Chapter 100: Critical Illness Notification
Jiang Su nodded: “It’s me.”
After receiving Jiang Su’s answer, the probing look in her eyes changed into a relieved smile: “Jiang Su, I know you. I’m Qing Yan’s mother, Duan Zhixi.”
Jiang Su had already recognized her as Huo Qing Yan’s mother, but after receiving confirmation from her personally, he was still inevitably shocked.
It seemed that the rumors all these years about Huo Qing Yan’s mother being abroad accompanying the elder Huo with his illness were false; she had been controlled by Huo Zhen Heng to threaten Huo Qing Yan.
All these years⦠what exactly had happened in the Huo family!
The several bodyguards guarding Duan Zhixi quickly exchanged a few words; Jiang Su only vaguely heard something like “Hurry and leave.”
Jiang Su blocked their path, his expression calm, his tone firm: “You can leave, but she stays.”
The lead bodyguard spoke: “Our Madam has a mental illness. We’re taking her back to the hospital now. Please, Seventh Young Master Jiang, don’t make things difficult for us.”
The words sounded polite, but the tone and demeanor were not friendly.
If Jiang Su insisted, they would probably resort to force.
Jiang Su slowly rolled up his shirt sleeves, speaking casually and indifferently: “I merely wish to speak with Aunt Duan for a few more words. It’s you who are making things difficult for me.”
āThen Seventh Young Master Jiang, donāt blame us for being impolite!ā
With that, several bodyguards charged at Jiang Su.
There were six in total; two held Duan Zhixi back, while the other four fought Jiang Su. They all knew the Jiang family backgroundāthe Jiang family members all practiced martial arts from a young ageāso they didn’t dare underestimate him.
After engaging in combat, Jiang Su discovered they were deliberately avoiding vital points.
It seemed they were still somewhat wary of his identity.
āJiang Su!ā
Hearing a familiar voice, Jiang Su turned to see Huo Qing Yan running towards him.
Jiang Su shouted to Huo Qing Yan from afar: āAunt Duan is over there!ā
Jiang Su pointed towards the direction where Duan Zhixi was.
As he turned his head, he saw Duan Zhixi break free from the two bodyguards and quickly run towards the opposite side of the road.
This momentary distraction slowed Jiang Su’s reaction by half a beat; he didn’t dodge the oncoming fist.
His chest took a hard blow, causing him to groan in pain.
āMom!ā
Huo Qing Yan’s terrified shout almost coincided with the sound of the impact.
Bangā
When Jiang Su turned his head, he saw Duan Zhixi fall to the ground, the offending black car speeding away from the scene.
The men fighting Jiang Su also froze, their faces filled with panic.
When they came to apprehend Duan Zhixi, they were instructed to bring her back unharmed.
Jiang Su pressed on the spot where he’d been hit and ran towards Huo Qing Yan.
Huo Qing Yan knelt beside Duan Zhixi; a large pool of blood seeped from under her. She looked at Huo Qing Yan, a smile playing on her lips, her mouth opening as if to speak.
But as she opened her mouth, blood gushed out, choking her throat, and only muffled sounds, choked by blood, escaped her lips.
Jiang Su averted his gaze, took out his phone, and called for an ambulance.
After making the call, he crouched beside Huo Qing Yan: “I’ve called an ambulance.”
Huo Qing Yan turned his head, his eyes red-rimmed, his gaze filled with panic and helplessness, on the verge of collapse.
After a long moment, he called out Jiang Su’s name.
“Jiang Su⦔
His voice was extremely hoarse, as if it was difficult for him to speak, so he only used a breathy whisper.
Jiang Su had never seen Huo Qing Yan so vulnerable.
Family bonds are unshakeable and immensely powerful.
They can make a person strong and confident, but they can also easily destroy a person.
This point, perhaps no one understands better than Huo Qing Yan.
“Don’t be afraid,” Jiang Su squatted beside Huo Qing Yan. “Talk to Aunt Duan. The ambulance will be here soon.”
Huo Qing Yan nodded, like a child being soothed, unusually docile.
Jiang Su stood up and turned to see a bodyguard making a phone call. He went over, snatched the phone, and threw it away.
The bodyguard tried to retaliate, but was kicked.
“Are we, the Jiang family, too low-profile? Every Tom, Dick, and Harry dares to attack our family members.”
Jiang Su looked up, surprised: “Second Sister?”
Besides Jiang Ying, Jiang Li Chuan and Zhou Fu arrived with a group of people, looking like they were about to start a brawl.
Zhou Fu quickly walked towards Huo Qing Yan.
Jiang Su glanced towards Huo Qing Yan, his expression changing slightly: “Was it a car accident?” The offending vehicle had already fled, which explained Jiang Ying’s question.
Jiang Su nodded.
Jiang Ying pursed her lips and said nothing more.
Although she didn’t like Huo Qing Yan, she wouldn’t stoop to kicking him while he was down.
ā¦
Duan Zhixi was rushed into the emergency room. Before the surgery began, the doctor gave Huo Qing Yan a critical illness notification.
The emergency room door closed. Huo Qing Yan clutched the critical illness notification, leaning against the wall, standing motionless like a statue, his gaze fixed on the emergency room door.
Jiang Li Chuan pointed at Huo Qing Yan and whispered: “Is he alright?”
“Are you blind? You have eyes but can’t see? Does that look like he’s alright?” Jiang Ying angrily patted Jiang Li Chuan’s head.
Jiang Li Chuan rubbed his head, looking puzzled: “I think he looks pretty normal⦔
Jiang Ying felt her younger brother was hopelessly stupid.
She turned to Jiang Su: “Are you going to stay here with Huo Qing Yan?”
Since Jiang Su and Huo Qing Yan’s divorce, she had observed them. She knew Jiang Su had truly given up on Huo Qing Yan.
Their feelings had been worn away, but the years of acquaintance remained.
Moreover, Huo Qing Yan looked quite pitiful right now. Even she felt somewhat moved, let alone Jiang Su.
Jiang Su also glanced at Huo Qing Yan: “I’ll leave later.”
Jiang Ying gave an understanding smile: “Okay.”
Jiang Ying intended to take Jiang Li Chuan away with her.
Jiang Li Chuan didn’t want to go. Jiang Ying pulled him along reluctantly: “Why is Little Seven staying to accompany him? Is Little Seven a saint? When did our family’s motto become ‘return good for evil’? Shouldn’t it be ‘an eye for an eye’⦔
Jiang Ying was annoyed: “Can you shut up!”
Jiang Li Chuan only shut up for two seconds before starting again: “It’s mainly because I’m worried Huo Qing Yan will think Little Seven still has feelings for him⦔
Jiang Ying sneered: “He won’t.”
“Why?” In Jiang Li Chuan’s mind, Huo Qing Yan was a shameless and insensitive jerk who was capable of anything.
Jiang Ying looked enigmatic: “Only those who don’t get involved emotionally can remain undefeated.”
“You mean Huo Qing Yan?” Jiang Li Chuan checked Jiang Ying’s forehead: “Second Sister, are you really alright? What are you even talking about?”
Jiang Ying said softly: “Huo Qing Yan probably still doesn’t know what happened after he left the hot spring resort that night before the New Year, does he?”
“I don’t care if he knows or not.” Speaking of this, Jiang Li Chuan was still furious.
Jiang Ying smiled and said nothing more.
