Chapter 26 Haircut
Ji Nian looked at him, clearly in a bad mood.
Qin Xiao wanted to appease him, but he was afraid of making things worse.
So he chuckled twice, reached out and grabbed his own hair, “Look at me, my hair is long too, I can braid it too.”
“Heh.”
Ji Nian laughed.
But it was a laugh that was three parts cold, three parts sarcastic, and four parts indifferent.
Qin Xiao inwardly cursed, feeling he was doomed.
He always had good intuition, and this time was no different.
He watched as Ji Nian got up, took a mirror from the room, a comb, and two red hair ties from somewhere.
“Come on, let’s braid your hair?”
Ji Nian stood before him, looking down at him, with a hint of threat in his gaze.
Qin Xiao looked sideways at him. “I was just joking.”
“Mm, I take everything you say seriously.”
‘I take everything you say seriously.’
With these few words, Qin Xiao gritted his teeth and picked up the comb to braid his hair.
Qin Xiao was a typical sunny boy, his bright eyes clear and distinct, whether he smiled or not, his eyes seemed to hold starlight.
He had a good temper and was cheerful; sadness seemed never to appear on him.
Therefore, Ji Nian sometimes admired him, admired how he could live so freely in such a chaotic world.
“Xiao Xiao? What are you doing?”
Han Qing came out after washing the dishes and saw Qin Xiao braiding his hair, extremely puzzled. “Are you full and looking for trouble?”
“Braiding your hair?”
“Do you think it’s beautiful?”
Han Qing snatched the comb from his hand. “Or should I help you? Braid it into a sea urchin?”
“Forget it.”
The image was too beautiful to imagine.
After Han Qing went back into the room, she came out again with a pair of scissors. “Come on, your hair is long, I’ll give you a haircut.”
She had a cigarette in her mouth, a chair in her other hand; she tossed the chair into the corner with a swagger. She held the cigarette between her fingers, expertly took a puff, exhaling smoke, her eyes looking jaded, not like a good person.
Seeing that they didn’t come over, she called again, “Come here quickly.”
Qin Xiao and Ji Nian exchanged glances, both feeling a little apprehensive; this didn’t look like a hairdresser at all.
“Come quickly, Niannian. Grandma has cut hair before, my skills are pretty good.”
Han Qing gestured to Ji Nian with the cigarette in her mouth; she looked unreliable no matter how you looked at it.
But since she specifically called him out, it was a bit inappropriate not to go, so Ji Nian could only go over.
He sat down in the chair, Han Qing dropped the cigarette, and said in a good-natured tone, “What kind of haircut do you want? Longer or shorter?”
“Or we can thin it out a bit, make this part and this part shorter, okay?”
Hearing the rather professional words, Ji Nian gradually relaxed.
Han Qing took a sheet and wrapped it around Ji Nian’s neck, just like in a hair salon, completely covering his body to prevent stray hair from getting into his clothes.
Then, she sprayed water to make his hair smooth.
The series of actions made Ji Nian think that Han Qing must have experience.
Han Qing first combed Ji Nian’s hair neatly, and then started cutting with the scissors.
Regardless of whether the haircut was good or not, his head was already in Han Qing’s hands, it didn’t matter whether it was good-looking or not.
Qin Xiao was still sitting in his original position watching this, and asked Han Qing, “Grandma, when was the last time you cut hair?”
“The last time? It was for your grandpa.”
“Snip.”
With that sentence, a snip of the scissors fell, and Ji Nian suddenly felt uneasy.
If he remembered correctly, Qin Xiao had never met his grandfather, which meant that Grandma hadn’t cut hair for at least nineteen years!
“Grandpa? How many years ago was that? It must have been thirty years, right?”
Qin Xiao asked.
Thirty years!!
Upon hearing this, Ji Nian grabbed his pants nervously. She hadn’t cut hair for thirty years, could she really cut it?
“Not thirty years, it’s been thirty-eight years.”
Ji Nian’s face turned pale.
With an anxious heart, he listened to the snip, snip, snip of the scissors above his head. Finally, the haircut was finished.
Han Qing was very satisfied with her masterpiece, looking at Ji Nian and clicking her tongue. “Not bad, not bad, my skills haven’t deteriorated, they’re just as good as they were back then.”
“Come on, Niannian, take a look, if you don’t like anything, Grandma will change it for you?”
Han Qing gave him the mirror, Ji Nian didn’t have high hopes, but when he saw himself in the mirror, he actually looked quite handsome.
The length was just right, not too thick, not too thin, his brows and eyes were fully revealed, very neat.
Seeing the light in his eyes, Han Qing laughed. “Didn’t expect it, haha. Although Grandma hasn’t touched scissors for a long time, Grandma often sees those little stars in TV commercials, so following their hairstyles can’t go wrong.”
“Thank you, Grandma.”
Ji Nian removed the sheet from his neck, got up from the seat, and Han Qing brought him a basin of hot water. “What are you thanking me for? Don’t say thank you again, come on, wash your hair quickly, wash away the stray hairs.”
Next was Qin Xiao’s turn.
Qin Xiao said, “Grandma, can you cut a wolf cut? It’s shorter in front, and the back is long and layered, super handsome, the dividing line is from the ear…”
“I’ll try.”
Under Qin Xiao’s direction, Han Qing wielded the scissors and cut away, Qin Xiao asked Ji Nian, who had washed his hair, to hold the mirror for him, making it easier for Han Qing to see what needed to be done.
It turned out that Grandma was amazing, with a few snips, she really did cut a handsome wolf cut.
After washing his hair, Qin Xiao asked Ji Nian contentedly, “Brother, am I handsome?”
“Do I look like a star?”
“Let me tell you, I was once approached by a talent scout to sign a contract, but my parents said it was a scam, so it ruined my star career; I should have been a big star.”
“You?”
Before Ji Nian could speak, Han Qing cleaned up the stray hairs on the ground, unable to help but retort, “You’re dreaming!”
Qin Xiao: …
The next day, the weather was good, and Han Qing took them out to comfort the spirits of their relatives.
They left the house and went to an open area. Han Qing distributed the ingots and other things they had folded the previous day to Ji Nian and Qin Xiao.
Each of them chose a sheltered corner and knelt down there, lighting the ingots.
They had so many things they wanted to say to their parents, but as the flames flickered and turned the ingots to ashes, they suddenly didn’t know what to say.
Their hearts felt heavy and sore.
Ji Nian got up shortly afterwards, turning to look at Qin Xiao, who was kneeling on the ground. Whether Han Qing asked him to kneel or he chose to kneel himself, he stared at the flames in a daze.
When he stood up, Ji Nian clearly saw tears in his eyes.
He wiped them away, smiling, “The smoke and fire are too irritating to my eyes, Ji Nian, look, I’ve been smoked to tears.”
