The Early-Deceased Mother of the Male Lead CHAPTER 10

Chapter 10

“Sht… Holy sht!”

Jin Youqian was looking through the windshield at the main road getting closer, when a ghostly face suddenly dropped down, making him scream instantly.

He had briefly breathed a sigh of relief earlier because he hadn’t seen Yu Zhen during their escape, but he didn’t realize that what he couldn’t see was even more terrifying.

Just thinking that Yu Zhen might have been there the whole time, lying on top of his head, with only a thin car roof separating them…

Jin Youqian’s hairs stood on end, each strand standing straight as if in military formation. He almost wished he had more hair to show how terrified he was.

Driver Wen Ge was even more shocked.

He was sitting in the front, the hanging ghost face almost in front of his eyes. If it weren’t for the windshield, it would have been right in his face.

Wen Ge’s heart almost jumped out of his chest; he almost couldn’t catch his breath.

The black hair spread across the windshield, like a messy net, almost blocking his entire view.

Wen Ge instinctively slammed on the brakes.

The next second, there was a “bang,” and the car seemed to hit something.

In a few seconds, Jin Youqian was thrown forward by the sudden braking and then pushed back after the collision.

Thank goodness I had my seatbelt on…

This inappropriate thought popped into his head before being quickly replaced by the burning sensation on his chest.

Yu Zhen was outside!

Realizing this, Jin Youqian’s face instantly turned white again.

“Wen Ge, a-are you alright?” He didn’t forget Wen Ge in the front and asked, trembling.

“I’m fine… Ouch!” Wen Ge wasn’t really fine; his forehead was cut, and the blood flowed down, slightly obstructing his vision.

Besides that, he had several minor and major abrasions.

The windshield was cracked like a spiderweb, making it impossible to see clearly, but they could barely tell that the ghost face that had been hanging down was gone.

He tried to start the car, but it didn’t respond.

The car was broken, which was clearly bad news.

But there was also some not-so-good good news—the car wasn’t severely damaged; it hadn’t been deformed enough to trap them inside.

Wen Ge told Jin Youqian what had happened.

The latter considered for a second and made his choice, “…Let’s get out.”

Jin Youqian had no choice; if the car was still working, he wouldn’t even touch the door handle!

It took some effort for the two of them to get out of the car.

During this time, Jin Youqian hadn’t forgotten Yu Zhen outside. He couldn’t understand why she hadn’t attacked them while they were in the car accident.

Reality wasn’t like movies or novels, where monsters would wait for the protagonist to regain consciousness and fight back before attacking.

He was on edge the entire time.

As soon as they got out of the car, he caught a glimpse of a white shadow. Jin Youqian subconsciously turned his head, and the white ghost was already in front of him.

Black hair, white dress, paper-white skin, blood-red lips.

Her mouth was split almost to the roots of her ears.

It’s over…

Just as this thought crossed Jin Youqian’s mind, the white ghost, about a meter away, let out a piercing scream, her floating body seemed to hit something and was flung far away.

Huh…?

Jin Youqian froze, realizing belatedly that the amulet he was wearing had probably saved his life.

The reason the white ghost hadn’t attacked them before was probably this… No, she hadn’t not attacked; she had just failed her sneak attack.

Master!!!

If the situation wasn’t so dire, Jin Youqian would have knelt down and kowtowed to the master from afar.

He suddenly wasn’t as afraid anymore and turned to Wen Ge, “Wen Ge, don’t be afraid, I have the amulet from the master. Stay close to me; it shouldn’t hurt us. I’ll definitely get you out!”

“…Okay.” Wen Ge had already started thinking of his last words, although they were not going to be delivered… Unexpectedly, the situation turned around in a second; he couldn’t react for two seconds before dryly responding.

Jin Youqian straightened his back and walked forward, saying, “The master predicted that I might encounter this situation. When she gave me the amulet, she said I might encounter some special situations, she told me not to be afraid, not to be misled by the visual, that it will guide me to the true path…”

These words were meant to comfort himself and Wen Ge.

Wen Ge was comforted; he followed closely behind Jin Youqian.

The white ghost tried several times to attack them, but was flung away each time.

However, Wen Ge noticed that the white ghost was getting closer each time she attacked.

Initially, it was about a meter away; now, it was only half that distance.

If it got any closer, Wen Ge would have to jump onto Jin Youqian’s back…

“Young Master Jin…” He had just begun to warn when he saw pairs of twisted and terrifying hands emerging from the scorched earth ahead, their fingers waving randomly, trying to grab something.

Jin Youqian’s unstoppable steps abruptly stopped.

“No, it’s an illusion!” The master had said the amulet would guide him, and he didn’t feel any danger, proving that the scene was only scary in appearance.

“…But it’s really scary…” Jin Youqian muttered softly, closing his eyes, gritting his teeth, “Whatever, Wen Ge, follow me, we keep going!”

Sure enough, after closing his eyes, when he stepped down, it felt like walking through grass; there were no ghostly hands scratching.

Wen Ge couldn’t close his eyes like him because he had to pay attention to the distance and could only grit his teeth and walk through the pile of ghost hands. The feeling was exhilarating.

Jin Youqian, guided by the amulet on his chest, led Wen Ge through the seemingly endless scorched earth.

Along the way, they encountered mountains and rivers; the path was rugged and dangerous, filled with strange phenomena, but they were all illusions.

Jin Youqian didn’t know how long he had walked, several times attempting to call for help, but there was no signal, even emergency calls didn’t work.

He couldn’t even check the time; the digital clock on the screen hadn’t moved.

“I feel like I can’t go on…” Jin Youqian’s voice was weak.

As soon as he finished speaking, he noticed a faint light in the distance.

It was truly faint, like a small candle, with a tiny flame flickering in the wind, about to extinguish.

It was dim, but it gave a little security to the traveler in the dark.

The amulet on his chest guided Jin Youqian towards it, as if a voice told him that he would be safe there.

The white ghost followed behind them.

Initially, she attacked recklessly; after several lessons, she became a little more cautious, following neither too closely nor too distantly, as if waiting for something.

However, after the faint light appeared, her face twisted, screaming as she attacked Jin Youqian again.

“Again?” Jin Youqian, protected by the amulet, grew bolder. As he walked forward, he didn’t forget to taunt, “Addicted to bouncing, huh?!”

There’s a saying, “Too much joy brings sorrow.”

As soon as he finished taunting, he suddenly felt the amulet on his chest become incredibly hot.

Although the master hadn’t mentioned this, Jin Youqian could feel it—the amulet could withstand only one more attack from the white ghost.

Fortunately, the faint light was close at hand.

“Wen Ge, towards the light, run!” Jin Youqian shouted, running forward with all his might.

The white ghost attacked frantically.

Almost the moment they stepped into the light, the amulet on Jin Youqian’s chest turned to ash.

The white ghost, outside the light, seemed unwilling, but ultimately didn’t come in.

We… we’re saved…

Both thought this simultaneously, then lay on their backs, gasping for breath.

Jin Youqian used his remaining strength to look at his phone. He saw that the signal, which had disappeared, had returned in the upper right corner of the screen.

“Master, help!”

Jin Youqian, like a zombie, jumped up from the ground, opened WeChat, and sent a message calling for help.

————————

Just past midnight.

Luo Wenshu had fallen asleep when she suddenly sensed that the amulet she had sold had shattered. She opened her eyes instantly.

“Something happened so soon…”

Luo Wenshu’s current cultivation was far inferior to before, and her perception of fate was vague.

When she met Jin Youqian yesterday afternoon, she could only tell that he would face a calamity in the next few days, a deadly danger from a supernatural being, but she didn’t know the specific time or situation.

She suddenly saw a flash of light from the corner of her eye. Luo Wenshu turned her head and saw a WeChat message on Luo Xingyu’s phone on the bedside table.

It was from Jin Youqian, calling for help.

Luo Wenshu covered her lips, yawned, then reached for the phone, unlocked it, and replied.

Starry Little Island: This will require additional payment, the amount will be determined based on the situation. If it’s okay, send me the address.

The other side replied almost instantly with a shared location.

Starry Little Island: Wait, I’m coming.

After replying, Luo Wenshu put down her phone and reached for the seal around Luo Xingyu’s neck.

Jin Youqian was too far away; even if she took a taxi, she wouldn’t make it in time.

A helicopter might work, but she didn’t have one.

She had to take a shortcut.

Luo Wenshu tried to be as quiet as possible, but Luo Xingyu, who hadn’t been sleeping soundly, woke up at the slightest sound.

“Mom…” he mumbled.

“I’m going out. Lend me your seal.” she said.

“…Okay.” Luo Xingyu nodded.

The room was dimly lit; he squinted, unable to see Luo Wenshu’s movements clearly. Only a faint green light appeared, with wind blowing from the window, and the white curtains dancing.

Soon, the outline of a door appeared out of thin air in the room, vaguely visible.

Luo Wenshu was about to enter when she felt her clothes being pulled.

She turned to look at Luo Xingyu, “I’m going to save someone, the one who bought the amulet yesterday afternoon. He’s far away, and I can’t make it in time, so I have to go through the Netherworld…”

He still held her clothes and didn’t let go.

Seeing this, Luo Wenshu thought for two seconds and asked, “Do you want to come with me?”

After the events on the rooftop of the neighboring building in the evening, Luo Xingyu had a vague understanding that following Luo Wenshu might mean encountering something like the scary little girl in the pink dress again.

But he still nodded, “Yes… I’ll go with you.”

Because he didn’t want to stay home alone.

Although this mother wasn’t his original mother, she at least looked the same.

“Let’s go.” Luo Wenshu took his hand and walked into the Ghost Gate.
