Chapter 66
Lin Zheng stood at the entrance of the cinema, the crowd flowing past him.
He looked up at the cinema’s name hanging high above. This was the place.
Gu Lin had sent him the location, and he had followed it here.
When he got Gu Lin’s call, he had been puzzled. Why did Gu Lin suddenly want to see a movie? And even if he did, why pick a cinema so far from home? More importantly, how did a sick person like Gu Lin manage to get all the way out here?
As it turned out, right after Gu Lin’s call, Yu Huanyuan had called him. He said he had something to take care of and had to leave, but before he left, he found out that Gu Lin was heading to a place very close to his own destination, so he decided to give him a ride.
Lin Zheng figured it couldn’t be helped if Yu Huanyuan had important business to attend to. As long as he brought Gu Lin here to meet him, and Gu Lin was okay, that was all that mattered.
Ahem.
But let’s be clear, he didn’t come because he wanted to. It was because Gu Lin had pleaded with him in such an urgent tone that he had reluctantly agreed.
With that thought, Lin Zheng lifted his chin slightly and walked inside.
The first floor of the cinema was the ticketing lobby, and the theaters were on the second floor. As soon as he walked in, Lin Zheng spotted the most conspicuous person in the crowd.
Gu Lin was wearing a khaki-colored coat, his arms crossed as he leaned against the ticket counter, waiting for him.
He didn’t look too tired.
Lin Zheng instantly felt a great sense of relief.
Gu Lin was tall, his fashion sense as good as his physique, and his face was simply too eye-catching. You didn’t even have to get close; just a glance from a distance and your eyes would be drawn to him, unable to look away.
If it had been before, if Lin Zheng had seen such a handsome man in a public place like this, he would have been incredibly excited. Just a glance would have felt like pure bliss. But now, not only could he see that person in the crowd, he could also be noticed by him, and then, be watched by him.
And his feelings at this moment were many times happier than just bliss.
It felt as if he had a precious treasure all to himself.
Lin Zheng strode towards Gu Lin.
Gu Lin watched the person getting closer, his gaze slowly narrowing. When Lin Zheng stood before him, a faint smile touched his lips. “You’re late.”
Lin Zheng glanced at the time on his phone, looked up, and scoffed, “I’m only five minutes late, and we’re still on time for the movie. Besides, I ditched my friend to come here, and I had to drive for a long time. You can’t blame me.”
Gu Lin looked at his adorable expression and relented. “Yes, yes, I don’t blame you.”
Gu Lin said with interest, “Then in exchange, tell me what your friend is like.”
Lin Zheng was at a loss for words. Although he had made up this friend, he hadn’t thought about the details of his personality yet. So, he simply changed the subject. “Why didn’t you buy popcorn? You can’t watch a movie without popcorn. Come on, it’s almost time, let’s get some popcorn and go in.”
After saying that, Lin Zheng turned to go to the concession stand, but his arm was grabbed by the person leaning against the wall behind him. “I already bought it. We can just pick it up later. So for now, come back and let me have a good look at you.”
Gu Lin pulled Lin Zheng back, but saw that he had his head down. Seeing the blush on his ears, he teased, “You get shy just from me saying I want to look at you?”
Didn’t you see how people were looking at me after you said that? Lin Zheng thought.
To be honest, Lin Zheng was thin-skinned. He couldn’t handle being teased, nor could he handle being talked about.
Gu Lin attracted too much attention from others, and by extension, Lin Zheng also became an object of “admiration.”
It wasn’t a good idea to always stand here and attract so much attention.
Lin Zheng raised his face. “Didn’t you say we were going to watch a movie?” He grabbed Gu Lin’s hand. “Let’s go in first.” After speaking, he led Gu Lin inside. Halfway there, he remembered something, turned back to the concession stand to pick up the chocolate-flavored popcorn, stuffed the large bucket into Gu Lin’s hand, which was holding the movie tickets, took the two cups of Coke himself, and then continued to lead him inside.
The theater was pitch black.
Lin Zheng fumbled his way, using his phone screen for light, checking the seat numbers. He searched from the front to the middle, then from the middle to the back, before finally finding his and Gu Lin’s seats.
The back wasn’t a good place to watch a movie.
Lin Zheng shot a resentful look at Gu Lin.
Gu Lin smiled helplessly and explained, “I booked them last minute, and since it’s the premiere day for this movie, only the back seats were left.”
“You really know how to make do.” There were so many people, couldn’t we have just watched the next showing?
As if he could read Lin Zheng’s mind, Gu Lin said, “This is the last showing of the day.”
Lin Zheng: “…”
Although the back seats were a bit far from the big screen, it wasn’t impossible to watch. It was just a little less comfortable than the middle seats.
Whatever, as long as the movie is good.
After sitting down, Lin Zheng hugged the popcorn and started eating, his eyes glued to the screen.
The movie started.
Gu Lin had chosen a comedy, and Lin Zheng loved comedies. Life has so many troubles; you have to watch some comedies to lighten the mood. The movie was packed with jokes right from the beginning, and Lin Zheng laughed so hard his stomach hurt, along with everyone else.
After laughing, he grabbed another handful of popcorn and stuffed it into his mouth.
After a while, Lin Zheng noticed Gu Lin staring at him from the corner of his eye.
At first, he thought Gu Lin was just glancing at him while looking in his direction, but after a while, he realized that wasn’t the case.
Gu Lin seemed to be watching him the whole time.
Another funny scene appeared in the movie, and just as the whole theater erupted in laughter, Lin Zheng didn’t laugh. He turned his head, looked at the person next to him, leaned in a little, and whispered, “Is something wrong? Why do you keep looking at me?”
Gu Lin also leaned in a little and whispered, “Is this movie good?”
They started a whispered conversation.
“It’s good, and it’s really funny.”
“Then what do you think my purpose was for asking you out today?”
“To watch a movie? Isn’t that what you said?”
“Think carefully.”
“Think about what? What else would you do in a movie theater besides watch a movie?”
“Think again. What did I say before I said I wanted to watch a movie?”
Lin Zheng actually started to recall.
After a few seconds, his face turned a little red.
Gu Lin could tell Lin Zheng remembered, but he still pretended not to know. “Remembered?”
“I… let’s just watch the movie.”
Lin Zheng was about to sit back up straight, but his arm was held down by Gu Lin.
They looked at each other, maintaining their current posture.
Because they were so close, they could almost feel each other’s breath.
Lin Zheng’s heart was beating fast.
Gu Lin chuckled softly, then was the first to sit back up straight.
But the hand on Lin Zheng’s arm didn’t pull back.
On the contrary, that hand slid down Lin Zheng’s arm, leaving the fabric, his fingertips touching the skin on the back of Lin Zheng’s hand, sliding to the edge, and slightly closing, enveloping the hand that was a size smaller than his own.
“This is just the appetizer. I’ll get the rest from you after the movie.”
