UNCONTROLLED STARLIGHT CHAPTER 12

Chapter 12: YC Live Celebration Clarification

In the apartment.

Zhou Yili had just woken up in a good mood. His home attire was casual: a loose, sleeveless black T-shirt and large shorts, with a few strands of unruly blue hair sticking up. He was about to go out.

Suddenly, he stopped.

What was Shen Jixing supposed to talk to him about today?

…A reasonable explanation, right?

He released his grip on the doorknob, Zhou Yili lifted his shirt with one hand, revealing his strong, well-built upper body.

In a good mood, he hummed a little tune and walked to the walk-in closet.

Half an hour later—

An elegant and luxurious young master appeared, a black silk shirt flowing in the dim light, his sleeves casually rolled up to his sexy elbows, a Patek Philippe platinum blue starry sky watch on his wrist.

He seemed to radiate an aura of brilliance.

He gracefully strode towards the guest bedroom, arrogantly kicking the door, “Okay, how are you going to explain this?”

No answer.

Zhou Yili’s arrogant expression faltered slightly, he frowned and waited for a moment, then directly reached out to push open the door.

“…”

He lightly touched the tip of his tongue to his teeth, and hummed indifferently, “Perfect, the person’s gone again.”

Zhou Yili went downstairs, confirming that there was no sign of the “little bird” in the apartment.

He couldn’t help but laugh at himself.

“Good,” he muttered. “So you’re treating my place as a hotel, huh?”

The YC live celebration was long and tedious.

Most people present were there because of the Shen Jixing exposé, but they were forced to watch two hours of a new product launch.

The reporters, carrying their heavy cameras, deeply experienced what it meant to—

Earn hard money, eat shit.

“Brother Shen, are you really not going to contact the Herbert couple?” Xiong Xiong still asked worriedly.

Even his simple mind knew that Fang Siqian certainly wouldn’t be kindly helping him clear his name.

The Herbert couple must have been deceived!

Shen Jixing was closing his eyes to rest; hearing this, he calmly said, “I don’t have their contact information.”

Xiong Xiong: “?”

Pei Ming: “???”

He pointed to Fang Siqian on the stage outside the car window, “That kid probably found two scammers, right?”

Shen Jixing found it funny for some reason, “Not likely. I do have some connection with them…”

But he didn’t seem to want to say more, and Pei Ming wisely didn’t press further.

In the end, they would find out soon enough.

Finally, the new product launch presentation ended.

YC had successfully leveraged this event and its smug expression caused Pei Ming to sneer.

“What good is leveraging? Don’t they know whether anyone will buy their products?”

This brand had been rejected by them before, and unexpectedly, it held a grudge, frequently secretly hindering them.

Pei Ming was too lazy to play games with them.

The microphone was handed to Fang Siqian, his smile gentle: “At the end of the YC high-end jewelry brand’s two-year anniversary celebration, I would like to take up a little of your time.”

Here it comes, finally.

The reporters immediately lifted their cameras again—

“I believe you’ve all heard some rumors,” Fang Siqian’s expression was gentle, polite and apologetic, “I know that using public resources like this is not good, but I have always considered Mr. Shen, the actor, my mentor, and if I have the chance to do something for him, I’m happy to do so.”

His words were measured, perfectly reinforcing his warm man image.

But the reporters present were thinking: “…”

We want to kill you.

Everyone in the industry knew his intentions; leveraging Shen Jixing’s fame to promote new products for two hours, the beneficiary was self-evident.

On the live stream comments:

“Brother is so kind and gentle, I’m crying!”

“Brother actually still considers Shen Jixing his mentor. Heaven knows how long he was scolded by top-tier star fans; Brother, you’re so kind it’s heartbreaking…”

“Fang Fang is just so good; everyone else is avoiding this, but he’s willing to stand up; Star fans really owe him an apology.”

“Lol, does the top-tier star even have fans anymore?”

“…………”

Fang Siqian scanned the live stream screen, a barely visible smile at the corner of his lips.

“Next, let’s invite—the Herbert couple.”

Pei Ming instantly sat up straight.

Shen Jixing finally opened his eyes, calmly looking out the window—

It was a loving and romantic old couple. Mr. Herbert didn’t forget to support his wife as they walked onto the stage; both were elegantly dressed, simple yet dignified.

Their refined aura was indeed three-tenths similar to Mr. Shen, the actor.

However, they couldn’t possibly be his biological parents.

Because the Herbert couple were typical silver-haired, grey-eyed French people.

“Is this a joke?”

“Finding foreigners to clarify? Has Mr. Shen, the actor, gone crazy?”

“If they dare say Shen Jixing is their son, I’ll laugh for a whole year. What kind of freak of nature is this? Two French people giving birth to a Chinese person?”

Hey, they really dared to say it.

Mr. Herbert handed the microphone to his wife. Mrs. Herbert adjusted her elegant vintage hat and spoke in fluent, elderly English: “Nova is our child.”

There was an uproar in the audience.

Question marks flooded the live stream.

Mrs. Herbert didn’t understand Chinese, but she understood question marks.

So she slowly and gently explained: “Nova is an Asian youth praised as the ‘Eastern Star’ in our country. He has a beautiful Chinese name, Shen Jixing.”

Mrs. Herbert’s grey eyes were cloudy but gentle; she was old, but her face was full of sincerity.

Even the mocking comments decreased for a moment.

He has a beautiful Chinese name, Shen Jixing.

She said this sentence in Chinese. For some reason, it had a clumsy sincerity to it; Pei Ming subconsciously looked at Shen Jixing.

He slightly lowered his eyes, his profile as thin as ice and snow, his expression unreadable.

“Why is Mr. Shen, the actor, your child?” A male reporter in the audience looked at a certain person on stage and raised his microphone to ask in English.

His tone was somewhat teasing and playful.

“Excuse me, you probably couldn’t have given birth to a child like Mr. Shen, the actor, right?”

A wave of laughter swept through the audience.

Mrs. Herbert, however, treated it like children playing around, maintaining a gentle and benevolent expression.

She softly said, “Nova is our adopted child.”

This time, she switched to French.

The male reporter didn’t understand French and was suddenly stunned, looking at the man in the white suit on stage.

Fang Siqian kindly smiled and translated, “Ah, an adopted child?”

His surprise was evident, causing everyone to pause, including the Herbert couple.

This child…didn’t know?

Her eyebrows furrowed slightly, sensing a bad feeling.

Then she heard Fang Siqian continue to ask with a smile: “Then why didn’t you continue to adopt him? Did Mr. Shen, the actor, do something?”

Mrs. Herbert stumbled slightly.

Her old, cloudy grey eyes showed sadness; she looked at the young Chinese man in disbelief.

Even with her gentle and kind personality, she knew she had been used by this young man.

What…did he want to do?

Wasn’t he Nova’s friend?

At that moment, the microphone in her hand was gently taken away.

Old Mr. Herbert faced all the reporters, his wrinkled face still showing traces of past glory. His old, grey eyes were heavy but firm as he said: “Nova is the child we adopted twenty-one years ago; he was only six years old at the time, a well-behaved and pretty child.”

“Unfortunately…”

Fang Siqian narrowed his eyes slightly, looking at Old Mr. Herbert.

Everyone held their breath.

“Because of our circumstances, we couldn’t continue to care for and raise him.”

“So we painfully sent him back to his homeland.”

There seemed to be a hint of tears in Old Mr. Herbert’s grey eyes; he gently put his arm around his wife’s shoulder, “But in our hearts, he will always be our child.”

“We will, like all warm families in this world, be his eternal support and haven.”
