[ABO] After Accidental Marking, I Became Everyone’s Darling chapter 113

Chapter 113

Xiao Xiao stared at the screen.

He finally understood why “Ma Cha Chong” was so eager to reply to him. He suspected the user was a customer service representative for that very shop.

Even so, he clicked on the link out of curiosity.

Ma Cha Chong was right. The clothes in the shop were genuinely cute, with a wide variety of styles. The reviews were all positive, and he even saw some of the buyer photos that Ma Cha Chong had sent him earlier. Most of them were beautiful betas, though there were some omegas too.

After browsing for a while, Xiao Xiao decided to buy a set to try. But when he clicked to purchase, he was faced with a dizzying number of options. How was he supposed to know which style Gu Qian would like?

He hesitated, unable to make a decision.

In the end, he closed the link, put down his phone, and pulled the covers over his head to sleep.

The next day, Xiao Xiao still had no idea how to pursue Gu Qian.

But he received a new assignment: at 8 PM, he was to accompany Gu Qian to a reception. He would be going as his personal assistant. Although he hadn’t officially been promoted, Gu Qian’s excuse was that it was part of his “internship.”

That afternoon, Xiao Xiao went back to his dorm and pulled out the two suits An Le had given him. He held them in his hands for a long time, stroking the fabric before finally putting one on. It was the first time An Le had spent money to buy him something so nice—each suit cost over three thousand yuan. He hadn’t been able to bring himself to wear them. But Gu Qian had specifically told him to dress well for the reception, so he had no choice but to take out the clothes he’d been saving for a special occasion.

Before leaving, he also grabbed the bottle of pheromone neutralizer he had bought. There would surely be a lot of alphas and omegas at the reception, and he didn’t want to pick up any stray scents and have his colleagues avoid him again.

At 7 PM, Xiao Xiao, dressed in his handsome new suit, met Gu Qian downstairs at the company.

The moment Gu Qian saw him, however, he seemed to become displeased. The gentle smile on his face vanished, replaced by a dark scowl.

“Boss, what’s wrong?” Xiao Xiao asked.

The more time he spent with Gu Qian, the stranger he found his personality. He would be inexplicably happy one moment and inexplicably angry the next. Nothing would have happened, but Gu Qian’s mood would swing dramatically. Just like now—he had been perfectly happy a moment ago, and suddenly he was furious.

Gu Qian didn’t answer. He looked down at Xiao Xiao’s suit and reached out to touch the white material.

Xiao Xiao immediately smiled. “What do you think? Does the suit not meet your standards?”

Gu Qian remained silent, but the hand on Xiao Xiao’s shoulder slowly slid down and clamped onto his waist.

Xiao Xiao’s smile vanished. He quickly dodged away from the hand. “Boss, what are you doing?”

“This suit,” Gu Qian’s voice was low. “Where did you get it?”

Hearing him ask about the suit, Xiao Xiao felt a surge of pride. An Le had given it to him, after all. “A friend gave it to me,” he said with a grin.

“A friend?”

Gu Qian knew Xiao Xiao only had one friend: Lu Heng’s omega. But why would that omega suddenly give Xiao Xiao a suit? Gu Qian glanced at the bag in his car. He had also prepared a suit for Xiao Xiao, but it seemed it wouldn’t be needed now.

“That’s right,” Xiao Xiao said. He checked his phone. “Aren’t we leaving yet, Boss? It’s a forty-minute drive to the reception. We’ll be late if we don’t go now.”

Gu Qian said nothing more, simply getting into the car with a grim expression. “Let’s go.”

There was no driver; Gu Qian was driving himself. Xiao Xiao didn’t dare sit in the back, so he had to take the passenger seat. But as he opened the door, he saw a bag on the seat.

“Boss, what’s this…?” he asked, pausing.

“It’s nothing.” Gu Qian snatched the bag away before Xiao Xiao could get a glimpse of what was inside.

Xiao Xiao didn’t think much of it. The bag wasn’t his, so it didn’t matter if he saw it or not. Once Gu Qian moved it, he quickly got in and sat down.

“Don’t interact with other alphas,” Gu Qian said suddenly, breaking the silence.

The abrupt command left Xiao Xiao confused. “Why?”

He didn’t understand. The world was full of people. Even though they were divided into three second genders, alphas were everywhere. It would be difficult to avoid them completely.

Gu Qian’s dark mood had vanished as quickly as it had appeared. He was smiling again, just like his usual self. “I don’t like it.”

“???”

Xiao Xiao still didn’t understand what he meant. If they were already a couple, you could say it was jealousy, or that he was being too possessive and domineering. But they weren’t together. What was Gu Qian doing? Trying to control his life?

“I told you,” Gu Qian said again. “I’m not a good person.”

“Boss… are you… are you under too much stress from work?” Xiao Xiao asked tentatively. He was starting to feel that something was genuinely wrong with Gu Qian—not just a little off, but truly wrong.

After he asked the question, Gu Qian fell silent again. The rest of the drive was even more oppressive than before.

Thankfully, it wasn’t long before they arrived. Xiao Xiao breathed a sigh of relief and followed Gu Qian upstairs, where a waiter immediately came to greet them. Seeing the way the waiter chattered on, trying to engage Gu Qian, Xiao Xiao started to think maybe Gu Qian was fine after all. He was smiling gently now, speaking to the waiter with patience and courtesy.

But they weren’t here to have fun tonight; they were here for work. There was an important client at the reception, but this client was indecisive, holding off on signing a contract, wavering between Gu Qian’s company and another. That’s why Gu Qian had rushed over with Xiao Xiao as soon as he heard the client would be attending. They were here to steal business.

Xiao Xiao hadn’t done this kind of work in his two years at the company, so he didn’t know what to do. While Gu Qian went to work his magic, he stood to the side, ready to pour tea or water. Listening to Gu Qian’s smooth and intelligent conversation, Xiao Xiao decided his earlier thoughts must have been a hallucination; there was nothing wrong with Gu Qian’s mind.

Since there was nothing for him to do, he stood waiting for instructions, turning his back slightly to secretly play on his phone.

Just then, he received a message from An Le.

An Le: Xiao Xiao, my husband and I both think Gu Chen is the one.

Reading the message, Xiao Xiao’s mind went blank.

The one…

The reason he had helped An Le escape from his family in the first place was because An Le’s father had sold him to a man. That man was apparently powerful and influential and had never shown his face. He had only used his pheromones to try and force An Le to adapt to him, planning to collect him as soon as he came of age. An Le had refused. That’s why they had run away.

They never found out who the man was. But now, An Le was telling him it was Gu Chen.

Gu Chen was indeed powerful and influential. He was also Lu Heng’s maternal uncle. An Le had even run into him a few times at the hospital recently when he was having his surgery. But that wasn’t the most important part. The most important part was that Gu Chen was Gu Qian’s father.

In that instant, Xiao Xiao’s world tilted on its axis. He couldn’t understand how things had become so twisted.

Worried about An Le, he rushed to the bathroom with his phone and secretly called him. An Le picked up right away.

“Is it really him?” Xiao Xiao asked urgently. “I had a bad feeling when we were at the hospital, but I never thought it would be like this.”

“It is,” An Le’s voice was grim. “But we have no proof.”

“It’s okay, we can find proof slowly. You just have to protect yourself.” There wasn’t much more Xiao Xiao could say to An Le now. Lu Heng was taking care of everything. He knew Lu Heng must have already told An Le all of this, but he couldn’t help but repeat the warnings.

“I know,” An Le said. “You… you be careful too. My husband says Boss Gu isn’t a good person either. Xiao Xiao, can you please stop liking him?”

Not a good person?

Xiao Xiao fell silent. After a few seconds, he agreed. “Yeah, I know. Don’t worry about me. Nothing will happen to a beta like me. You just focus on protecting yourself. As for Gu Qian, I’ll think about it. He’s hot and cold with me… it’s honestly a bit much for me to handle.”

As he said it, he knew it was a lie. Even though it was hard to handle, he didn’t want to let go. But An Le was clearly worried about him, and he didn’t want to add to his friend’s stress, so he agreed. He knew he wouldn’t be able to do it.

“Okay, I’m still at work right now,” Xiao Xiao said. “I have to go. We can talk more when we have time to meet up.”

“Okay,” An Le replied.

After hanging up, Xiao Xiao stood by the door and took a deep breath. Gu Qian isn’t a good person? Gu Qian himself had told him that several times. But he didn’t quite believe it. Gu Qian… he just didn’t seem like a bad person. Could it be that Lu Heng was just making things up to protect An Le from getting hurt?

He pursed his lips and turned to leave. He had to get back to Gu Qian’s side. What if he needed him to get a drink or something? If he wasn’t there, he would definitely be angry. And if he failed his “internship,” what if Gu Qian didn’t give him the promotion? Then he wouldn’t get his double salary.

The thought made him want to teleport back to Gu Qian’s side instantly.

But before he could even leave the bathroom, he bumped into someone.

“I’m sorry,” he said immediately. The impact made his shoulder throb, but out of professional habit, he apologized first without even looking up. He tried to walk away, but an arm shot out and grabbed him.

He looked up, annoyed. “What are you doing?”

The man holding him was an alpha, and from the looks of it, he’d had a lot to drink. He grinned. “You’re pretty good-looking!”

Xiao Xiao forced a smile. “Thanks. Now let go.”

In this world, only omegas were protected. They had separate bathrooms for both men and women. But betas had to share with alphas, and incidents of alphas harassing betas were common. The alpha seemed to think nothing of it, pulling Xiao Xiao towards a stall. “Let go? Why would I do that? If I let go, you won’t get to enjoy big brother’s services. Come on, big brother will take good care of you.”
