Chapter 25: I’m Only Three Years Old
Bai Xuci had been in high spirits, but after hearing the refusal.
He instantly wilted.
Why didn’t he need it? Everyone wants pretty clothes.
He silently tugged at his sleeve.
Not very happy.
Shen Yuanzhi seemed to sense the shift in atmosphere, hesitated for a moment, and changed the subject:
“It’s getting late, I won’t disturb you any longer, lest I interrupt your lunch.”
He stood up from his chair, even bowing slightly, as if paying respects.
The maid behind him looked utterly incredulous…
Hearing that the man was leaving, Bai Xuci looked up.
“On the day of the wedding, please help us.” His tone was sincere.
After saying this, he was about to leave.
“Wait!” A crisp voice called out.
Fan Yue frowned slightly, wondering what the little demon was up to again.
“Young master, is there something else?” Shen Yuanzhi stopped, turning to ask.
His eyes kept glancing to the side, fearing that the other would say something…
Strangely, when Shen Yuanzhi arrived, he didn’t feel any other emotions towards the guests, only gratitude.
But after seeing them, he inexplicably felt a subtle fear.
Especially the man in black robes.
Bai Xuci hadn’t been listening attentively since entering, only curious about one thing:
“When is your wedding?”
They needed some preparation time, although he wasn’t sure why the Lord was joining the festivities, but this was his first time acting as a bodyguard.
Maybe he could even get a big sword!
How cool would that be!
Fan Yue glanced this way, saying nothing.
Shen Yuanzhi explained, “The Lishan incident has caused panic among the people. Originally, we planned to solve it as soon as possible, but due to the delay in finding wedding guards, it has been postponed for a long time.”
His tone was worried, truly seeming heartfelt.
But Bai Xuci felt strange. Why did they have to wait for “guards”?
Couldn’t they just go?
“Now that our esteemed guests are here, the wedding date is naturally brought forward. It should be three days from now.” He finally stated the specific time.
“During this time, please rest well at the manor.” He bowed again.
He seemed somewhat elegant.
Bai Xuci looked at him twice, recalling the scene of the county magistrate falling last time.
How could “brainwashing” even change someone’s demeanor…
“Oh, okay.” He replied seriously.
Seeing the crisis averted, Shen Yuanzhi finally left.
The room fell silent.
Bai Xuci thought carefully. The wedding was three days later, meaning he could play for three days?
He instantly perked up.
This was his first time down the mountain; he absolutely had to take a good look around.
Didn’t that county magistrate mention… a clothing shop?
Fan Yue silently swirled his teacup, patiently waiting.
Sure enough—
“Lord, can I go out and play!” His voice was excited.
He had somehow run over from the chair, his eyes bright.
On the bustling midday street, vendors called out their wares, creating a lively atmosphere.
Bai Xuci looked left and right, finding the stalls endlessly fascinating.
An old man approached, carrying a straw-bound cylinder with strings of bright red candied haws.
The syrup shimmered under the sunlight.
Bai Xuci’s gaze was involuntarily drawn, his eyes wide.
Looking quite pitiful.
Seeing that he hadn’t followed, Fan Yue looked back.
He found the little demon almost following the vendor…
“Young master, do you want to buy candied haws?” The old man wiped the sweat from his brow, asking kindly.
He had planned to go to the front, as there was a private school nearby, and the town’s children would soon be dismissed, he could definitely sell a lot.
His eyes appraised the richly dressed young master.
He was somewhat surprised.
He was so big, yet he also wanted to eat candied haws?
Bai Xuci wanted to buy some, but he didn’t have any money.
He stammered, unable to speak…
Seeing this reaction, the old man figured he wouldn’t be able to sell anything.
So he turned to leave.
But just as he was about to leave, he glanced casually.
An extremely aggrieved expression, with a hint of self-reproach, bowing his head to leave.
The old man felt a pang in his heart, feeling like a villain.
“You!”
Bai Xuci was feeling down because he had only focused on playing and forgotten that he had no money.
He really wanted to buy something…
Just as he was walking away with his head down, he heard a “scolding.”
He turned around nervously, looking innocent.
He hadn’t done anything!
Seeing this expression, the old man felt even more uncomfortable, directly plucking a candied haw from behind.
He shoved it into Bai Xuci’s hand.
“Don’t look at me like that, as if I bullied you. It’s not worth much, take one.”
Then he left, muttering to himself.
“He’s dressed so well, why don’t his family give him any money?”
“Consider it a free sample…”
He gradually walked away.
Bai Xuci looked at his back, then at the candied haw in his hand.
The syrup was glittering, and the hawthorn looked fresh.
The old man was so kind!
Sobbing, he prepared to bite into it—
“Mmm.”
Sweet and sour, so delicious.
He even wanted to do a little spin.
But his wrist was grabbed. Looking up, he saw a pair of gloomy eyes.
“You—”
Before he could finish, Fan Yue watched as the little demon cautiously leaned in and, from the hand he had just grabbed… stole another round candied haw.
His cheeks puffed out, his eyes fixed on him.
“…”
He could only wait for him to finish.
Fan Yue looked down at the little demon, still filled with incomprehension.
His cultivation was almost non-existent, yet he remained oblivious?
Was he only satisfied with transforming?
But just as he was thinking this, a head crept closer.
Opening his mouth to snatch another—
Fan Yue frowned, directly pulling his wrist up, causing Bai Xuci to stumble forward due to inertia.
Grasping his clothes, he barely maintained his balance.
“What’s wrong?” His voice was bewildered, his eyes blinking, before settling on the unfinished candied haw string.
Mmm, he still wanted to eat.
Fan Yue noticed his gaze, not knowing what to say.
He took the candied haws aside.
He glanced down.
Sure enough, he saw a pair of eager rabbit eyes.
“Where did you get this?” He asked.
Bai Xuci honestly replied: “The old man gave it to me.”
His eyes stared upwards, with sugar residue on his mouth.
He really wanted to eat it. He had only eaten carrots on the mountain, and even at Lin’s house, it was just normal meals.
There were no snacks.
He hadn’t eaten candied haws much before…
Besides, the old man had given it to him!
The more he thought about it, the angrier he got.
He tiptoed to reach for it, but the other was too tall, dodging with a side step.
“…”
An adult should maintain composure.
He took a deep breath, exhaled, don’t get angry.
But just then, the candied haws were offered.
“Eat.”
Bai Xuci was instantly happy, taking another one, happily following behind Fan Yue.
“Why did he give it to you?” A question came from the front.
Bai Xuci was engrossed in eating the candied haws, not listening attentively to the question.
Inner OS: This one is so sour, but it’s delicious too!
“A candied haw can trick you away?” Trying again, his tone heavier.
Bai Xuci had just finished one, licking the sugar residue from his mouth, biting into another.
Because he had finished the top ones, he was now eating the string like “skewers”.
It looked quite delicious.
At that moment, a woman with a child walked by, immediately drawn in.
Staring intently.
Bai Xuci noticed, so, in front of the child, he stuffed the remaining three into his mouth at once.
Sure enough, the child immediately burst into tears.
Fan Yue: “…”
The woman on the street softly coaxed her child, not knowing why he was crying.
Until the child pointed to the side—
Bai Xuci’s heart skipped a beat.
Damn it, he has backup!
Before he could run, he felt his collar tugged, and then, with lightning speed, he was “moved” to Fan Yue’s side.
Blocking the view.
The young woman turned to look, only to see a young master walking forward without looking sideways, nothing unusual.
“You’re such a troublemaker!” He softly scolded.
Then she left.
Once she was gone, a fluffy head poked out.
Wanting to see if the child had left.
“Stand still.” A soft reminder.
Bai Xuci obediently straightened up, his eyes a little guilty.
“How old are you?” He asked.
Bai Xuci didn’t pick up on the subtle “sarcasm”, genuinely thinking he was asking his age.
He thought carefully, then replied:
“Lord, are you asking about my rabbit age?”
His tone was quite serious.
He stopped, closing his eyes.
What kind of word was that?
Bai Xuci didn’t notice the other’s unusual reaction, but actually counted his age on his fingers.
In his past life, he was in his twenties, so he couldn’t add more.
Fan Yue’s eyes changed, his brows slightly furrowed…
If it was rabbit age, he seriously thought back to his life on Lishan, then, with a solemn face.
“Lord, I’m only three years old.”
“…”
A tavern—
Bai Xuci looked at the large dishes of meat and fish in front of him, though tempted, still looked worried.
“Brother.” It was crowded, so he temporarily changed his address, “Do you have money?”
As he spoke, the waiter came with the food.
And heard it.
Fan Yue: “…”
He casually threw several silver pieces to the waiter, resolving the awkwardness.
He glanced to the side, Bai Xuci looking at him eagerly.
Somewhat apologetic.
“I didn’t expect anyone to come over.” His voice was like a mosquito, tapping his fingers.
Bai Xuci was truly bewildered; as soon as he said that, he and the waiter looked at each other in astonishment.
Making him want to hide under the table.
“Why did you think I didn’t have money?” His eyebrows rose, finding it quite amusing.
Hearing this, Bai Xuci wanted to answer immediately, but this time he learned his lesson, carefully looking around.
Making sure no one was passing by.
Fan Yue: “…”
Truly, after interacting with humans for a while, he even imitated a “thief” perfectly.
“Brother, did you conjure your money? I can’t.” He leaned closer, looking inquisitive.
“Can you teach me?” He blinked, earnestly pleading.
Fan Yue looked down at the little face close to him, a smile playing on his lips.
“Want to learn?” His tone was flat, not intending to explain that the money he gave was real.
The other’s eyes lit up, even a few strands of fur showing on his head.
Fan Yue slightly frowned, pressing them back down.
What was wrong, did his ears pop up when he got excited?
Just then, a commotion erupted in the hall, everyone whispering.
Bai Xuci looked back curiously, discovering a group of people in white Taoist robes, and quite a few of them.
“???”
He turned back, noticing everyone glancing that way.
“What’s so interesting about that?” He mumbled, finding his own “business” more important.
Looking up, he continued to wait for an answer:
“So how do you conjure it?”
Would it be like the immortals in TV dramas, pinching their hands to create gold ingots?
Fan Yue didn’t look that way at all, his eyelids didn’t even twitch, only staring at the little demon in front of him.
“Aren’t you curious?” He asked leisurely.
Bai Xuci was confused, glancing over again, then asking back:
“I’m curious about what they’re doing? I don’t know them.”
A reason that was irrefutable.
Fan Yue tapped the table with his finger, seeming to doubt the reliability of the statement.
So he said: “Those are people from the Qingyun Sect.”
The little head froze for a moment, then quickly turned away.
“…”
He knew it.
In the end, Bai Xuci didn’t get to take a good look, because he was forcefully “pulled” back.
He didn’t touch his food, feeling slightly awkward.
“You are from Lishan—”
“Yes, I am.” Like a small garlic bulb, only nodding in agreement.
He seemed to realize that his behavior was like a “traitor”.
But since the other had mentioned “Qingyun Sect”, he couldn’t be uncurious.
He just wanted to sneak a peek.
Just one glance.
He seriously defended himself, feeling more and more that there was nothing wrong.
“There’s nothing to see, they’re all in mourning clothes, and their clothes aren’t very good.” His eyes drifted, but his tone was righteous and serious.
A chuckle…
Bai Xuci found it strange. Even after he said that, the other was still laughing?
Should he really go and fight with those people to show his loyalty?
He was under a spiritual oath!
He lowered his head and tugged at his clothes, feeling somewhat sad.
But—
His head suddenly lifted.
He noticed something was wrong.
Wasn’t it that the slightest violation of the spiritual oath would lead to backlash? Why was he fine after acting up for so long?
Could it be…
Fan Yue paused in his tea-drinking, unusually expectant.
Could it be that he had already fallen in love with Lishan to the bone?
Become an instinct?
“…”
