Chapter 19
“Next class is English. Put your math book away.”
Lin Xiu saw Chi Abei taking out his math book, thinking he didn’t know the schedule, so he reminded him. Chi Abei, who was about to take out his math exercise book, paused, “Oh”-ed, and replaced the math book with a Chinese textbook.
Lin Xiu saw the word “Chinese” and was speechless: “…I said English.”
Chi Abei looked at Lin Xiu: “But I want to read Chinese.”
Lin Xiu opened his mouth, wanting to say something but ultimately didn’t. Let him read whatever he wants. Why should he care? He said he wasn’t stupid; did you really believe him?
Lin Xiu: “Whatever.”
Class 1’s English teacher was notoriously strict. Even the top students were afraid of her. When she first heard that Chi Abei was transferring to Class 1, she had prepared for the worst, thinking that as long as he didn’t disturb others, she could tolerate anything.
But when she saw the little fool seriously reading other subjects during class, Zhou Xia’s temper almost snapped.
What? Are other subjects that much better? My English class is so beneath you?
If it were anyone else daring to daydream in her class, they would definitely get hit with a few chalk pieces, but considering it was Chi Abei… Zhou Xia told herself, it was fortunate that the little fool wasn’t causing trouble in her class; let him read whatever he wants!
Zhou Xia occasionally glanced behind, her gaze terrifying. The students in the front wondered who was reckless enough to provoke her, turning their heads to look behind.
Zhou Xia, who was simmering with anger, couldn’t contain it anymore: “What are you all looking back for? Want to see, huh? You few, stand up and go look from the back!”
Chi Abei looked at the few people standing in a row at the back of the classroom in a daze and quietly asked Lin Xiu: “Brother, what’s wrong with them?”
Lin Xiu sighed, It’s all because of you.
Lin Xiu said: “They were daydreaming in class.”
Chi Abei mumbled softly: “The English teacher is really fierce.”
They were made to stand at the back for daydreaming! He absolutely couldn’t let her find out he wasn’t reading his English textbook. So, he took out his English textbook in front of Zhou Xia, hiding his Chinese textbook behind it.
Zhou Xia’s temples throbbed: “…”
You’re better off not hiding it!
The class was restless. When the bell rang, Zhou Xia didn’t want to stay in the classroom for a second longer; she took her textbook and left.
Lin Yang had endured the entire class. Seeing Zhou Xia leave, he quickly turned around and asked: “Sister Xia, who were you glaring at just now? I felt like she was glaring at our area, and it scared me stiff.”
Chi Abei looked left and right in confusion: “No one was talking here.”
The few who had stood for a class and were returning to their seats couldn’t help but look at Chi Abei after hearing this. One of the boys saw the book on Chi Abei’s desk and said: “I’m really impressed.”
Jiang Yu followed the boy’s gaze to the Chinese textbook stacked on top of Chi Abei’s English textbook, instantly understanding why Zhou Xia was so angry.
It’s only him. Try it with someone else.
During the break after the first class in the afternoon, Chi Abei ran out to use the restroom. He looked back and saw Jiang Yu following him: “You’re going to the restroom too?”
Jiang Yu, hands in his pockets, followed him: “No.”
Chi Abei: “Then why are you following me?”
Jiang Yu and Chi Abei together were a strange combination. Coupled with rumors from Class 1, seeing them appear one after the other in the corridor, the curious gazes followed them.
Jiang Yu felt uncomfortable being stared at and pulled Chi Abei into the men’s restroom: “I have something to ask you. Let’s talk inside.”
Chi Abei didn’t understand: “Why do we need to talk in the restroom?”
Chi Abei didn’t want to chat with him in the restroom. He urgently needed to pee and couldn’t hold it anymore. He unzipped his pants: “Get away, don’t look at me, I need to pee.”
“Pee then.” Seeing Chi Abei glaring at him, Jiang Yu turned around helplessly: “Like we’ve never seen each other before.”
Chi Abei: “…”
Aha, the straight-man setting in the novel is finally here!
Jiang Yu asked him: “Why was Lin Xiu late today? He’s never late before. Does he want to drop out again?”
Chi Abei looked back at him. After the breakfast plan failed, he was going to give up on this lie, but Jiang Yu was still thinking about it. Since that’s the case…
Chi Abei said: “I’m trying my best to keep him. Otherwise, why do you think I slept at his house last night? I wanted him to feel the warmth of school.”
Chi Abei finished, tidying his pants: “Do you know why Lin Xiu gege hasn’t been talking to you lately? It’s because he feels you don’t treat him as a friend. You don’t care about him at all.”
Jiang Yu frowned: “But we’ve always been like this.”
Chi Abei turned to wash his hands: “That was then, this is now. Brother didn’t want to drop out before.”
As soon as he finished speaking, a boy walked in from outside.
Jiang Yu’s face darkened.
“It’s really you.” Jiang Wenyu glanced at Chi Abei and smiled: “I heard you’ve been hanging out with that fool lately. What? Have you finally come to terms with your identity and started playing with fools?”
Jiang Yu didn’t want to pay him any attention. He asked Chi Abei: “Are you done washing?”
Chi Abei looked back at the sarcastic boy: “Yes.”
Jiang Yu: “Let’s go then.”
Just as Jiang Yu was about to leave, Jiang Wenyu suddenly stepped in front of him, provocatively bumping Jiang Yu’s shoulder: “In such a hurry? Well, a lowly child of a mistress, you can only play with fools. Who else would want to get involved with such bad luck?”
Jiang Yu had heard such words countless times since his mother “sold” him to the Jiang family. At first, he would retaliate out of anger, but he had gradually become numb.
He was indeed the child of a mistress, and he couldn’t refute that even if he was angry.
Chi Abei recognized him now. Few people at school dared to talk to Jiang Yu, except for his two half-brothers who would stop him in the restroom. Jiang Wen Shi usually ignored Jiang Yu, so the one with such a foul mouth must be Jiang Wenyu.
Chi Abei couldn’t help but tsk twice in his heart… No wonder Jiang Yu would later break his legs and throw him abroad to fend for himself. This guy’s mouth is so nasty, he doesn’t even leave himself a way out.
Jiang Wenyu wanted to insult Jiang Yu further when he was suddenly splashed with cold water.
Chi Abei turned the water tap on full blast, holding the spout. He didn’t get the angle right the first time, and Jiang Yu was also sprayed, but Jiang Yu had his back to him. Jiang Wenyu wasn’t so lucky; he was sprayed directly in the face.
“Damn!” Jiang Wenyu yelled at Chi Abei: “Fool, are you trying to die?!”
Chi Abei blinked innocently: “Fool? Who are you calling a fool?”
Jiang Wenyu wiped the water off his face: “You, fool!”
Chi Abei smiled: “Oh.”
Jiang Yu: “…”
Seeing that Jiang Wenyu hadn’t reacted yet, even Jiang Yu was speechless. Who’s actually the fool here?
When Jiang Wenyu realized he’d been called a fool, Chi Abei had been happy for a long time. Jiang Wenyu: “Damn it, you tricked me?”
Seeing Jiang Wenyu about to hit him, Jiang Yu was about to stop him when Chi Abei “swoosh”-ed under Jiang Wenyu’s arm, directly rushing out of the restroom. Then, he yelled—
“Help! Someone’s beating me!”
The people passing by were startled by Chi Abei’s sudden appearance, thinking someone unlucky had been dragged into the restroom for a beating. Seeing who it was, several boys were stunned. They thought, “Which idiot is so crazy, daring to bully the fool at school? Did he forget about Zhou Mingming’s incident two days ago?”
