Chapter 163: The Love Rival Showdown
Hearing the commotion, An Jing looked over to the distance. The handsome man who had just walked in with the staff member looked somewhat familiar, but he couldn’t quite place him.
“Gu Fei, do you know that guy?” he asked, tilting his chin to gesture for Gu Fei to look back.
Gu Fei, who was currently on the phone with a subordinate, his face expressionless as he listened to a work report, merely glanced back casually. But then his gaze sharpened, locking onto the man.
The subordinate on the other end was still diligently reporting, but received no response. “Master Gu? Master Gu, are you still there?” he asked, confused.
“Something’s come up here. I’m hanging up.”
After ending the call, Gu Fei’s calm, cold gaze remained fixed on Wen Yan in the distance.
Coincidentally, Wen Yan also looked over. The moment their eyes met, his heart jumped. Isn’t that Gu Fei? What’s Gu Fei doing here?
For a split second, their gazes clashed.
An invisible scent of gunpowder seemed to permeate the air, and yet, it was as if nothing had happened. Gu Fei casually looked away, his expression somehow even darker than before.
An Jing watched with a sense of wonder. Master Gu’s mood changed faster than the weather. Like watching a play, he asked, “What was that about? You know him? Is he an enemy of yours?”
“Don’t know him,” Gu Fei said.
If he didn’t know him, why had he been staring at the guy for so long, and why had his face suddenly turned so grim? Before An Jing could figure it out, the handsome man started walking towards them.
Gu Fei seemed to notice as well. He made a snap decision, tossing the small blanket that clashed so severely with his image onto An Jing’s lap. He then lifted his chin slightly, adopting the noble, arrogant expression of a powerful boss.
He looked like someone you shouldn’t mess with.
An Jing was baffled. “…?”
What the hell?
Are you being polite, Dog Gu?!
Did you take the wrong medicine?!
Just then, Wen Yan arrived, a warm and proper smile on his handsome face. He greeted An Jing politely, “Teacher An, hello. I didn’t expect to see you here.”
An Jing looked at him in confusion for a couple of seconds before it dawned on him. No wonder he looked familiar; they had met before. “Wen Yan, right? You shot a magazine cover for me once.”
“Yes, I didn’t expect you to remember.”
“Of course, you did a great job.”
The two shook hands politely.
Then, Wen Yan greeted the silent Gu Fei.
“Master Gu, hello. I’ve heard so much about you.”
Gu Fei ignored the hand extended towards him, merely giving a cold nod.
Wen Yan didn’t mind. He casually withdrew his hand. Gu Fei was just as he remembered from his past life, unchanged, only looking a bit younger. The “stay away from me” aura emanated from his very bones.
This wasn’t their first meeting.
They had met once a few months ago at that Western restaurant. That encounter had been far from pleasant, and they had even clashed.
So, Gu Fei knew him and was hostile towards him.
An Jing felt that the current situation was very strange. Although Gu Fei was a man of few words, he wasn’t impolite. He had never seen him be so disrespectful to someone.
It seemed this Wen Yan… really had some history with him.
And it wasn’t a small one.
An Jing had to break the awkward silence. “Mr. Wen, what brings you here? For work?”
Wen Yan replied, “No, my family’s company is a sponsor for this drama. I was just passing by to take a look.”
“I see.”
Hearing this, Gu Fei shot him a lukewarm glance, his gaze passing through the crowd to land on An Qingyan, who was engrossed in his work.
Probably not just passing by, he thought, but with another purpose.
After hearing what the staff member said, Wu Weiguang frowned in confusion. Was today some special day? Why was there another one? Were they paying that much attention to their production?
“Okay, cut!”
“That’s a wrap for this scene. Everyone take a break.”
Wu Weiguang put down his megaphone and walked towards the three, forcing a friendly smile onto his face. “President Wen, you came without telling me. What a coincidence today…”
“Hey, did you see? Another handsome guy!”
“Isn’t that President Wen from Shengshi Group…”
“Hmm… Master Gu is still taller, more handsome, and has a stronger presence!”
Hearing these words, An Qingyan’s heart jumped. He nearly spat out the water he had just drunk. He followed everyone’s gaze and, sure enough, saw Wen Yan in the distance. The key was… Gu Fei was there too!
What was going on?!
Why was Wen Yan suddenly here?
Gu Fei probably didn’t remember him, right?
“What’s wrong? You look so flustered.” Lu Yuqi looked at An Qingyan suspiciously.
An Qingyan swallowed nervously. “It’s nothing.”
Did that look like nothing?
Lu Yuqi followed his gaze and became interested. If he remembered correctly, wasn’t that the photographer named Wen Yan?
During the promotional shoot for the talent show, he had seen An Qingyan have some sort of unpleasant incident with this person. They knew each other, and their relationship… was a bit strange.
Wen Yan was still talking to Wu Weiguang. “Director Wu, it’s so cold, and you all are working so hard. I bought some afternoon tea for everyone. It should be here by now.”
“Ah, thank you, President Wen. You’re too kind.”
A short while later, a few people came pushing carts of afternoon tea, with hot milk tea and dessert for everyone. The set instantly became lively.
“Thank you, President Wen!”
“President Wen is so kind and beautiful!!”
“You’re welcome, everyone, please help yourselves.” Wen Yan smiled at everyone, then picked up a cup of hot milk tea and a few boxes of dessert and walked towards An Qingyan.
Gu Fei silently watched Wen Yan’s every move. He was getting closer and closer to An Qingyan. He frowned slightly, his facial lines tightening, then he started walking over with long strides.
An Jing watched his friend’s retreating back in confusion. Tall and long-legged, wearing a black suit with a matching long coat, the hem of his coat fluttering with his steps, even his hair exuded the aura of a powerful boss. A cold aura seemed to radiate from him for several meters around.
The epitome of an overbearing CEO.
A sentence inexplicably popped into his head:
Could this be the aura of the rightful partner?
What was going on? Did this President Wen actually know their Yanyan? He seemed to smell gossip. So, Gu Fei’s face had suddenly turned so grim because…
Big Brother An was enjoying the drama.
An Qingyan was currently hiding in a corner reading his script, wanting to stay far away from the trouble. But the trouble came to him. He sighed helplessly in his heart.
“Yanyan, filming must be hard. Don’t you like milk tea? Here are some desserts too, all your favorites.” Wen Yan stood beside him, holding the food, a gentle smile on his face.
“I’ll put the straw in for you.”
An Qingyan kept his head down, focused on his script, and said nonchalantly, “No need, I don’t drink it.”
Wen Yan paused. He looked at the other’s delicate and well-behaved features and continued gently, “Then have some dessert? There are egg tarts here. I remember you used to like them a lot.”
“No need.” An Qingyan frowned almost imperceptibly and finally looked up at the man before him, his tone a mix of helplessness and distance. “I thought I made it clear last time. Wen Yan, don’t look for me anymore.”
It wouldn’t be good if others misunderstood, especially Gu Fei.
Seeing the young man’s cold and distant expression, a flicker of loss crossed Wen Yan’s eyes. He said softly, “Yanyan, I’m sorry. I know I shouldn’t be bothering you, but I can’t help it…”
An Qingyan’s eyes suddenly widened slightly. He saw a tall man walking towards them, exuding a terrifying aura. The man’s handsome, perfect face was now grim, as if he were about to clench his fist and punch Wen Yan.
Wen Yan, stop talking!!
Wen Yan sensed the young man’s unease. “Yanyan, what’s wrong…”
Just then, a grim, cold voice sounded in his ear. The other person spoke unhurriedly, “Since you know you shouldn’t be bothering him, then get lost.”
Wen Yan’s heart jumped. He turned his head and met a pair of calm eyes tinged with a coldness, looking down at him. He immediately stood up. “Mr. Gu, this is between me and Yanyan.”
“Is that so?”
Gu Fei stood his ground, beckoning to the young man opposite him. His tone softened slightly, but it carried an undeniable command, “Yanyan, come here.”
An Qingyan felt his scalp tingle.
This was a classic love rival showdown.
What if someone saw this?
Fortunately, this was a corner, and everyone was gathered on the other side eating. For now, no one had noticed the melodramatic soap opera unfolding here.
Wen Yan started, “Yanyan…”
An Qingyan had always listened to Gu Fei. Not to mention, the other seemed on the verge of losing his temper. He obediently walked to the man’s side, gently tugging at the corner of his clothes and whispering, “Fei ge, it’s nothing between him and me.”
Please don’t start a fight here!
No way!
Gu Fei took the young man’s hand, silently declaring his sovereignty, like a predator guarding its territory, domineering and powerful, not allowing anyone to intrude.
And An Qingyan just stood obediently by his side.
Seeing this scene, Wen Yan’s heart shattered.
Seeing how well-behaved the kid was, Gu Fei’s expression softened slightly. He put his arm around An Qingyan’s waist, leaned down slightly, and whispered affectionately in his ear, “Yanyan, tell Mr. Wen what our relationship is.”
An Qingyan’s body stiffened. He stiffly said to Wen Yan, “He’s my boyfriend.”
A slight upward curve appeared on Gu Fei’s lips. His eyes, however, held no trace of a smile as he looked at Wen Yan. His calm voice was tinged with a hint of provocation, “Did you hear that?”
Wen Yan pleaded, “Yanyan…”
