Chapter 105: I Am Jiang Chenyan; How Is This Possible? Jiang Chenyan Isn’t Dead… part 1
“Alright.”
Shen Shiyue leaned forward, his slender fingers gently cupping Jiang Chenyan’s face. The corners of his mouth couldn’t help but turn up. “We’ll kill them.”
Jiang Chenyan didn’t bother maintaining a straight posture anymore. He tilted his head, resting it on Shen Shiyue’s lap. He was still pondering the matter of Jiang Xuanshen. Jiang Xuanshen had indeed monopolized more than half of the interstellar arms trade, but even if he was dead, his massive estate could never be allowed to fall into the hands of Qi Bai and his lot.
Since that was the case, what exactly were Qi Bai and the others after by going through such elaborate lengths to eliminate Jiang Xuanshen?
Shen Shiyue looked down at the person resting on his lap, his Adam’s apple bobbing unconsciously.
He slowly lowered his head, his warm breath brushing against Jiang Chenyan’s forehead, preparing to kiss that delicate skin.
“Unless…”
Jiang Chenyan suddenly thought of something and abruptly sat up from Shen Shiyue’s lap. Their movements were too sudden, and their foreheads collided without warning.
“Hiss—”
Jiang Chenyan gasped, but he couldn’t care about the sharp pain in his forehead. A terrifying thought flashed through his mind: Jiang Qingye and Jiang Qingyan had also met with misfortune, and his parents had always been weak and incompetent. They were utterly incapable of holding things together…
He looked at Shen Shiyue. “We must call the core members for a meeting immediately. It’ll be too late otherwise.”
Shen Shiyue clutched his aching forehead, swallowing the complaint that had been on the tip of his tongue. “Alright…”
Inside the meeting room, Ye Qingyu looked at Jiang Chenyan and cut straight to the point. “Even then, it wouldn’t be their turn to inherit those arms industries. To put it bluntly… unless your entire family met with an accident, including your parents.”
As soon as these words were out, the people who had been flipping through documents all raised their heads, their expressions shifting through various shades of shock.
Jiang Chenyan took a deep breath. “In any case, these industries must not fall into the hands of Qi Bai and the others. Have you thought about it? Lately, enemy forces have been constantly encroaching on the Alliance and the borders. If they find an excuse—using the protection of the masses as a ruse to reclaim these industries—then all our previous efforts will be in vain. At that point, staging a comeback will be harder than reaching the heavens.”
Kai Lan slammed the table. “How can they be so disgusting? For the sake of these weapons, they wouldn’t hesitate to wipe out the Jiang family.”
Everyone nodded, their expressions solemn.
The arms industries under Jiang Xuanshen were deeply entrenched, involving more than half of the interstellar weapon supply. If they were truly seized by Qi Bai and his group, they would find themselves in an extremely passive position once the war broke out.
“I’ll send people to protect your parents in secret.” Shen Shiyue’s fingertips lightly covered Jiang Chenyan’s hand resting on the edge of the table. “Twenty-four-hour rotations to ensure they stay within a safe range. We’ll make sure there are no accidents.”
Jiang Chenyan looked down at their overlapping hands. “Mhm.”
The others stared at the two of them. “…”
By the time the meeting adjourned, the night outside was already as thick as ink.
After the others left, only Jiang Chenyan and Shen Shiyue remained in the vast meeting room. When they returned to the lounge, Jiang Chenyan lay on the cold bed, tossing and turning, unable to sleep.
In his mind, the System sensed his mental fluctuations.
[System: Host, your sleep index is detected to be below the critical threshold. Why are you unable to fall asleep?]
“Because a lot has happened today,” Jiang Chenyan told the System.
In the darkness, unrestrained disgust and coldness surged in Jiang Chenyan’s eyes. What truly kept him awake was the nauseating hypocrisy of Qi Bai and Mu Sian. Over the past two years, hiding in the shadows, he had uncovered many of their sordid dealings, but it was only now that he realized just how terrifying these two men were.
Not only that, but they even enjoyed playing the part of the “deeply affectionate” lovers, occasionally visiting his grave to leave bouquets of fresh flowers. Yet, who would have thought that these two men, who seemingly couldn’t forget him, could plots the annihilation of his entire family without hesitation for the sake of profit? How ironic.
To be honest, Jiang Chenyan didn’t have a shred of affection for the Jiang family. He was an outsider who had transmigrated halfway through the story. The blood ties and childhood memories of this body were nothing more than cold text on a page to him.
But since no one knew about his transmigration, he was still, on the surface, Jiang Xuanshen’s biological brother. This made Jiang Chenyan loathe Qi Bai and Mu Sian’s actions all the more.
…
The following day, the situation spiraled out of control as expected.
The Star Network was flooded with reports of Jiang Xuanshen fleeing from justice and his subsequent confirmed death. The deliberately sensationalized details and the way they glossed over key points made it obvious to any discerning eye that someone was manipulating public opinion.
However, the news of the villa being bombed was kept tightly under wraps, as if that earth-shattering explosion had never occurred.
Over the next week, Jiang Chenyan and his group kept a day-and-night vigil against Qi Bai’s movements. They analyzed every one of Qi Bai’s steps and screened for potential moles among them. But for all their precautions, they couldn’t avoid the inevitable.
The Jiang family was found to be involved in a massive embezzlement case from years ago, with conclusive and irrefutable evidence. Father and Mother Jiang were taken away and detained. Now, aside from Old Master Jiang, every member of the family had a criminal record.
When Kai Lan heard the news, he was completely stunned. He grabbed Jiang Chenyan’s arm. “Was it real or fake?”
Jiang Chenyan lowered his eyes and spoke helplessly. “It was real.”
Mainly, the fact that those two were corrupt wasn’t exactly a surprise.
Kai Lan felt like his heart was dead. “What do we do now?”
Jiang Chenyan leaned over and tucked a camera into the hidden compartment of Kai Lan’s backpack. “Let’s see what they actually want to do.”
…
The trial date arrived faster than imagined.
The moment the gavel fell, the life imprisonment sentences for Jiang Qingye and Jiang Qingyan were finalized. This severity far exceeded standard punishment, leaving many in the gallery stunned.
As the courthouse doors slowly opened, Qi Bai and Mu Sian walked out side by side.
With no bodyguards clearing the way, Qi Bai wore a bespoke pure black suit, the silver pin on his collar glinting coldly in the sunlight. The low pressure surrounding him made the nearby reporters instinctively hold their breath.
Mu Sian wore a light-colored trench coat, an unlit cigarette held between his fingers. When he lifted his eyes to sweep over the crowd, the red mole at the corner of his eye carried a trace of careless ruthlessness. Even though he was smiling, the air temperature seemed to drop.
This posture of having everything under control was truly something to behold.
Unable to contain themselves, the reporters swarmed forward, microphones and recording pens vying for space.
Jiang Chenyan and Kai Lan, carrying a large camera, blended into the crowded group of reporters. The lens was steadily aimed at those two figures, attempting to record every subtle expression.
“Mr. Qi Bai, Mr. Mu Sian, what are your thoughts on the life sentences for Jiang Qingye and Jiang Qingyan? Do you believe this verdict can completely settle the Jiang family’s old cases?”
“There are reports that the Jiang family was involved in corruption years ago. Is this true?”
“The previous news of Jiang Xuanshen fleeing and his accidental death sparked heated discussions. Some netizens suspect the public opinion is being manipulated. How do you respond to this?”
“An unexplained explosion occurred at the Jiang family villa, and the news was strictly suppressed. Is the explosion related to the series of changes in the Jiang family?”
Faced with the barrage of questions, Qi Bai’s expression remained unchanged. He reached up to adjust his suit collar. “The things the Jiang family did were indeed a headache. I believe the court has provided the correct verdict.”
“Please move aside. We have follow-up work to handle.”
Bodyguards who had been hidden in the shadows quickly surrounded them, shielding Qi Bai and Mu Sian in the center and forcibly pushing through the crowded reporters to clear a path.
Having failed to hear any key answers that could tear open the truth, Jiang Chenyan and Kai Lan exchanged a look.
The next second, Jiang Chenyan snatched a spare microphone from a nearby reporter. He extended his arm and thrust it right in front of Qi Bai, his voice piercing through the noisy crowd. “The two of you appearing together today—does it mean that both sides have reached a deep cooperation?”
The smile on Kai Lan’s face froze instantly, his heart skipping a beat. Jiang Chenyan was being too direct; he was completely playing against the rules.
The surrounding reporters also froze for a moment, their microphones suspended in mid-air. What a sharp question. Which media outlet was this? To dare to ask that… weren’t they afraid of being blacklisted in the industry?
Qi Bai slowly lifted his eyes, his gaze precisely locking onto the small reporter who had asked the question.
He didn’t look like anything special, but the question he asked was suicidal.
“No.” That single word was encrusted in ice as it smashed into the noisy interview area. He added at the end, “We simply happened to be executing a mission together.”
Jiang Chenyan wanted to say more, but he was knocked askew by other reporters who surged forward.
The crowd pushed Jiang Chenyan to the edge. The hum of microphones and the sound of camera shutters instantly filled the space.
Kai Lan poked half his body out from the crowd and grabbed Jiang Chenyan’s arm, lowering his voice. “Watch me. Your question was a bit too much. Didn’t you see Qi Bai’s face turn black?”
Jiang Chenyan: “…”
Kai Lan stayed low, agilely weaving through the group of reporters. He used his elbows to push aside anyone blocking the way, forcing a narrow gap to drill through.
Just as he was about to get close to Mu Sian, a black microphone appeared over his head and was shoved into Mu Sian’s face.
Kai Lan was pushed away.
The reporter’s voice wasn’t loud, but it was like a thunderclap exploding in the crowd. “There’s virtually no one left in the Jiang family now. Will the Jiang family’s industries collapse because of this? With no one to take over?”
