Chapter 11: A Father’s Advice
After the meal, Ye Sheng called Su Tang upstairs to the study alone. Ye Chiyu helped Su Tang up the stairs but stopped at the door, giving him a reassuring look.
Su Tang followed Ye Sheng into the study, feeling a wave of apprehension as he looked at the man’s tall, silent back.
His mind couldn’t help but conjure up scenes from TV dramas where the powerful patriarch of a wealthy family puts his new, powerless daughter-in-law in her place. His hands clenched, his palms sweating.
As an Alpha, Mr. Ye’s pheromone level and family background were far beyond what an Omega from an ordinary family like himself could ever match.
In everyone’s eyes, he and Mr. Ye were not a good match, certainly not a pair of equals.
Once inside, Ye Sheng pointed to the single sofa next to him, gesturing for Su Tang to sit. The noble, cool scent of his cedarwood pheromones made Su Tang even more restless.
During the meal, Ye Sheng had been discreetly observing the young Omega his son had brought home. He had already reviewed the background information Ye Chiyu had prepared on Su Tang and knew he was a pitiable but sensible child, just with an ordinary pheromone level and family background.
That didn’t really matter. The Ye family hadn’t built their fortune on strategic marriages and had never cared about social status when it came to their children’s partners. As long as the person had good character and their child liked them, that was enough.
Years in the business world had sharpened Ye Sheng’s judgment of character. Over the course of the meal, he could tell that Su Tang wasn’t some scheming person after the Ye family’s wealth. In fact, seeing the boy’s innocent and lovely demeanor, he began to worry that his own son might bully him.
Except when he was with his husband, Ye Sheng’s expression was almost always cold. His sharp gaze swept over Su Tang, making him feel as if he were sitting on pins and needles.
You and my son are not suitable for each other. The Ye family will not acknowledge your marriage. I advise you to leave my son on your own accord, or don’t blame me for being rude!
Su Tang had braced himself for such words, fully prepared to be scolded. But instead, Ye Sheng glanced at him, let out a soft chuckle, and took a sip of tea.
“You don’t have to be so afraid of me. I don’t bite,” Ye Sheng said calmly, choosing his words carefully, adopting a rare, gentle tone of an elder. “Seeing you so nervous… what, did you think I was going to break you and Ah Yu up?”
Su Tang didn’t dare say yes. He just shook his head and waved his hands frantically, muttering, “No, no, of course not.” But Ye Sheng’s words eased some of his tension, and he let out a small sigh of relief.
Isn’t this kid studying acting? How can he be so bad at lying? His expression and gestures are a dead giveaway.
Ye Sheng had now thoroughly figured out Su Tang’s easy-going nature, which made him feel even more at ease with his new son-in-law.
Ye Sheng’s expression turned serious. He cleared his throat and said, “I called you up here for a specific reason. I just have a few things to tell you. Just remember them.”
An elder was about to give instructions. Su Tang immediately sat up straight, placing his hands properly on his knees like a kindergartener listening to a teacher. His large, bright eyes looked earnestly at Ye Sheng. “Okay, please go ahead.”
So this is the type my son likes, Ye Sheng thought to himself. No wonder he wouldn’t even glance at the Omegas Fanxing and I introduced him to before. You’d never find such a pure, clean, and well-behaved child in our social circle.
“First, this is from Fanxing. He wanted me to tell you that since you and Ah Yu are now registered, a temporary mark is… ahem… not as good as a deep mark. He suggests you two could… speed things up a bit.”
The message was clear enough. His husband didn’t dare say it in front of their son, so he had Ye Sheng pass it on. And of course, Ye Sheng always did as his wife commanded.
“Ah? Uh… okay…”
Su Tang felt things were taking a strange turn, and a blush crept up his face.
“Second, although you’re married, whether you make it public is your own choice. Fanxing and I will respect your decision. You’re still young and studying acting. Personally, I would suggest not going public so early. It would be better for your career. What do you think?”
“Thank you for your advice. I’ll discuss it with Mr. Ye,” Su Tang replied, thinking to himself, I hadn’t even gotten that far. You’re so thoughtful.
“The wedding, the house, the honeymoon—that’s all up to you two to decide. Sometime soon, invite your sister over, and our two families can have a meal together.”
Su Tang nodded obediently. “Okay.”
“Lastly, this is from me personally,” Ye Sheng said, taking another sip of tea before speaking abruptly. “Your dad’s health isn’t good, and he can’t get overworked. From now on, you keep an eye on Ah Yu. Don’t let him just come back whenever he feels like it, making your dad run around preparing this and that.”
“The most important thing is for you two to live your own lives. Understand?”
Su Tang understood Ye Sheng’s meaning and agreed with a smile.
He never thought such an outstanding Alpha could be disliked by someone—and by his own father, no less. It was obvious he was just being jealous of his own son.
