Chapter 72: Abandonment
“Let me tell you, Xu Rong, we were just playing around! Don’t get yourself too worked up! I’m bored with you now, I don’t want you anymore. If you’re smart, you’ll get as far away as possible and stop bothering me, understand?”
Zhang Shi said, his face dark, turning to return to the private room; he still had to apologize to the young master.
Zhang Shi’s words were like a bolt from the blue, striking Xu Rong dumb. She stood there, forgetting why she had come to find him.
Fortunately, Xu Rong’s mother rushed forward, grabbing Zhang Shi’s clothes, her face filled with anxiety and pleading.
She cried to Zhang Shi, “Zhang Shao, please help our Xiaorong! Although she wasn’t with you for long, there was some connection! Now she’s been sued and is going to jail. If you won’t help, she’ll truly have nowhere to turn! Please have mercy and save my daughter!”
“Don’t call me Zhang Shao here!” Zhang Shi lowered his voice, warning cautiously.
Zhang Shi was already in a terrible mood because Xu Rong had interrupted the young master, and now Xu Rong’s mother was clinging to him, making him even more irritated.
He forcefully broke free from her grasp, glaring fiercely at the mother and daughter, the gloom in his eyes deepening. Xu Rong had gotten him into big trouble and was now seeking him out.
He recalled the day of the trial, when his lawyer had returned, looking grave, and told him that Gu Wanrong’s lawyer was Luo Qingquan.
Years ago, Luo Qingquan had successfully sued Kexing Real Estate, a leading domestic real estate company, but had been forced out of the legal profession. Now, he seemed to have found a powerful backer, allowing him to return to the industry, with no one able to stop him.
It was clear how powerful Gu Wanrong’s background was. Immediately, Zhang Shi deleted all contact information with Xu Rong, completely severing ties with her.
Today, he had finally managed to persuade the young master to join them, to improve their relationship. After the young master arrived, he had subtly inquired about Gu Wanrong.
Combining this with what he learned from his mother, that the young master from the Jiujiang City’s main family had extra purposes in J City, it was likely for Gu Wanrong.
Thinking of this, Zhang Shi regretted it deeply, wishing he could turn back time. Because of a small Xu Rong, he had needlessly provoked Gu Wanrong.
At this moment, Zhang Shi seemed to have forgotten his attempt to hook up with Gu Wanrong at the start of school.
“Not bothering you, Gu Wanrong, is already being kind,” Zhang Shi coldly snorted, a hint of ruthlessness in his eyes, “Gu Wanrong is someone I, Zhang Shi, can’t afford to offend. You, Xu Rong, just wait to go to jail.”
Having said that, Zhang Shi angrily brushed aside Xu Rong’s mother’s attempt to stop him and turned to leave without looking back.
Unable to get Zhang Shi’s help, Xu Rong’s mother could only helplessly lead the distraught Xu Rong away from the Sihai Club.
They hailed a taxi and headed back to the hotel.
In the car, Xu Rong finally recovered from Zhang Shi’s ruthless rejection, but deeper despair followed.
Would she really have to go to jail?
Upon arriving at the hotel, Xu Rong stood silently, listening to her mother recount what had happened.
“I told you to kick this mother and daughter out of our Xu family! You wouldn’t do it because Xu Rong looks good. Now look, she’s provoked someone we can’t afford to offend!”
Before Xu Haichao could speak, the elderly woman started complaining impatiently, her sharp and harsh voice continuing.
“Our perfectly good Xu family will not only lose face because of this money-losing daughter who’s about to go to jail, but we might even face ruin! Son, my precious son, and my poor grandson, haven’t officially returned to the Xu family, haven’t even been entered into our family’s genealogy, and they’re already being implicated by this mother and daughter!”
The elderly woman’s ruthless and harsh words pierced everyone’s hearts, making everyone’s faces turn ugly.
Xu Rong, who had been silent and expressionless, suddenly raised her head, her gaze fixed on Xu Haichao. She stared intently into her father’s eyes, filled with disbelief and anger.
Xu Rong asked in a trembling voice, “Dad, Mom never had a younger brother; you cheated!”
Faced with Xu Rong’s question, Xu Haichao’s expression didn’t change, remaining as impassive as an iceberg.
“This doesn’t concern you.”
“Since that lawyer Luo Qingquan is so powerful, with the Xu family’s capabilities, we can’t find a better lawyer than him to help you with the appeal. Therefore, you have to find a way to solve this yourself.”
Xu Haichao’s words clearly showed his complete abandonment of Xu Rong, treating her as a stranger.
The elderly woman continued to wail, a suffocating atmosphere permeating the room.
After a brief silence, Xu Haichao continued, “If you’re really sentenced to prison, you’ll no longer be my daughter. You and your mother should leave the Xu family.”
These words were like a sharp knife, piercing Xu Rong’s heart.
Xu Rong looked at the ruthless Xu Haichao in despair, choking back tears, “Dad, didn’t you always say you loved me the most? Didn’t you always tell me that I had to marry into a prominent family to bring honor to our Xu family? In middle school and high school, I did as you said, you said I couldn’t have a stain on my record, and you always cleared it up for me. Why have you changed?”
Xu Haichao didn’t reply, sitting silently on the sofa.
“Good riddance! The hen that doesn’t lay eggs and this money-losing daughter should have given way to my grandson! If it weren’t for your father thinking you looked good and saying you could marry into a wealthy family, you two would have been kicked out of the Xu family long ago!”
It was the elderly woman who, after hearing the father and daughter’s conversation, was elated, seemingly eager to get rid of the mother and daughter she had been annoyed with for years.
Xu Rong looked around at her cold father, her gloating grandmother, and her quietly sobbing mother; despair enveloped her.
No!
I can’t be abandoned by my father, I can’t leave the Xu family, I can’t go to jail!
I’ll go to Gu Wanrong; I’ll beg her in person!
Thinking this, Gu Wanrong seemed to be Xu Rong’s last life raft; she had to hold on tight.
Xu Rong and her mother didn’t want to be kicked out of the Xu family, so they could only go to Gu Wanrong, begging her to let Xu Rong go.
In the disciplinary office, Gu Wanrong was summoned by a teacher.
Gu Wanrong, accompanied by Tong Shenba, arrived at the disciplinary office. Xu Rong and her mother, and Jiang Yanya and her mother, were already there.
“Gu, they insist on seeing you. They’ve been crying and begging outside the office for days. The teachers tried to persuade them but couldn’t; there was nothing we could do but call you.”
The teacher in the disciplinary office said to Gu Wanrong with a strained expression. He knew that this female student had donated 1 billion to Jin Hua University.
“Gu Wanrong, you’re so rich and powerful, just let me go. I apologize!”
Xu Rong maintained her arrogant attitude, even her plea was self-righteous.
Realizing her mistake, she took a step forward, wanting to grab Gu Wanrong’s hand, but Tong Shenba stopped her.
Jiang Yanya’s mother pointed at Xu Rong, “Miss Gu, my daughter Jiang Yanya was coerced by Xu Rong; she didn’t want to harm you.” She pulled Jiang Yanya and pleaded, “Please be merciful and let her go.”
“Hurry up, kneel down and beg her for forgiveness!” Jiang Yanya’s mother pushed Jiang Yanya. “Think about your brother. What will happen to him if his sister is in jail?”
