CHAPTER 1

Chapter 1: He’s a Madman

【That summer when I met him, a tree called karma was planted in my chest.】

The summer in Beicheng was extremely unbearable. The sun was scorching, and the air was stuffy and humid, like standing in a greenhouse; the air you breathed was filled with sweltering heat…

“Chen Shao, you say Li Qi from the Li family is never at school, and the principal doesn’t care. We can’t even leave school, why is that fair?”

“Yeah, yeah, why is that fair!”

“Could it be that his Li family is bigger than your Chen family, Shao?”

At Beicheng University, Chen Jiamu and three of his little lackeys skipped class and hid under a large banyan tree. The complaints of his lackeys filled his ears. Chen Jiamu leaned lazily against the tree trunk, chewing gum slowly.

Among a group of boys with multicolored hair, Chen Jiamu’s black hair stood out. His fair skin and exquisitely sculpted features were like a masterpiece from God. His starry eyes glanced disdainfully, the black mole at the corner of his eye swaying with his movements, quite cute.

A gust of wind blew, and the stray strands of hair on his forehead cast a shadow on his brow bone in the scattered sunlight. Chen Jiamu squinted slightly, his pupils gradually locking onto the figure slowly walking towards them.

His pink lips slowly stopped chewing, his tongue pressing against the gum. He frowned unhappily and growled at the still-complaining group, “Stop your fucking whining, isn’t Li Qi coming over?”

“Just call him over and ask him,”

As soon as Chen Jiamu spoke, the others immediately fell silent, turning their heads to look at the boy in a black T-shirt, whose skin was so white it seemed to glow in the sunlight.

Unlike their neat and clean crew cuts, the boy’s hair reached his neck, his bangs covering his brow bone, messily obscuring his slender eyes.

He wore thick glasses on his high, straight nose, his pale lips pressed tightly together, his expression seeming somewhat irritable.

“Hey, Li Qi, come here! Chen Shao has something to ask you!”

In Beicheng, among the wealthy circles, hearing Chen Jiamu’s name would cause a shiver down anyone’s spine. For no other reason than he was notoriously bad. At ten, he burned someone’s car; at twelve, he almost crippled someone at school; at fifteen, he was street racing and hit someone, paralyzing them from the waist down, leaving them confined to a bed for the rest of their life…

And all of these incidents, as the only male offspring of the Chen family, were settled with money by the elders, who never said a word against him.

In Chen Jiamu’s world, there was nothing that money couldn’t solve. After all, the Chen family’s money was enough for him to spend for several lifetimes; he could do whatever he wanted!

However, this carefree life came to an abrupt end when he turned eighteen. His mother suddenly forbade him from causing trouble and used connections and money to force him into the most promising university in Beicheng.

Was Chen Jiamu cut out for studying?

He was more suited to causing trouble!

He felt suffocated sitting in a classroom for even a second, and yet he wasn’t allowed to leave school. No matter how much he protested, the old principal wouldn’t budge.

Helpless, Chen Jiamu could only wander around school with a group of his little brothers…

Hearing someone call him, Li Qi looked up and coldly glanced at the group, somehow making eye contact with Chen Jiamu.

The boy’s eyes were full of arrogance, the black mole at the corner of his eye raised with his movements, his mouth moving up and down as he chewed his gum.

“Neurotic…”

Li Qi coldly spat out two words, not wanting to pay any attention to them, and turned to walk towards the restroom.

He had just come back from the hospital and suddenly felt the urge to urinate. Being ignored and then insulted, the little brothers were even more agitated than Chen Jiamu. “What the fuck!”

“Did you hear that! He called Chen Shao neurotic!”

“So arrogant! He actually dared to insult you!”

The several of them spoke one after another, their voices getting louder and louder, as if they had suffered a great injustice.

“Shut up, he was insulting you, what does it have to do with me!”

Chen Jiamu resisted the urge to roll his eyes, spat his gum onto the hair of one of his little brothers, stretched his shoulders, and strode towards Li Qi.

The little brothers watched Chen Jiamu’s actions, too angry to speak, and could only grit their teeth and pull the gum off with a tissue…

“Why can you leave school?”

Chen Jiamu put his hands in his pockets, frowning and squinting his eyes to block Li Qi’s path.

Chen Jiamu was arrogant because he had the capital to be arrogant, but Li Qi didn’t buy into it. He raised his hand and pushed him away, “Good dogs don’t block the way.”

These five simple words came out of his mouth, and Chen Jiamu couldn’t believe his ears.

He stood there dumbfounded, eyes wide, watching Li Qi walk into the restroom…

“He insulted me?”

“He actually dared to insult me!”

No one had ever dared to insult him before. This was the first time Chen Jiamu had been insulted, and his cheeks visibly flushed with anger.

Clenching his fists, Chen Jiamu rushed into the restroom, just as Li Qi finished using the facilities.

Calmly washing his hands at the sink, he paid no attention to Chen Jiamu, who was rushing towards him angrily.

The little brothers were also very perceptive and surrounded Li Qi, trapping him at the sink.

“Dare to insult Chen Shao, you’re as good as dead!”

“That’s right, that’s right!”

Hearing the word “death”, Li Qi’s eyes darkened, his dripping fingers trembled. His breathing became rapid…

“I’d like to see how you’re going to kill me?”

Li Qi was too calm, so calm that the others felt a strange unease. Usually, when others were surrounded, they would be scared stiff, trembling and begging for mercy.

“Hold him down for me!”

“I think your mouth is too dirty, I’ll wash it out for you later!”

At Chen Jiamu’s command, several people swarmed forward, grabbing Li Qi’s arms and pressing him against the sink.

Chen Jiamu caught a glimpse of Li Qi struggling and shaking his arms, and inwardly sneered, Now you’re scared?

Too late!

He bent down to grab the mop water nearby and was about to throw it on Li Qi, but before he could raise his hand, he saw Li Qi, like a wild horse running loose, roar, throwing off the little brothers who were pressing down on him.

The moment their eyes met, Chen Jiamu saw a trace of bloodthirsty madness in his eyes!

Huh?

Before Chen Jiamu could react, Li Qi lunged at him, roaring, “Don’t you want to die! Then let’s all die together!”

The boy, wearing a black T-shirt, ran, the wind blowing his loose hair, revealing his smooth forehead and those long-term gloomy eyes.

His glasses, which had been knocked off, lay shattered in the corner…

What’s going on?

Chen Jiamu instinctively raised his hand to defend himself, taking a solid punch to the chest, and his little brothers quickly surrounded him, scrambling to pin him to the ground.

In the struggle, a utility knife fell to the ground. Li Qi stared at the knife on the ground, one thought occupying his entire brain.

Since we’re all going to die, let’s die together!

Li Qi was tall and strong; three little brothers couldn’t hold him down. Li Qi pushed the little brothers off him, grabbed the utility knife and lunged at Chen Jiamu in the corner!

The situation was out of control. Nobody expected that what was supposed to be a simple questioning would escalate to this point…

The gleaming utility knife plunged directly into Chen Jiamu’s abdomen, and red blood slowly stained his white T-shirt…

He was stabbed!

Chen Jiamu looked incredulously at Li Qi, whose face was full of madness. He saw Li Qi pull the knife out and stab him several more times. Blood spattered everywhere, both of them were covered in blood, a terrifying sight…

Warm liquid splattered on his face. Li Qi gave a strange smile and pointed the knife at himself in Chen Jiamu’s shocked eyes.

In the same spot, he stabbed himself mercilessly!

Before darkness swallowed his consciousness, Chen Jiamu understood why Li Qi could leave school…

Because, he was a madman…
