely remembered that a long, long time ago, Soland and Little White’s relationship was like fire and water. After Monday came back, Soland’s personality changed a lot, and the three little guys had always coexisted peacefully.

What was going on today? Monday didn’t seem to have provoked “Soland” gege, right?

Yu An’s gaze darted back and forth between Klold and Monday. He racked his brain but couldn’t think of a reason. Seeing Monday’s ears drooping aggrievedly, Yu An couldn’t help but press down on Klold. “Don’t bully Monday. Monday isn’t an old baby either.”

[I’m bullying it?] Klold’s tone rarely carried a hint of annoyance. His deep eyes looked at Yu An. [Disobedient little cub.]

Before Yu An could react, Klold waved His small tentacles and slowly slid down from Yu An’s shoulder, burrowing into his pocket without making a sound. It was obvious He was sulking.

Yu An stared blankly for a moment, looking helplessly at the small bulge in his pocket. He seemed to have made Soland gege angry too, but why was he angry? Yu An lowered his curled eyelashes and fell into silent contemplation again.

“Wow, this is the first time I’ve seen your little octopus pet get angry. It is angry, right?” Gu Yixing’s face was full of curiosity and surprise. The most mysterious thing around Yu An was his little octopus pet. Not only did it look very strange, but the feeling it gave him was also very peculiar.

Every time he met this little pet’s eyes, Gu Yixing would feel a sense of dread. This emotion came without a clear reason, yet it was rooted deep in his soul and could not be erased.

In the past, when going to the Institute, Gu Yixing had seen with his own eyes those fierce Xenogenics cowering in corners shivering in fear when they saw this little octopus. From then on, Gu Yixing knew that the rank of this little octopus was definitely very high. As for why such a high-level Xenogenic was around Yu An, he didn’t even need to think about it. It was definitely arranged for him by Uncle Wen Xun.

Given Uncle Wen Xun’s status, even if he arranged an S-rank Xenogenic for his precious son, Gu Yixing wouldn’t find it strange.

So he was very curious about what Yu An had done to make this highly dangerous Xenogenic angry.

Yu An thought of many possibilities, and finally settled on the most likely one. His tone was slow and gentle, “Yes, he’s probably angry because I gave the last meatball to Monday.”

Gu Yixing opened his mouth slightly. “Are you… sure?”

Just because of a meatball?!

Is he really that petty?

Even Fu Yunshu and Gu Ersheng found this reason astonishing, turning their gazes over, not bothering to care about Zhou Xia’s side anymore. The students closest to them silently leaned their bodies closer, pricking up their ears to eavesdrop.

“Probably.” Yu An truly couldn’t think of any other possibility.

To verify his guess, Yu An took Klold out of his pocket, placed Him on his palm, and patted His head, his tone apologetic. “I didn’t know you wanted to eat that meatball too. When we get home, I’ll have Auntie make you a big bowl, okay? Don’t be angry anymore.”

Hearing this, Klold’s expression improved slightly, and He shot a very obvious glance at Monday.

Yu An quickly caught on. “Just for you. Not for Monday this time.”

I’ll just give it to Monday next time, it won’t be too late.

Klold now felt completely comfortable in body and mind. He specifically extended five tentacles, standing the middle one straight up and curling the other four. After making a “hand gesture” towards Monday, He slowly touched Yu An’s forehead. [Good boy.]

Yu An’s eyes curved. “So you aren’t angry anymore?”

Klold maintained the posture of a clan leader: [But I still find it unpleasant to look at. When it gets a bit fatter, we’ll eat it. It looks like it doesn’t have any room to grow anyway, so no need to keep it as emergency food.]

Yu An pretended not to hear that sentence, keeping a straight face as he casually shoved Klold back into his pocket.

Over the years, Klold had muttered about eating someone or other in his ear countless times. Initially, Yu An would argue with Him, but eventually, he simply feigned deafness and dumbness, which saved him a lot of trouble.

Seeing Yu An easily coax Klold, Gu Yixing and the other two exchanged looks, forced to believe that the reason this powerful Xenogenic threw a tantrum was really because of a meatball.

Fu Yunshu picked up the Snow Snake that was nibbling on cabbage leaves beside him, the way he looked at it changing slightly.

So there was a Xenogenic even more pathetic than the Snow Snake. He had broadened his horizons.

The Snow Snake held a cabbage leaf in its mouth and raised its head with a feeling, checking Fu Yunshu. Finding nothing amiss in his expression, it swallowed its discomfort and continued eating leaves.

Half an hour later, Zhou Xia finished dealing with the last three people. He looked at the paper filled with red checkmarks, not blinking for a long time. After a while, he twitched the corners of his lips upwards, whispering softly, “Mom, look, I wasn’t bullied at school, so don’t worry anymore…”

Yu An noticed a tiny bit of abnormality and turned to ask Fu Yunshu and the others, “Did something happen?”

Fu Yunshu whispered in Yu An’s ear, “Zhou Xia’s mother passed away yesterday.”

Yu An’s pupils shrank. Connecting it to the phone call Zhou Xia made to him last night, his mood instantly became incredibly heavy, as if weighed down by a massive boulder. Even his breathing slowed down considerably.

“What was the reason?”

“Cancer. Her condition worsened due to depression, and she didn’t receive timely medical treatment.”

Yu An looked up at Zhou Xia. Even though he had exacted revenge on all the classmates who had bullied him, there wasn’t a trace of joy on his face. He was still that quiet, introverted boy, peaceful and silent.

Shifting his gaze down, old scars on Zhou Xia’s wrist were clearly visible, layered one over another, as if new wounds followed closely before the old ones could heal.

Yu An pursed his lips, walked slowly to Zhou Xia’s side, and tugged at the corner of his shirt. “Brother, let’s go.”

It took Zhou Xia a long while to react, his gaze hollow. “Where to? My mom is gone, I have no home.”

Yu An opened his mouth, but didn’t know how to comfort him. However, his hand gripping the corner of Zhou Xia’s shirt never loosened. “How about… you can go to my house first. It’s right there.”

Yu An pointed in the direction outside the school, urgently telling Zhou Xia, “It’s very close, just a few minutes walk. Right now Xingcheng gege must be preparing instant noodles and boiled eggs. We can go back now and eat. Even though it’s not very good… if you don’t like it, we can bring some snacks back, just don’t let him find out.”

He was terrified Zhou Xia would refuse, so he quickly blurted out everything in his heart, saying whatever came to mind.

Zhou Xia crouched down, a mist in his eyes, gently stroking the top of Yu An’s head. “An-an, thank you for everything. I’m clearly the older brother, but it seems like you’ve been taking care of me from start to finish…”

Yu An stared at the sadness in his eyes, took two steps forward, and hugged Zhou Xia with his thin shoulders. “Don’t be sad, okay? We can go back and eat.”

In an instant, Zhou Xia almost couldn’t hold back his tears. He took a deep breath, gave Yu An a solemn hug, and looked up at Xu Yening standing at the door. He didn’t know when he had arrived, or how long he had been standing there.

Zhou Xia stood up and bowed to Xu Yening. “I’m sorry for the trouble.”

Yu An turned around, surprised. “Why are you here again?”

Xu Yening’s face instantly darkened considerably. As he walked past, he maliciously ruffled Yu An’s soft hair until it was a mess. Yu An angrily protected his hair, which was sticking up in all directions, and hid to the side.

After bullying Yu An, Xu Yening’s lips curled into a smile. However, when facing Zhou Xia, his gaze was complex. The two looked at each other, and for a time, neither spoke first, or perhaps they didn’t know how to start.

Tu Yao guarded Xu Yening’s feet, looking at him warily. It could sense the powerful aura radiating from Xu Yening, so it pulled Tu Jiu over to present a united front.

At the same time, over a dozen tall men followed closely behind Xu Yening and approached the classroom.

White mist emanated from one of them. The white mist quickly spread to every corner of the classroom, and the students who came into contact with it collapsed one by one.

Then, the men moved swiftly, picking up the students and carrying them out of the classroom, handing them over to the specialized cleanup crew who would erase their memories.

A wisp of white mist had just touched Yu An when a few small transparent tentacles stretched out from him and instantly absorbed the white mist completely.

The mist ability user froze for a few seconds. Why did his ability disappear so quickly? But without time to think deeply, he immediately increased his ability output.
